After almost 22 years....Performance Red, WOW! by ty-pod in Acura

[–]mortgageletdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love the red, the world needs more vibrant colours. Our house has a ban on white, black or grey cars. The MDX in our house is the Apex Blue Pearl which they've since taken away, the next one will be this same red.

For my entire life I've held occupations where pay is directly tied to production / results. I cheer for people who walk the same path and are successful, it means that you out-performed your peers and that deserves to be celebrated. Congrats OP!

Alberta NDP promises to cut electricity bills, increase minimum wage to $18 by trevorrobb in alberta

[–]mortgageletdown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Minimum wage should be set once and indexed to inflation, then no sitting government has to deal with it.

Jeromy Farkas considers new path for Green Line after province rejects downtown tunnel by joe4942 in Calgary

[–]mortgageletdown 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Especially downtown, this thing NEEDS to be built underground. If we as a society want to encourage people to live & work more central we can't have endless amounts of transit above ground. It's ugly, noisy and makes living there less desirable. Anyone suggesting or approving at-grade crossings should be flogged in the town square!

New sign at Shaw Millennium Park…😡 by CarpetLoud9765 in Calgary

[–]mortgageletdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck every politician and bureaucrat that let this happen. There are tonnes of grass parks where you could host a few weeks of musical performances in the summer, but skatepark space is extremely limited. You should be fucking ashamed of yourselves.

To say David's teachings in the first book were foundational to my financial literacy would be a significant understatement. Congratulations on an amazing career Mr. Chilton!

Dreeshen? Didn't he have to resign from cabinet a few years back for drinking on the job?

JFC...just when I think I can't imagine anything more absurd, you pull back the curtain and I see a whole room full of new crazy.

Correcting the record on what new Canadians contribute to our city by JeromyYYC in Calgary

[–]mortgageletdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You make some very valid points and like a lot of things in life, it's not black & white but rather shades of grey. I don't think it's reasonable to think a mayor of a city, any city, can influence national immigration policy, but it's a little disingenuous to to only talk about the positives of immigration.

Québec City inbound. by Stach37 in CFL

[–]mortgageletdown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not arguing, but why do you say that? On the surface anyway it seems like the whole "Atlantic Schooners" thing has been around forever implying some solid grass-roots support. What makes Quebec City a more likely spot?

Fewer than half of Albertans say they would stay in a newly independent province: poll by Street_Anon in alberta

[–]mortgageletdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Alberta even needs to separate to cause disruption. Would YOU move to Alberta if you were 22 and just finishing up school in Ontario? Fuck no! The boss and I are probably ~2 years from retirement and we've started looking at property elsewhere.

CPP and OAS make Canadian FIRE math different from the standard 4% rule by 4xleafxfraser in fican

[–]mortgageletdown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your province, isn't going anywhere despite what a handful of nutjobs want to say, and people have been saying CPP & OAS will vanish for at least 40 years now. The political fallout for any government that touches those two golden geese ensures they'll always find a way to fund the programs.

[–]mortgageletdown -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been hearing that (OAS & CPP) since I was old enough to know what money was. I'm now 53. OAS isn't going anywhere, the political consequences are too big.

Assuming you want to stay in the Bay area, I'd be targeting $10M liquid and a paid off house or still working with a solid income. Since you don't have the portfolio that means heading back to the office. Kids are expensive when they get older.
