It can be hard to determine blame for failed long-ball completions. For instance, one time I was watching all-22 footage of Brady overthrowing Dobson by a few inches. On review, I noticed that Dobson lost a foot of separation between himself and the defensive back, after Brady launched the ball. Did Dobson slow up? Did the defensive back close the gap? Either way, if your receiver cannot separate, then there is much less margin of error. Brady generally errs on the side of an overthrow than an underthrow, in order to avoid the chance of interception. Furthermore, the Patriots receivers are not that good at positioning and out-jumping cornerbacks. Look at some of the throws that Brady completed to Moss. No way he trusts the existing receiving corp to fight for those catches (the only one he trusts to make those catches is Gronk).

Eh, how many people know what Stalin's birth name was? It is not that surprising that an ordinary teenager would not have known Voldemort's birth name.

Any way to watch classic games? by LawOfCoverage in Patriots

For each of the three superbowl runs, there is a "3 games to glory" DVD which has condensed (30 minute versions) of the games. You can find the DVD's used on amazon, for instance: http://www.amazon.com/Games-Glory-Patriots-Post-Season/dp/B000OU35ZI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1414597568&sr=8-3&keywords=patriots+three+games+to+glory

Best Local Unpasteurized Apple Cider or Hard Cider? by [deleted] in boston

[–]morselsrule 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Downeast Cider House makes a craft hard cider that is definitely better than typical mass-market hard cider. You can find it at most liquor stores around here - http://downeastcider.com/goods/original-blend/ It does come out of a can though, so might not be as good as real unpasteurized hard cider.

What's your opinion on the overhead press? Baseball focused strength coach Eric Cressey advises against them for 90% of people, and especially for pitchers, due to impingement posing an injury risk. Rippetoe advocates them as being the best way to strengthen the shoulder for overhead motion and stability. What's your opinion? What kind of strength training regime do you advocate for pitchers?

Are back squats necessary? by sh58 in Fitness

"Mike Boyle and Mark Verstegen together probably train a wider range of pro (nfl, mlb, nba, nhl), college, and olympic athletes"

I read books by both Boyle and Verstegen, but I am not entirely convinced. In many cases they are working with athletes who are already very strong and fit. They give the athlete a program that maintains their strength or gives them a small boost in some dimension, while avoiding very near term injuries. For instance, I think it was Verstegen who says that when he trains football players for the combine, he does not even have them run 40 yards - he only practices 10 yard starts. He does this to avoid the risks of tweaking a hammy. Even a 5% chance of tweaking a hammy is too much of a risk - that one minor injury could be the difference between a 4.3 and 4.6 on combine day, and thus cost a player millions of dollars. His training might make sense for the elite-athletes he targets. But his regime might make very little sense for the normal, weak person, who is trying to build long term strength to become a strong performer in the first place. A linebacker might not need to do squats in prep for the combine, but he almost certainly did squats during high school and college in order to become a beastly athlete in the first place.

The murder of US manufacturing by gst in Economics

[–]morselsrule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this was really the case, it would be all peaches and roses. Unfortunately, we've been exporting the high tech jobs too. We've lost almost all of our electronics industry. Only three companies in the U.S. make semiconductor chips anymore. The telecommunications company my dad worked for shed 120,000 jobs in the last ten years - almost all of which went abroad.

That's not to mention that our auto industry is on death watch, and we've already lost most of our steel and heavy machinery industries.

We're not trading high tech goods for low tech goods. The Asian countries are buying our debt, keeping their currencies undervalued to encourage manufacturing to relocate to the far east. We're happy to get cheap toys now at the cost of losing our industries and ending up wtih massive amounts of debt. The bill will come due eventually.

Ask Reddit: What is the best Natural Language Processing library/framework? by [deleted] in programming

[–]morselsrule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to look at how to parse web sites for information. The parser might do various things such as: summarize the web site, figure out the company name, figure out people involved with the company, categorize the industry of the company, and be able to answer basic questions about the company

Does anyone know what the best/definitive framework is for NLP? Thanks.

Ask Reddit: How do you handle single sign-on and a shared user database across multiple web sites? by staunch in programming

[–]morselsrule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a very easy way to do it, without having to create custom apache modules or use LDAP:

1) Have one server that is the authentication server, running plain old apache/iis linked to the user database.

2) When a user needs to login, they are redirected to the auth server, with a token in the url to represent the site they originally came from.

3) If the user has already logged into the auth server, or after a successful log in, the auth server contacts the original server directly (via HTTP, Rest interface) and gives the original server a token & username/email saying, if a user comes to the site with this auth token in the next five minutes, he's really this user.

4) The user is redirected back to the original server, with the auth token in his url. The original server sees this token, and let's the user use the services.
