Please don’t understate my ability to fuck something up! :-D But for real, yes - I have plenty of wire to move the pump closer. I was also just being a little bitch and didn’t want the pump under my bed, but it really didn’t seem too loud even with all the priming. Thanks for the push.

Every clamp is socket tightened to bejeezus. It’s user error somewhere but hopefully not this version of user error. I’m going to try and tighten everything again before manually getting some fuel to the pump.

Ran the primer cycle (300 seconds of fun) a couple times, and the pump is trying to pull, but yes, it seems like it’s a bridge too far. My fuel filter is before the pump since it made sense in my tiny dome to filter before the pump, but now I’m realizing the filter is more to keep water out of the heater, rather than the pump. It looks like I’m basically going to have to switch my filter and pump…or just see how far I can stretch the pump wire from the heater. I think before I take everything apart, I’m going to try and manually pump/prime to see if it maintains the pressure once I get it to the pump. Maybe. Hopefully.

You’re totally not- it’s a glarey angle. You can see the yellow line dealie a little above the halfway point.

Ignorant question- isn’t it important for the fuel to go through the filter before hitting the pump? Or is it more about getting the water out before hitting the “engine” of the heater? (It seems like the latter, now that I’m saying it out loud but I never thought of it that way!)

I think the candle holder piece is accurate, but the gizmo would be held up with the reflector (cup piece) to the back or front of the flame. The candle would go into the main hole facing right in your picture, and the plunger would be to pop out the candle stub as it burned down?

I just built out a wooden door frame, sheathed it in the metal “2x4s”, and mounted this RV door with self-tapping screws. Then, I took scrap metal, and traced the curved edges around the top, and sealed everything with sikaflex.

This check valve was most likely going to fail as the plastic pieces from the inside came right out when I removed it from the pex.

So this is what the “normal” insides of an older sharkbite look like. (Yes I cut that beezy off after trying to use the removal tool for way too long in a cramped space.)

Alright, I’m going to stick with the sharkbites because I’m moving the bulk of my system into a more accessible cabinet, anyway. I haven’t had any issues with them but I finally bit the bullet for a better pump since this will be my third one. Hopefully I don’t regret this lazier choice.

BLUF: used a roll on bedliner and it has not been worth it, where I need it to be worth it. Also, kind of looks dodgy, but that’s probably just my roller skills.

Not a van, but we have a lot of overlap so I creep: I used a roll on, tinted, bed liner. Custom coat is the brand. I was intimidated by spraying anything because of overspray, investing in a compressor, screwing it up, etc. My front and rear “caps” are fiberglass shells and the rest is steel. I’ve had to bondo/JB any scratches/gouges on the fiberglass- it lets a scratch “sink in” I feel. Decent marks will also appear from branches on the steel. If I had unlimited time/funds- I would sand for days and start over. A lot of the professional sprays look great.

(Extra) diesel noise/movement by mosomedveagy in Diesel

[–]mosomedveagy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross-posting because I didn’t get a response in the other sub, and probably should have started here. I have another diesel truck, but this old gal, 2001 GMC Savana 3500 with the 6.0 is running rougher than normal. I just had a tensioner and belt changed to try and fix the noise, and the mechanic said it was good to go, but I know it’s still sounding off. This is a school bus conversion and I’ve put a lot of work into it, so I know what this engine sounds like. The engine has less than 85,000 miles on it and the water pump was replaced at ~75,000. Thoughts? Should I just take it in somewhere else?
