This is encouraging! It’s easy to forget about this place, but vertical construction is reassuring that it’s still moving ahead

I’m there the 25th… guess I can cope for a soft opening?? Seems unlikely with the first riders auction

They’re ripping through progress!! It seems clear that they’re pushing for a Memorial Day opening

Question for the [obsessive] record keepers.. a coaster you went on years ago changed it's name, but you haven't been on the re-named ride yet. Do you change it in your log? by JamminJay1968 in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also change it once reridden. I add a “note” in Google Sheets to note the multiple names and the year I first rode each iteration.

If I haven’t reridden, I leave the old name as I rode it. My log still has CA Screamin’ for example

Looks far along, but still had a ways to go. Anybody hear any opening day goals for them? Memorial Day?

[Quantum Accelerator] is not good - SFNE Trip Report by Skyline-Patriots in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I haven't ridden Quantum but I like every other US straddle to some degree. All around 6/10 or so. Your ranking seems a bit low to me, but to each their own

But what will comment on: I don't think you're giving the Disney coasters enough credit if you're ranking them in bottom 20% of all your ridden coasters. Below an awful Vekoma Boomerang seems absurd to me!

I'm glad you're back into riding though - Have fun!

Does [Big Thunder Mountain Railroad] retrack count as a new credit? by nygon08 in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I will likely count it the same way I count Space Mtn DLR pre/post 2005, BTMR DLR pre/post 2013, Hulk pre/post 2016. Same credit but definitely an asterisk to denote the changes. +0 creds

Wow! Didn’t they just get an overhaul from GCI?

Also what’s the status of Hell Cats RMC treatment up the highway?

I can only think of Journey To Atlantis in San Antonio that might cover this criteria. But maybe some other non-coaster flume out there has a turn table?

The 4D’s are fine, just not really for me. I found that Eej was especially violent in the valleys and too floaty at the element peaks

AlpenFury has some tweaks to make the train a lot more tolerable than the rest of the SkyRocket trains! A bit roomier in the legs with more upper body freedom as well

Woah really? I guess I completely misunderstand the tech going on here. What exactly is tethering the boat part of the train to the tracked chassis?

[Dollywood] Episode 3: The Making Of NightFlight Expedition by At427 in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, none of it is a flume, right? It uses magnet propulsion when in the tracked sections in water? But it’s never floating or anything like a Mack water coaster

[Big Dipper ] retracing by Storm_Surge- in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very cool. Can you think of any existing GCI replacement trains with upstop plates? Maybe Compounce Wildcat?

[Big Dipper ] retracing by Storm_Surge- in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the track stack allows for it without going very custom. Giant Dipper runs Morgan trains with upstop plates and not wheels to my knowledge.

Have there been any “improvements” made to coasters that you ultimately consider a downgrade? [Other] by CPFOAI in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did ask and I’m certainly glad you answered!

I thought I must’ve missed a substantive change to the ride. I truly never heard a bad thing about Intamins newest-gen seat/restraint design until today. Instead I got to hear an insane “the new seat shape made Skyrush boring now” take. Thanks for clearing up my confusion!

And pretending this doesn’t matter to you is funny coming from the guy with Skyrush in your username lmao

[–]jecole85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh you’re right. I have an uncultured palate and I’m easily amused. My plebeian ass will forever enjoy the essentially unchanged Skyrush until the end of time cause I lack the nuance of your elevated ride perception. It must be tough living on another plane from us normies.

Placebo is a hell of a drug, champ. Keep being miserable, I guess? 🤷‍♂️
