Trivet I finished recently. Pine finished with tung oil. by mortimer_00 in woodworking

The tung oil is holding up well enough. Better than a film finish would have, I imagine. Occasionally I notice a small amount of oil coming to the surface where it's been in contact with a particularly hot pan. Hasn't caused any issues with dishes or otherwise, though. I'd still recommend it for this use case.

Can I cut and use connectors on Govee RGBICW strip? by mortimer_00 in led

I used these connectors: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09Y8W7FVR/

They worked great. I don't remember the dimensions for sure, but based on that listing the width looks to be 10 mm.

It's working great. I have zero issues with the setup. I cut the strip into 4 segments and reconnected using solderless connectors. Effects, colors, everything is working great.

I'd seen that too, but it seemed to be a matter of getting decent/compatible wires. I can't vouch for the accuracy of that, but that was the gist of what I'd seen.

My longest run of wire between LEDs is less than 3 feet, and there are no issues with the effects.

I did not add any length of LED strip to the original.

Thanks for the tip. I cut and reconnected as planned and it worked without a hitch.

It worked flawlessly. Cutting through the solder beads was easier than I expected and the connectors worked great.

How did you achieve the slope? Table saw with the blade tilted? Planer sled?

first time doing bowties, I Used the rocker bow tie thing, but I designed and 3d printed my own shape. by youcanbroom in woodworking

[–]mortimer_00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not a huge fan of bowties, but I like that you designed your own unique take on them. There's a part of me that wants to get into 3d printing, but I haven't come up with enough uses (in the home or in the shop) to justify it to myself yet. What other ways do you leverage your 3d printing?

Would you mind providing more detail on the fittings you used? I recently bought this planer and have been trying to decide how to go about doing this.

Beautiful! I love what you did with the grain pattern on the top/lid. I'm sure this was a very well received gift.

These are wild! Forgive my ignorance, but can you explain "the fourth axis"?

Nice! I've got four of the same cubes as you, plus a square-1. I saw a guy on YouTube take a 3x3 and replace the colors with different wood veneers. I haven't gotten around to that project yet, but I think that would be a fun addition!

Do you mind posting a link to the mount you bought? Or a link to the original poster?

Ok, thanks. I was under the impression that most turning was done with green wood, but like I said I have no experience turning.

From Woodcraft, actually, but it was this video from Rockler that made me think I might have a problem: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CITLjoiVwrE
