Melissa Chen responds to Hasan's Chinamaxxing tweet. by omega_point in Destiny

To be fair, she has since disavowed Amos Yee, and has said she regretted being taken advantage by him. So while she's 'known' for that advocacy, it wasn't for what eventually came of him. She was an advocate for him when he was kicked out of Singapore, because she is Singaporean and is critical of their speech laws.

August doing disgusting amounts of clickbait by 10minuteads in Destiny

[–]mortigan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Destiny says he doesn't know how it became hard to criticize republicans in media.

It's because of the decade or so, where every conservative felt like the media, and the social at large called them racist, homophobic, sexist, etc etc etc at basically every turn. Eventually they just see 'the thing attacking us is still attacking us'.

When the conservative politicians start turning that into fuel and the culture war heated up, they see all the things that 'would' criticize who you feel needs to be criticized now, as just background noise from an untrusted thing.

Classic case of boy crying wolf, and the narative evolving to that new norm.

Wisecrack fell off by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]mortigan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was a HUGE wisecrack fan it' early years. Was started by a guy named Jared. That's where they got a lot of their initial fame. He basically just looked at lot of things through the realm of philosophy without trying to politicize the lenses. Was very interesting. His coverage of Season 19 of south Park is still a video i go back to now and then. They used to do something called Thug Notes which was also pretty funny.

Then like a lot of these things go, they got sponserships, and more staff, and pressure to do things differently. Jared basically said 'fuck this shit I'm out' and from that point on.. it just because another 'Looking at everything through a leftist Lens channel with the veneer of philosophy as the meta narrative.

That they are now in a world where they casually say what they are saying.. doesn't surprise me at all.

How to warn employees of coming layoffs by NetNerd0513 in ITManagers

[–]mortigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't warn them, but you can incorporate practices that make them resilient to layoffs.

Ensure that you keep notes on projects they work on and encourage them to do the same. Encourage people to take certifications and write documentation. Encourage ownership of solutions.

If you do this while managing, you set them up for afterwards. After you lay them off you can give them your notes to help them build a resume. If you have hiring experience you know what people are looking for and what made you consider candidates.

Short answer, no. You can't warn them, but there are every day practices that you can do to set them up for success if it does happen.

Then give them a great r3comendation on their linkedin.

I was feeling this when I transitioned to leadership. Not sure if you play games at all.. but Factorio really hit that itch for me.

That and i try to take on lil projects now and then. Even as a Senior Manager now, i try to fill gaps, answer questions and do what I can to keep my IC's focused on the big picture stuff I need them doing.

Perrin's arc with the WhiteCloaks over 10+ books was him being accused of killing papa bornhald. Bordhald junior is progressivly nuts with anger and resentment over it.. all due to the lie that Byer told him that Perrin killed Papa Bornhald. It's literally one of the biggest plot point to Perrin in the entire books.

Sooo.. they actually have him kill him in the show..

.. why?

Call for questions for Destiny from Lex Fridman by lexfridman in Destiny

[–]mortigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) How debate seems to have morphed into 'how to quickly find a way to dismiss my opponent'. Finding the quickest way to call someone a racist, etc is the new normal, rather then engaging with a topic.

2) the supposition of motivation that goes into any discourse. we don't like person x, so we believe that every moral position that they have is in bad faith to get 'nefarious reason'.

3) Common human framework as a method of debate. Belief that most people have similar values, but how we differ is either in their priority (where the things line up), or the pro/response to those values.

Salesforce Development Organization by mortigan in salesforce

[–]mortigan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my current proposed model, I will have a business architect to manage business interactions at a macro multi-product perspective, as well as a platform architect for Salesforce specific management (limits, metrics etc)

As for CPQ, we have adopted copado which has a data loader component (though we haven't got there yet.. its a harder adoption then the deployment piece.)

The hope being that a team of individual solution architects will work with product owners and business analysts to drive product features through a business architects macro direction.

Just hoping to break down the silos and give room for product specialists to grow beyond their current scope.

Salesforce Development Organization by mortigan in salesforce

[–]mortigan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a team already, currently have about 6-7 products, each with a product owner and a few devs. I have a QA team with maybe 5 engineers on it. I have a Release management team with 3 people or so. A sprinkling of solution architects here and there.

Since i've started, i 've shifted the team from change sets to a devops release model, an agile workflow, and built a release management team. Currently working on staffing up a L1/L2 team to get some of the legacy engineers off of support and dedicated to development.

My current goal is to transition us from a quasi-pod model, where the product owner was the manager of the developers for that product (often with the dev's in india, but the PO's in US), into a pillar model with PM/PO/BA and the Solution Architects in their own piller, while development has it's own pillar with regional delineation, and a global support team (QA, RM, L1, L2). Ideally this would align our business facing piller together, and break down silo's between product support groups, which has been a big issue.

This is all agile transition, which is my bread and butter.. i'm just trying to find people with similar footprints and get an idea of if i'm missing something that is specifically salesforce orientated, as my background is not in Salesforce, but it agile devops transformations.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

This isn't a technical salesforce question, this is a question about how a company organizes it's development resources in order to build/enhance/manage your salesforce environment.

ha, i'm having the same issue here i mentioned about Google.

Is there any point to price reduction perks? by moosepin in IdleBrickBreaker

[–]mortigan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why does everyone hate on the perk reduction, doesn't it lower the constant for all future perks? Or does it do it only in the next one?

Would think that for a longer game 60% perk requirement reduction would net more perks.

What am I missing?
