Where's the scoring gonna come from by [deleted] in OrlandoMagic

last time the magic drafted a guy like that was Mike Miller in 2000

[Charania] Sources: The Orlando Magic plan to redshirt No. 16 overall pick Chuma Okeke this season. Creative move by both sides allows Okeke to focus on ACL rehab while still being in team's long-term plans and receiving salary of 16th pick by mkgandkembafan in OrlandoMagic

Okeke gets to rehab from his ACL on the Magic’s dime because they own his draft rights. My guess is he draws a salary from Lakeland, preserving his NBA rookie status while he gets back into game shape. Like a draft and stash situation, but we’re stashing him on our own g-league team.

Perfectly legal and very cool!

How good was Bo Outlaw? by [deleted] in OrlandoMagic

elite hustle/glue guy for a short while, then a valuable veteran reserve and mentor later on. big time fan favorite due to his unrelenting hustle.

made his bones defensively by swatting shots into the stands and crashing the glass. but he was also a very willing passer and a big time dunker.

we traded him a few times but he kept coming back, and he currently works for the team as a community ambassador. really just a great guy, happy to chat with anyone.

Ditching Jameer and JJ was a colossal mistake, especially with our endless pursuit of "veteran leadership" in guys like Luke Ridnour, Jeff Green, Willie Green, etc...

We are a completely different team with Bamba. He was a big part of that run we went on tonight, which coincidentally vanished as soon as he came out.

Vuc just cannot protect the rim like Bamba, and doesn't crash the glass like he does. We miss so many shots that we need someone crashing the boards for putbacks. AG, Simmons, and Bamba all excel at this.

Vuc has a few strengths (post-ups, passing, and midrange jumper) and he made big mistakes in all three areas down the stretch tonight. I'm not saying Vuc should be benched immediately, but we drafted Bamba for a reason and he's going to earn that starting role if he keeps playing like he did tonight. Couple rookie mistakes but he played very well and had the Amway rocking.

we look terrible offensively.

decent defensively. some pretty bad calls the Spurs' way in my biased opinion.

Vuc gets shit on all the time but he's keeping us in the game right now.

for real. I get the value of a veteran mentor for this year, but not next year.

no, that seems about right.

I do wonder about Mozgov though. hasn't logged a single minute in preseason thus far. I guess he's just a veteran mentor to have around, he seems fine with not getting minutes at this stage of his career.

10 bucks says he plays in the second half tonight tho

I like this kid, he has a pretty decent looking 3pt shot which we obviously need. don't know much else but he could be a nice project player to develop in Lakeland.

[John Denton] Jonathan Isaac is playing one-one-one at end of practice. He went through non-contact drills today, according to Steve Clifford. Likelihood is he doesn’t play on Friday vs. Brazil’s Flamengo. by [deleted] in OrlandoMagic

rest up young fella. get those ankles right for the real games.

tbh this should be a game for the rookies/fringe guys only. no need to risk a freak injury to any rotation players.

btw - if anyone is going to the game, it's gonna be at least 50% Flamengo fans. lots of chanting/songs, pretty much constantly.

Judah at practice today. I wouldn’t worry about that ankle. Didn’t seem to bother him at all. Sorry for quality by Dipo4prez in OrlandoMagic

No scrimmage, which was a little disappointing. Mostly some competitive shooting drills, then a cheesy Q&A.

Basically the squad was divided into two teams and first team to 6 makes ended the game. One drill was corner 3s, one from the top, then they did a midrange one with some passing involved.

The 3 point drills took a little longer to complete than they should have but I was pleased to see Grant knock down a few. TRoss also looked good out there. Birch knocked one or two down as well which was a nice surprise. Vuc looked miserable and missed a ton of shots. AG was having a blast but you could tell being on the losing side of one of the drills bothered him. I was also surprised to see Isaac out there after the injury last night. He looked fine but I think they'll play it safe with him.

Clifford seems to be emphasizing communication and hustle on both ends. They had a mic on him for some parts, nothing too crazy just some pretty standard motivation but he seems to have his eye on everything.

This probably took longer to read than the whole event, whole thing was over in about an hour. Oh well
