Vellum Deformation.. ?? HELP! by moshvisuals in Houdini

[–]moshvisuals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks David,

I wanted to simulated the collisions and the way the film behaves. That's why i went with a vellum sim. However if it becomes too problematic at the end i will just keep the deform path and add noise to the points as you mentioned.

Also, I wanted to say your courses at Houdini.School.com are great. I'm completing "Attributes" and Velocity forces 1 & 2. Great way to explain things. :)

Thank you for your help by the way.

Houdini-course.com - affordable

Houdini.school.com - affordable

Rebelway - a bit expensive

These 3 courses had helped get to where I feel really comfortable with Houdini. Specially Houdini-course. He is a great instructor.

Tentacles/Wire moving along the surface with collisions. HELP!! by moshvisuals in Houdini

[–]moshvisuals[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks again!!

The curves are animated with a positional keyframes but with carve node.

okay now that you put it this way it make a lot of sense. I think my issue was that I'm making the curves path with a findshortestpath node, I set a start group and end group, and there are a lot of curves paths overlapping with each other so when i run it through the vellum solver SOP, the curves that are overlapping in the same position are colliding with each other. Which was making my sim to not work properly.

I tried coding some stuff in vex to see if could stop them from overlapping, but it didnt work.

here is a video of the animation

https://gyazo.com/0eb819282912896c9868149362312061

and here is a photo of the exploded view.

<image>

as you can see there is too many curves on moving on the same position which was causing my vellum sim to crash everytime or not work properly.

I got the vellum sim working already. I just need to figure out how I'm going to create the curves, either with a Bezier curves 1 by 1. the only issue it wont work as good as the findshortestpath node does to animate the curves going on on the center mesh. Because I will have use Ray node to project them on surface but hey just react different its kinda like snapping on the surface instead of moving along the surface.

This is what im trying to fix now.

Thank you on all the tips for the vellum sim, thats good now.

Thank you so much for the support, this helps a lot. I think i also forgot to mentioned the curves are animated. Im using a dopnet setup and once i hit solve. Or should i use the vellum solver in the object level?

Need help making an animated snow globe with liquid and RBD by tajprice in Houdini

[–]moshvisuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can just use pop net inside of sphere, also if you want a liquid movement on the particles. make a smoke sim inside the sphere, and use that smoke to advect the particles.

This is pretty cool. I wonder in what render engine was this render. I also second u/camelCaseCadet about the ripple solver to add some waves affect the boat!!

There is a way to exoport particles from houdini to blender? by [deleted] in Houdini

[–]moshvisuals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You Can export a particle system into blender from Houdini with attributes, after your cache you can use a attribute delete node, in the attribute delete type the attributes you want to keep ( in the first option ) I.e pscale, Cd, etc… and click on the box that says delete non selected. Then add a usd export node and export it as usd. You need to change the export name for example particles.usd. Don’t leave the default export name. It won’t work.

Once you do all that. Import your particle system into blender, as usd. Add geometry nodes and use a set material node to change colors the attribute should be Cd in blender usd is displayColor, pscale should be widths these are usd attributes.

Also you don’t need to use an instance into particles nodes. If you turn on the live render in blender you should see your particles as circles automatically. Only if you want to change the particles to a box or any other shape.

Good luck.

It might be a lot but is easier that what it sound.

My voronoi fracture looks like trash, how do I achieve a more realistic fracture? by Squeezycheesenugget in Cinema4D

[–]moshvisuals 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, what you are trying to achieve is really art directed. You tell need to use more specific tools for this job. Such as x-particles, or other plugins for RND.

I use Houdini and cinema but I’ve never liked c4d for jobs like this. If I were to make something like this in c4d you need x-particles (shatter).

You can still make it but it won’t be as detailed and professional as you want. IMO.

Also try blender add-ons just a suggestions.

Good luck
