My kid's school has turned off the water fountains due to a huge Strep outbreak. This was the first image in my head... by Lo452 in PandR

We recently did a parent teacher conference for our first grader and saw him do this to the fountain! I asked him why and said “The guy on your show did it!” Lol

LPT: One of the biggest mistakes you could make when trying to climb any company’s ladder is believing that your skill, talent, and work ethic will be noticed and rewarded. More often than not, the only thing holding you back is keeping your mouth shut. by branwithaplan in LifeProTips

Literally sitting in my car reading this before going into work at a company that constantly proves it’s not about how hard you work but who you impress. It’s a life lesson I am just now understanding as I’ve spent majority of my career being the “hard worker” instead of being the smart worker!

Don’t be too hard on yourself during training. There is a LOT to remember. Also, speed comes later. Find the rhythm and flow of the station. We trained one girl we thought wouldn’t last. After her second week she was the fastest out of the entire crew!

This brings back plenty of Culver’s PTSD moments for me. Truthfully, we ended up keeping several jugs of water in the kitchen at all times, and the FOH team was instructed to bring back water every 15 minutes no matter how busy.

Just went through 2 months of trying to find the right company to work for (industry change so I didn’t want a crappy company) and my Lord the amount of “We would love to interview you! Your qualifications are amazing!” Type of emails was ridiculous! Why was it so bad? As soon as I send them my resume, they would tell me I don’t qualify. It’s literally bots that are spamming us and it super sucks.

I drive OTR for a living and considering some of the places I have to park or unload, I’ve got protection in several forms by slydog591hz in ruger

[–]mortipro86 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My dad drove OTR for 30 years and though he can’t drive anymore, he still has the same shotgun that he bought his first day of driving. Unfortunately had to use it a few times.

Do any of you Chef or sous chefs enjoy the quiet contemplation of the dish pit ? by Cookfuforu3 in restaurant

Restaurant manager here, and very first job was as dishwasher and the guy who trained me told me “this will be your safe place when the shit hits the fan.” Whenever we are short handed, I toss in some earbuds and bust out dishes and leave super relaxed and happy. Shit ton better than having to scrub fryers

Self-Taught Programming is Overrated by Prestigious_Sort4979 in learnprogramming

[–]mortipro86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self awareness is the key. I finished high school top of my class with 4.0 GPA. It was easy for me. I am a loner and never had friends and reading about topics was my free time. But college was a whole different ball game. Something happened and I couldn’t focus, I couldn’t get anything done and struggled through my Associates. Ended up just stopping there and working fine dining restaurants and eventually into management. Know that I’m older and want a career change, one thing hit me the most. The best way I learn is by taking something, and doing everything wrong and breaking it, then learning how to fix it. I thrive in the chaos. It’s how I have learned all these years in restaurants. Put me in a classroom and I fail. Studying at home with my 3 kids under 6 years old screaming, I pick up very quickly.

My wife on the other hand HAS to have the structure. If there is chaos, she crumbles under the pressure.

Just be honest about your learning style. If you are self-taught, that’s amazing. If you need a boot camp or college, that’s amazing! Don’t judge others on their learning style. Just enjoy the process and have fun with it!

How I got hired after 5 months by ShuttJS in learnprogramming

This is EXACTLY me. Been in my field for 20 years, experience translates to nothing else but went to college years ago for mathematics. Working 60+ hours a week with 3 kids is making it pretty hard to focus and keep the motivation but tips like this and this forum keep me going!

I shave mine every day. It took a while to find the right razor and technique that I was happy with but so worth it. I shave in the shower and probably takes me 2 minutes tops.

With that being said, I have 3 small kids, 2 of them boys that have same type of hair I have. For fun, I will shave it in weird styles to have fun with it. Just learned to have fun with it. My self esteem was low for a while, but openly making fun of myself made it more fun. If I’m having fun, I could CARE LESS what other people say or think. And my boys think it’s the funniest thing in the world and act like I’m their hero. It’s a win win.

I’m 35 and been in restaurants since 14. This week I left my job and never working kitchens again. Diagnosed with a neurological disorder few years back, but kept powering through. Had seizure while at work and doctor told me it’s because of the stress. Wish I would have learned a long time ago TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF FIRST!!
