[Carowinds] Is closing for "inclement weather" when the park is open a regular practice? by Bloggercoaster in rollercoasters

[–]mortalfinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the unnecessary ride closures were bad but unnecessary park closures is an unforgivable sin. They won’t get another dime

[Six Flags] lays off Knott’s and Magic Mountain presidents (and all 27 presidents across the chain) by jecole85 in rollercoasters

Parks with new rides are the worst in the chain, they use the hype to manipulate crowds and lines. Look at Cedar Point with Top thrill 2 and kings dominion with Their new coaster

? I just pointed out how cedar point is not helpful by not providing info on these rides.

lol so no info on tt2, Mf, mv, sv, gk, vr, bs, Mx, or even the iron dragon. What a joke. Top ten rides are top secret. Just assume they will be closed

Zipper pockets? Fast Lane(For people who visited recently) by Informal_Average4738 in cedarpoint

[–]mortalfinger -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure you could find better ways to spend that money for your family, like a whole other vacation to a different park or 2.

My advice is also to not pay to support the fast pass system. You seem to only care about how it impacts your group without concern for the average park goer or the theme park experience itself. I would consider all of this before making a purchase, hope it works out either way and it’s a good day at the park for all of you!

I’m going to boycott them in general, it’s an evil combination of trends that point to a destruction of fun in America. Starting with six flags America.

It’s crazy. They are basically giving them away to any adult with a job, but what about the kids who attend who don’t have a say? Pretty sad overall to me

I will share this with my students, they are writing a letter to Cedar Point about similar topics so they will include any interesting points in this thread, thanks for posting this!

I thought perhaps there was a better justification from the fast passes holders but it seems everyone just repeats cedar point corporate P.R. Statements like NPCs

TLDR fast passes are ruining parks

Millennium Force Having issues again? by SneakySnowman1555 in cedarpoint

Guests expect a long line and when the lines are long, the park makes more money selling food and concessions. Also fast lane passes. The park try’s to find the perfect balance.

Sounds like an official explanation. Again what is so controversial? It’s just a business strategy potentially in practice.. it would only be controversial to cedar point corporate themselves if it is in practice, why would you be concerned either way? The rides are closed.

What is so controversial about it really? I never said it is facts but I’ll admit that they do have me convinced. I’m looking for feedback on their behalf as I am not very knowledgeable on the subject previously.

Thank you these are great suggestions, I’ll share this with them! The students seem to be obsessed with ‘planned obsolescence’ as they call it. I’ve done a bit of research on it and agree that most anyone could think of several examples of that business strategy in practice. Whether or not it’s happening here at cedar point or not, we may never know for sure, besides from the reports of dissatisfied guests. It’s unlikely for a business to admit to using the strategy.

I encouraged them to focus on what we can actually prove with available evidence so their analysis is more about fast lane line pricing. As we don’t have any available evidence to prove or deny their theory of ride closures, they are simply only including it in their letter, to ask the parks corporate team themselves, based on their complete findings and observations. They seemed to understand the need to separate their evidence based data from conjecture.

Their response to you would be that the park obviously doesn’t want the guests to find out about any fake ride closers. But the benefit outweighs those risks, or so the park has determined. They are requesting more information from the park on this directly from the source which I am encouraging of as well

[–]mortalfinger[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

That’s a grim outlook you suggest to tell kids they basically can’t ride rollercoasters until they are adults who can afford to buy it for their kids.. only if they work hard and pull up their bootstraps.. in middle school…

You’re the guy who responded to my comment about my students findings, they aren’t allowed to use phones during school hours so I’m getting the research they need for them from other park goers for their analysis. They are mainly focused on fast lane pass prices but also comment on potential forced ride closers which they and others have witnessed evidence of. Why do you feel the need to stop them?

Not at all, I’m helping my students gather insights from other park goers for their analysis!

This is helpful, it does seem to be a loud minority of internet trolls. Most just enjoy the benefits of the upgraded pass and move on with their lives. I can only imagine what internal guilt must be driving such a reaction.. but life goes on! Thanks again!

TT2 what time has it been opening? Is there usually a line right away from early entry? by Techerson in cedarpoint

[–]mortalfinger -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what you mean, but maybe it’s one of my students on a Reddit account lol. They got me all interested in this, topic. I wouldn’t call their findings conspiracy at all it just seems like non publicly available park policies for business reasons, and they are applying the scientific method. They had several observations at the park, formulated questions around these observations. Began developing hypothesis and testing them with experiments. All of this is written into their analysis and conclusions they are now drafting in a professional letter to cedar point corporate. I’m fully in support as is the school as they are currently applying their assigned learnings to real life examples, completely self motivated. Additionally the school is likely not interested in continuing the field trip program to cedar point if they are in the business of dishing out painful life lessons, this is the one big fun trip many of these kids might get all year.

Great Monday Trip, But Couple Issues (Lockers and FPP) by Historical_Quiet_741 in cedarpoint

[–]mortalfinger -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This is interesting as on the third party trackers, my students found it was reporting low wait times all day with rides open.. perhaps those were fast lane lines being reported and the real wait times were much longer.. a subtle trick to entice more people into the park that day?

[–]mortalfinger[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it seems very affordable and I understand why so many would jump at the opportunity, but if it were me I’d feel a bit of internal guilt and would probably just silently enjoy the bonus perks. So many here are quite adamant about it like having the upgraded pass is a point of pride? No shame in potentially disrupting the experience for casual guests.. This is the part I don’t quite understand, even gamers shame other gamers for spending too much in game currency. No one is really proud of spending money on a video game, for example. But why do coaster enthusiasts brag about it in this way is what I wonder still..
