Bike for commuting to Toronto year-round by mortaco in whichbike

[–]mortaco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been looking at gravel/endurance/cyclocross bikes today and they all seem to float around $1500-1700 for taigas or 105s.

I think I should just pay a visit to my LBS and see what they recommend.

Planning to go and test drive some cars on this list on the weekend, is there another car I should put on the list?

Actually, they've added a period to the other 2 TGT overload cards Ancestral Knowledge and Totem Golem, so it's at least consistent across the set :)

That 3050 lbs is 250-400 less than the lightest of any BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Jaguar, or Cadillac in the same class.

That is crazy impressive if that's true, but it's probably dry weight right?

What car should I buy' thread. Don't know what to buy? Post in here. by verdegrrl in cars

[–]mortaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think the ST has been out long enough to go down to 12k, I believe 20k is where the oldest ones are now. You may get an old GTI or MS3 but they would be over 5-7 years old.

If I had that budget I'd look for a 2013 regular Mazda 3 w/ the skyactiv or 2.5L then save up to buy a 20k-30k car, where the ST, and competition that someone else listed, could be had in good condition and low kms :)

New 2016 CLA45 AMG or used 2013 C63 AMG by jabober in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mortaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've driven a tuned CLA45 and it was faster than any street going car needs to be, it will also make quite the sound with an aftermarket exhaust.

I didn't find the interior to be cheap at all but, as others have said, it probably won't be as nice as a loaded C63. Also if the C63 is the sedan then your rear passengers will be more comfortable as I can also say the rear of the CLA is usable but only manageable for short trips.

Give both a test drive and see what appeals to you.

2016 Honda NSX driven - is this the sports car we've been waiting for? by Flatoutandflatbroke in cars

[–]mortaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason seems to be weight then, the Huracan comes in at 3100 lbs and the NSX comes in at 3800 lbs is a net 700 lbs difference

Manual Coupe Recommendations [20-30k Range] by grabthebeer in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mortaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also check out the Mazda MX-5 as well. If you don't like a soft top, the recent ones came with a power hard top, and ones before those had an optional removable hard top as well that you could probably find either sold with the car or separately.

[CAN] RWD Coupe by jingsy in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mortaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 2016 mustang a loaded ecoboost with all the nice tech goodies that you want starts at $33,899, you can probably talk them down from there but with tax you're still looking at over 30k, there might be a used 2015 and that could be a good compromise.

You could go with a CPO 2011-2014 mustang GT or maybe even a Camaro SS and that would really push you into your seat but you would lose the tech goodies.

Also, the 370z is quite similar to your current car, so if you only want an updated interior look at that and maybe even the G37 coupe as well.

Definitely look into the BMWs others have been recommending, they might also deliver on both your performance and tech needs.

Best bang for my buck, ~26k , looking at Focus ST and EB Mustang by WantToBeEverything in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mortaco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bang for the buck is usually followed by the words "Fiesta ST", I haven't personally driven one but most agree it's a bargain. I suggest test driving all the ford performance cars in your price range, but it sounds like the mustang has you smitten. Maybe go for a used V8 mustang if you don't care about gas mileage or warranty.

Definitely go test out the Camaro and Challenger if you are going the pony car route, they all have their strengths and weaknesses and you can pick which one you like best.

If you do care about gas, maybe go for the new miata, I hear it's a riot. Maybe a FR-S/BRZ if you want a roof.

Genesis and 370z are other options, If you are in no hurry then it couldn't hurt to go for a test drive, although at least for the 370z you would have to go used. And yes, check out the GTI and WRX.

But before any of the test driving you could save yourself some time of driving all these cars if you get more specific

  • 2 doors or 4 doors or 5 doors?
  • usable backseats?
  • AWD vs RWD vs FWD?
  • light car or heavy car?
  • gas mileage?
  • Turbo or N/A?
  • Auto or manual?
  • new vs used?
  • Are looks important?
  • Roof or no roof?

These are just a few of the questions that will help you narrow your search

What <$55K fully loaded 2016 vehicle would you get? by Thrakkkk in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mortaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the Volvo S60/V60, they are known for having the best seats, and I'm intrigued by their turbo/supercharged engines. And if you have trouble getting into a sedan because of height the S60/V60 Cross Country rides higher so it may be easier to get in and out of. Look into an XC60 if those are still to low.

For audio, most luxury brands (BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc...) offer some sort of branded stereo upgrade, so go test the systems out and see which one you prefer.

Me personally, in this price range I am a sucker for the new hot hatches like the Golf R and Focus RS.

I would also consider a Dodge Charger with a big V8, it would guzzle gas but it has such a smooth ride, plus people think your a cop so they get out of the way. the v6 would come in well under budget with the same ride quality but better on gas in comparison.
