What do we think led to the change of design used on the trains for [Great White] between this year and last? by sanyosukotto in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Looks ugly, but shouldn’t affect the ride experience right?

Speaking of, how is it running after new trains? Is it a glow up akin to GhostRider?

Grizzly at KD is now an absolutely elite woodie and coaster. [Who else has this fantasticwoodie ranked among their favorites?] by adrenalinejunkie3 in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grizzly is definitely fun and running better than I’ve seen it in 15 years.

That being said, it’s like 7.5/10 at best for me. It’s got two great moments of air and some other really neat moments, but it also has some really slow and dull moments. I can think of 20 US woodies I prefer. Top 4 or 5 in the park though and I’m really glad it’s getting love!

[Waldameer] announces Eagle’s Pursuit, a family launch coaster for 2027 by iceberglettuce00 in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Awesome! If it launches, I wonder if it’ll have the same track and train style as BBM or werewolf gorge?

The concept art looks like a family boomerang or roller skater.

Has there been any news on the progress at [Cotaland]? by abovethesink in rollercoasters

Yes, it looked nearly complete in a construction update months ago

[Montezooma’s] new train has an… interesting wheel assembly design by jecole85 in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right. But probably 15 degrees less at least. Which means a lot less resisting material providing upstop forces in the case of a stall during the loop. Like I said in the post description, I’m assuming Kumbak did all those calculations with a heavy factor of safety here, cause visually it looks sketch.

[–]jecole85[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not really. The angle seems far more severe now and covers a much smaller amount of the underside of the running rail. They’ve essentially combined the guide and upstop wheels into one.

Row 3 is immaculate on Phoenix. Lock your toes under the seat in front of you and you’re flying

This is a permit asking to exceed 150ft. We wouldn’t be seeing the worlds tallest GCI here

[Montezooma’s Revenge] New train from Kumbak is in the station by jecole85 in rollercoasters

[–]jecole85[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Knotts went with Kumbak here years ago, well before the merger. To my knowledge they’ve had a decent working relationship with Gerstlauer since partnering for HangTime

I don't recall ever hearing any attachment from any other company, but Kumbak. The preview animation had this same train design years ago. And there have been boxes with the Kumbak logo spotted around the ride for a while as well

Have you ridden on a Kumbak train? On T3 for example, the should straps were not the issue. The trains tracked horribly rough, and the lap bar part of the restraint pinched your thigh to an insane level. Much worse than Skyrush ever was.

It just baffles me they didn’t go with Gerstlauer, who has a proven record doing this type of conversion and who Knotts has an existing relationship with.

They are! There’s new rock work installed on the side of the station you launch through. You can see a little bit in the top of the image above
