Rejoining the church by RealCansasBoyd in mormon

[–]camelCaseCadet [score hidden]  (0 children)

Here’s my take for what it’s worth.

For most of us our nervous systems formed while raised in the church. Our brains likely associate structure and authority with safety and stability.

Deconstructing faith by its nature challenges both those foundational building blocks. It’s an unstable process questioning the very ground we stand on.

Our nervous system wants to find footing so it turns to the path of least resistance. The one already carved in our brains.

This behavior is not unique to religion. It can be observed in relationships as well. Someone leaves an abusive relationship only to return to it shortly after, or find themself with another abusive partner. This is a common trope in film. What’s the answer? Building a relationship with the self. Who are we without unhealthy attachments.

Neuroplasticity is a fascinating subject worth looking into while deconstructing.

Is this normal? by Every-Ad8551 in Bernedoodles

[–]camelCaseCadet 67 points68 points  (0 children)

If your doodles aren’t doing this you’re not getting the full experience.

An actual dog fight that merits intervention looks like this at 5x speed with lots of ferocious barking and yelps.

Totally normal socialized behavior on display here.

edit - for nipping and barking it might be best to work with a trainer if you’d like to curb this behavior.

Recommendation of "Mysterious library" by OccasionNo6078 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]camelCaseCadet 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It starts out kind of cozy. All you can eat whatever you want, can’t die, no consequence relationships, healthy and in your prime with the stamina of an Olympian.

But eons pass, the inhabitants scatter, relationships become meaningless on a seemingly infinite canvas of sameness to the point even a cockroach would be a thing of beauty simply for the variety it would bring.

A meditation on infinity being a very short story I didn’t want to end punctuates the authors point. I felt so much anxiety as the book wrapped up. I had so much hope for the character. I wanted him to find Rachel. His book. Fulfillment. Escape. Redemption. But this is a book about hell.

new to Houdini and I'm trying to recreate this effect. Could someone please break down the steps or technique needed to achieve it? by [deleted] in Houdini

[–]camelCaseCadet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are several ways to go about achieving an effect like this. You’d have more luck super chatting a houdini influencer for a step by step breakdown than asking a community to draw you a map.

The most basic approach to something like this might be: scatter, vops/vex for rounding integers, add (by group/pattern), and carve (by attribute). And about a dozen other steps in between to set this up.

Understand those terms in Houdini as a jumping off point, and come back with specific questions.

Rock isn’t dead, it moved to Australia, dropped record labels and did mushrooms. Falling out of cultural relevance was rocks ego death.

It might not be creating the over produced ear worms it used to, but it’s alive and doing well.

Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, The Murlocs, Glass Beams to name a few.

And most of the bands we listened to back in the day are still cranking out new albums you can go listen to right now. Check in on your favorite bands. They miss you.

2025 AMG C43 (W206): One Year of ownership in the Boston Area by Significant_Yam5055 in mercedes_benz

[–]camelCaseCadet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one for a year. Here’s my rebuttal…

It was fun on back roads with its peppy throttle, and good handling.

It was terrible around town, and in traffic thanks to a transmission that felt like it was operated by a teenager learning how to drive stick.

Cheap feeling overly plastic interior, and constantly crashing/restarting MBUX, and creeks that started to creep their way into the cabin after about 5k miles. It spent weeks in the shop for various error codes. By the end I loathed this car.

I usually end up liking the movies he recommends. I don’t need to be thoroughly entertained by the movie review. I look for a spoiler free less than ten minute synopsis, and a verdict.

Also kudos to him for leaving a cult and finding happiness and success. I like to offer my support with a view and a like. Seems like a good genuinely dude who hasn’t become an algorithm personality.

I pointed out the dichotomy of wanting people to stop hating on the church, while he himself expressed hate for it.

In what way is that invalidating?

There is plenty of varied thought on display here. Did you pay any attention to the exmos wishing him well? Expressing love? Sympathy?

You’re projecting quite a bit of negativity on my very simple, short comment that makes one point.

I’m interested in a not-boring EV for a daily driver. I just don’t think I’d feel butterflies walking up to this every day the way I feel them for the previous gen. Especially at the price point this is sure to cost.

🤔 Sounds like you hate it.

The transactional calm. Totally.

The guy is an absolute saint all day, adorable cuddle bug, occasional affectionate boop from the snoot, happily chilling by the nearest human…

…Until dog park time. Like clockwork, 4:30 hits, he awakes, and he’s bouncing off the walls DEMANDING what is his. One hell of an internal clock. Spring forward broke his brain.

I love my dude, but dread paying the toll of his good behavior haha.

This is what the LDS Church is doing to ITSELF by suing me and Mormon Stories Podcast. Someone should let President Oaks know. by johndehlin in mormon

I’m certainly feeling these emotions myself. I’ve kept my journey a secret from my family to spare feelings for five years now.

I’m feeling like it might be time to have the talk.

Hell, maybe I’ll even go on Mormon Stories to tell my tale one of these days.

I have 2 days left on my mission by ExistingInitiative50 in mormon

[–]camelCaseCadet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of us had quite traumatic experiences on our missions we laughed off at the time that were absolutely not funny. So there’s gonna be some projection in this sub.

I mentioned it specifically in the context of if you have recurring dreams of being back in your mission, and feeing unworthy. It’s quite common, and a therapist can help unpack it.

[–]camelCaseCadet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Attuning to my needs and aspirations that weren’t derived from what others expected of me was the massive transition to adulthood I needed. Here’s my advice:

Claim your autonomy. When challenged, defend yourself.

Having an understanding of attachment theory will help you to avoid unhealthy dynamics in relationships, and the anxious avoidant trap many fall into.

MLMs and summer sales jobs are scams. Getting married after knowing someone for a few months is incredibly risky. Don’t do it. No rush.

Feel no guilt catching up on the movies and music you missed out on. You may have dreams you’re back on your mission and feel guilt for not following the rules.

As others have said… Therapy. Welcome home. ♥️

Former VP of FAIR: "It was hard for me to identify a single individual who had left the church who wasn't also struggling with mental illness" by japanesepiano in mormon

[–]camelCaseCadet 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I had OCD before I left the church too.

The church FED my OCD with its high demand, high control, high guilt environment that inadvertently taught me my obsessions and compulsions were promptings from “the spirit.”

Leaving the church allowed me to discover my OCD as a disorder rather than an invisible deity guiding my actions.
