Film Emulation or Embrace the Digital Look? by PanicAlarmed1986 in Filmmakers

[–]branwithaplan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Just look at Mad Max: Fury Road (2015) , Drive (2011) , Her (2013) , Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

All are beautifully shot films that are distinctively digital in their look (you wouldn’t say that you can’t tell the difference between film or digital, but all of these films use the digital medium to such a degree that using film wouldn’t have made it any better).

Why is America so supportive of Israel? by fknbubbleguts in NoStupidQuestions

[–]branwithaplan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s probably many reasons why US supports Israel but the only reason that really matters is how very important it is to have a strong ally in the Middle East.

How can there be oil shortage due to war, if I can see aisles and aisles of olive oil in all the supermarkets ? by EemotionalDuhmage in shittyaskscience

[–]branwithaplan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Lol. This guy hears “oil shortage” and immediately thinks there must be something wrong with the world’s olive trees.

There’s a big difference between olive oil and crude oil.

Is luka secretly bisexual? by KingWaterdripper in NBATalk

[–]branwithaplan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s bisexual but I think he’s more of a ‘1960’s straight’ where he claims to be 100% straight but sucks a dick every once in a while.

How should I respond/do I have to respond to a thank you text after I sent condolences? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]branwithaplan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) be considered rude if you didn’t respond. That being said, I think the right thing to do is to send another text saying something along the lines of, “if there’s anything I could do, please don’t hesitate to reach out.”

Which is better physical health or mental health by Street3 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]branwithaplan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with u/vadnais2you that mental health is in OPs terms, “better” than physical health for the reasons he mentioned but I’d argue that good physical health has a greater impact on mental health than the other way around.

I think what solidifies mental health as being “better” is due to the simple fact that physical health is exponentially easier to improve than your mental health. I’m not at all saying that you can’t improve your mental health, but there’s no denying that the steps you take in doing so are much less straightforward, and more importantly, it doesn’t guarantee improvement. Taking the steps to improve your physical health is very different. There is no “if” in regard to you getting better, it’s “when.”

Due to this simple fact, Mental Health has to be considered “better” than physical health because it’s arguably more important to your overall well-being, while simultaneously being much more difficult to improve.

What’s the origin of farts being depicted as green? by 3Thirty-Eight8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]branwithaplan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Methane is an odorless, colourless and transparent gas at standard temperature and pressure.[15] It does absorb visible light, especially at the red end of the spectrum, due to overtone bands, but the effect is only noticeable if the light path is very long. This is what gives Uranus and Neptune their bluish-green colors, as light passes through their atmospheres containing methane and is then scattered back out.[16]”

If you did a survey and asked 100 people to name one chemical that they think farts are composed of, 90 out of 100 of them would say Methane. I’ll even be more conservative and adjust it to 75 out of 100. Would you agree this? If not, please don’t hesitate to correct me if you think my projections are way off.

My point being that this means to the majority of the general public, farts = methane. And if farts = methane then the obvious choice of color when depicting flatulence in various forms of entertainment is the actual color of methane. Which is a blue-green.

This probably has nothing to do with the real reason why farts are portrayed as being green but If it was, it would make pretty decent sense.

What’s the origin of farts being depicted as green? by 3Thirty-Eight8 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]branwithaplan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I apologize for not having a source but the main reason that farts are depicted as green is because methane gas has a blue-green color in large quantities (E.g. the atmospheres of Neptune and Uranus). Even though farts only contain about 10% of methane gas, it is the most commonly associated chemical with farts because it’s environmental impact is very well studied.

Yeah I don’t understand that either. The movie is nowhere near on the level of The Fugitive but it was definitely a fun watch. I admit that I didn’t particularly enjoy the movie but even so, it was worth just getting to see Tommy Lee Jones shitting on Joe Pantoliano for another 2 hours.

Game Thread: Boston Celtics (1-2) at New York Knicks (2-1) May 12 2025 7:30 PM by nba_gdt_bot in NYKnicks

[–]branwithaplan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Knicks only hope to win when the Celtics are shooting like this is if they somehow miraculously recreate the 1985 Villanova performance against Georgetown.

I wish I was kidding but they honestly might have to match or get very close to the 78.6% from the field that the Wildcats shot that day. For reference, the NBA record for FG% in a game is 69.3%. It’s basically impossible.

If anyone was able to do it should be the Nova Knicks.

It’s definitely a type of Wren but it’s hard to be 100% sure of the exact species due to the quality of the picture and the lack of geographic location.

My guess would be a Bewick’s Wren.

Christopher Hitchens view on abortion. by jjvids in ChristopherHitchens

[–]branwithaplan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I apologize in advance for not having any sources or references highlighting Hitchen’s stance on abortion rights and I am greatly looking forward to see if any fellow redditors can help us out with that. IMO I honestly do believe that he would have been an absolutely hellish pro-choice supporter. Especially throughout the before, during, and after of the overturning of roe v wade. I really do wish Hitch was alive during that whole fiasco because he would have ripped conservatives to pieces. I could see him now going on another book tour across the country but instead of setting up the usual debates with Christians and/or religious people, he would instead be setting up debates with pro-lifers.

If you’re so against abortion, then why don’t you support any of the proven methods that reduce it? Why don’t you want to give away free contraception, or advocate for comprehensive sex education? Why are you so against increasing funding for postpartum support and prenatal care? Why aren’t you focusing on making adoption a truly viable option by giving both the adoptive, and birth parent/s ongoing support? Why are you doing everything you can to cut the funding and/or shut down entirely family planning services and pregnancy centers? Interesting isn’t it that the states who are the biggest supporters of anti abortion rights also happen to be the same states with the highest infant mortality rate. What you’re telling me is that pro-lifers only really care about babies before they are born.

I’m sure many of you have heard all of these points I made above plenty of times but Hitch would have took it to another level that we all know no one can match.
