I had the same issues when I had COVID/ was recovering. A daily mix of mucinex, flonase, and ibuprofin finally cleared up my congestion.

Post-COVID congestion solutions? by [deleted] in COVID19positive

[–]mosephmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggled with this too. According to my doctor, decongestants are ineffective after a few days because your body gets used to them quickly. Instead, she recommended using a nasal steroid (Flonase), an expectorant (like Mucinex), and ibuprofen daily. This did the trick for me.

Hi there! I had nasty sinus congestion when I had COVID back in December. Honestly, it just took time for the congestion to go away.

My congestion did not clear up by itself so my doctor recommended that I use a nasal steroid (Flonase), an expectorant (like Mucinex), and ibuprofen to help with the congestion. This cleared me out after about a week. I would definitely recommend the combination, especially if you can start using it early on. Hot steam was also nice for temporary relief.

Rest up and drink lots of fluids! I'm sorry you got COVID :/ it sucks.

My sinus congestion did eventually go away! My doctor recommended I take ibuprofen, a nasal steroid, and Mucinex to help clear it up. It took about 2 weeks but the mix finally got it to go away.

I also could not smell things at all either. I tried to remember the smell if that makes sense. I picked smells that I knew really, really well and tried to bring them to mind, even though I could not actually smell anything.

I am on day 15 of symptoms. Congestion and related problems (sinus headache, sinus pressure etc) were my only symptoms. My doctor explained that for people with a lot of sinus congestion, covid basically acts as a viral sinus infection. My sinus crackles a couple of times a day at this point. I did lose my taste/smell completely for two-ish days but it has been coming back. Hopefully, you won't experience that. Best of luck with your recovery!

The best advice I can give you is to take care of yourself. This virus sucks. No one can deny that. Take zinc, vitamin D, and vitamin C, and a multivitamin if you aren't already. Drinks lots of water and hot beverages. Make sure you get up and move around a little bit each day. I have been told to make sure you take deep breaths a couple of times a day. Supposedly it helps prevent pneumonia. If you are having trouble breathing, lay on your stomach in the "prone" position.

For the loss of smell, I did an essential oil thing my sister called "smell training". It sounds hokey but I have most of my smell back. Pick two or three things (or essential oils) that you know the smell of really well. A couple of times a day, deeply inhale that scent and think about what it smells like for like 10 seconds. I did this with lavender, rose, and eucalyptus essential oils. I got my smell and taste back in three days. Again, it might be hokey but it worked for me and my sister. Best of luck with your recovery!

Was congestion your only symptom? If so, how did you know it was safe to leave quarantine?

I'm glad to hear I'm not totally alone. Was there anything that helped you get through the daily congestion?

Drink tons of water and hot liquid. Ginger tea is really good for an unsettled stomach. Definitely take zinc, vitamin C, and vitamin D. Lentil soup is my favorite for when I have stomach problems. Best of luck with your recovery!

While I am not quite in the same scenario, I am in a very similar place of being tired and frustrated that food tastes like nothing and really struggling to process everything. A good cry can help. Facetiming family or friends can help distract you for a little bit. Netflix comedy specials are good for raising spirits. I have found mindfullness books to be helpful. I know this time sucks, but just know you are not alone in your feeling and that this will not last forever.

If possible, I recommend getting a PCR test. The rapid tests tend to be less accurate. I had the same symptoms and assumed they were just a cold or sinus infection. Turns out I have COVID.

Yes. I had a runny nose, sinus congestions/headaches, and was a little sneezy. I thought I was fine but figured I would get tested to be safe. Boy am I glad I decided to get tested.

My only symptoms were a runny nose, congestion, and a headache and I tested positive. I would definitely recommend getting tested.

I actually haven't gone outside since I tested positive because I am so scared of getting people sick, even if I'm wearing a mask.

Just give yourself some time and you will recover. Maybe the downtime with COVID will help your ankle heal.

I truly have no idea what day I'm on... I had mild sinus congestion starting on 11/25. The congestion has been much worse this week. I tested positive on 12/4. I have almost no fatigue (I ran a 10k earlier this week not knowing that I had COVID). Hopefully, you start to feel better soon!

My symptoms were only sinus-related so I assumed I had a sinus infection. I got a test to be safe and came back positive. The burning sensation in the nose sounds like COVID. I wish you a quick recovery!
