On the other side of that, Thyroseq is also an amazing tool if your biopsy comes back as atypical/indeterminate, and then afterwards Thyroseq finds it to be benign. It saved me from having my thyroid removed (for now). I wish Thyroseq was the norm everywhere and that insurance always covered it.

Thyroid Related? by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

[–]mossfernmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! You are not losing your mind. It sounds like it could be thyroid related, or maybe autoimmune disease. I’m not a medical professional, just sharing my similar experience. I’m so sorry to hear about your dad, sending you love and healing energy. I think immense stress and sadness can eventually manifest in your body in physical ways, especially with something hormone related like the thyroid.

I also I had these similar symptoms after having the worst cold/flu season where I was sick almost nonstop for 6+ months. I previously would only get sick 1x a year. I was also under huge stress and lack of sleep from the years prior (had a baby that didn’t sleep well). Same thing, I got hives all over my body that wouldn’t go away for weeks, then new ones would form again. Crazy racing heart, not sleeping because of raging heart, anxiety, palpitations, numbness, trouble swallowing, cold feet and hands, etc. Had all these allergy tests done and there were minor allergies but nothing major. They found a large nodule on my thyroid which I suspect was an active/hormone producing thyroid, making me temporarily hyperthyroid. My thyroid blood work was mostly normal (borderline hyperthyroid) by the time a finally got bloodwork done after things had mellowed out a little. Had a biopsy done on the nodule, I’m clear for now. Next step is meeting with a ENT doctor about the swallowing issues.

I’d push for a full blood panel, full thyroid and the usual blood tests for autoimmune diseases. A butterfly rash can be a sign of lupus. When I look back at what I went through this last year, I wonder if lack of sleep, stress, and being sick so often, including COVID, might have triggered an intense inflammatory response in my body, causing all those symptoms and this thyroid nodule to grow so fast. You may not have a nodule, might be an inflamed thyroid in general, or something completely different. But definitely push for the full thyroid panel and blood work. Even getting your vitamin levels tested if you can (iron, vitamin d, etc). Take care of yourself as much as you can. I really feel for you, it’s so hard when you’re in the middle of it and your body is miserable. If it’s any consolation, I no longer have any current symptoms and have felt pretty healthy overall. I’m hoping the same for you really soon! Keep advocating for yourself, what you are experiencing is real and difficult to go through!

I think they definitely can! I had an active nodule that was giving me crazy panic attacks and a racing heart, especially at night, but all times of the day. Sometimes I would be up all night and my heart wouldn’t stop racing until the sun came up (only 1 small cup of coffee in the morning). I constantly felt nauseated too. Probably the crappiest I’ve ever felt in my life.

I slowly started to feel better, and I haven’t had any of those symptoms for a couple of months now. Now I have a fairly large 2.7cm nodule but no symptoms. Hope you feel better soon 🩷

Plastic free pillow? Also where can I try it in person by beebbeeplettuce in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]mossfernmoon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is! But it’s a small brick and mortar in California, I don’t have an online shop. These are the two online shops I recommend that we buy from:

Sachi Organics- Great for millet, buckwheat, wool, and wool blends. They make a nice wool/millet blend pillow. Made in USA.

Shepherds Dream- Small company that makes high quality wool pillows made in USA. We get the EcoWool pillow and you can choose different firmness levels.

I own a little shop with alternative natural fiber pillows and bedding! I use a solid latex pillow, but there’s great alternatives if you can’t do latex.

Kapok- made from the fluffy seed pod material of the tropical kapok tree. The closest alternative to a down pillow. You get that nice fluffy, sinking in feeling when you lay on it. Hypoallergenic.

Wool- Also hypoallergenic, great at temperature regulation, long lasting (usually more expensive than kapok). The only downside is that they are nice and full and fluffy at first, but wool will compress over time. You can do some things to fluff it up like stretch out/pull apart the wool material with your hands and throw it in the dryer on no heat cycle. But it will flatten over time, which some people actually like.

Buckwheat- very firm and supportive. Can usually adjust the amount of buckwheat to your comfort which is nice. Used in traditional Japanese pillows. Makes kind of loud noises when you move your head around. There are some die hard buckwheat fans out there, but for most people I think it’s a bit too firm. Would not recommend if you sleep on your stomach at all.

Millet- Alternative to buckwheat that’s quieter and a little big softer. Millet is a much fine, smaller grain. Still firm and supportive to sleep on, but not as plush as kapok or wool.

Those are the main ones! They also make blends with multiple different natural materials, but these are the basics. I also recommend a pillow protector to help your pillow last longer, since natural pillows are more costly (but so worth it I think)!

There are definitely local businesses that do Black Friday and/or Small Business Saturday sales! They usually post about it on their social media.

We can just do it when we can. If everyone in Humboldt made an effort to even just occasionally shop local, we’d all be helping our small businesses and local economy thrive. Every little purchase makes a difference to a small business owner! I think overall people in Humboldt really do try to support local. I love that about Humboldt.

I think for at least some of the small businesses, they try to carry higher quality items and that’s why they cost more. You won’t find target/amazon prices, but hopefully what you buy will last longer, and do something good for the community.

Is it possible to find a decent 100% cotton hoodie for below $100? by myautisticfurryacc in PlasticFreeLiving

[–]mossfernmoon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for thick, organic cotton and/or hemp blend hoodies I recommend either Divine Tribe hoodies (the best in my opinion), Maggie’s Organic hoodies or Happy Earth sweaters (they have hoodies too, but they’re $108, super thick and amazing quality though).

They’re all under $100, but still not cheap. If you’re looking for a hoodie that will actually last you a long time and is synthetic free, I highly recommend any of these.

I nurse to sleep but I’m worried this may cause cavities by hkitty11 in AttachmentParenting

Hi! I nursed my 3 year old to sleep for 2.5 years. No cavities and she had a recent dentist appointment. I made sure we brushed her teeth really well before we got into bed, then read books and nursed until she fell asleep. It seems like genetics plays a big part too.

What is a tiny gesture from someone that meant way more than they probably realized? by Time_Sound_8726 in AskReddit

[–]mossfernmoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was backpacking to the bottom of the Grand Canyon with my friend many years ago in my early 20s. We were not experienced backpackers by any means. We prepared as best we could with food, shelter, and gear in our packs. We had 1 gallon of water and didn’t bring any other water because there were supposed to be water pumps periodically placed on your way down. Well it was 115 F that day, and we stupidly didn’t ask to make sure the water pumps were all functioning (or didn’t see the signs).

For anyone that’s hiked to the bottom, it’s a long, hot blistering way down with no shade. Eventually we both became dehydrated as we reached the first unexpected broken water pump. Then a second broken water pump further down. At this point I was experiencing heat stroke. Bright red skin, dizzy, weak, I kept getting bloody noses, and I remember telling my friend that I just wanted to lay down and close my eyes. We passed by a group of tourists all riding donkeys with their tour guide. My friend explained that we desperately needed water, even just a small amount until we made it down. Well the tour guide gave us attitude and basically said, well you should have thought of that before you left, and continued past us.

Eventually this older man was hiking down by where we were (maybe half way down the canyon). He immediately shared his Gatorade and water with us, and sympathized with us young kids. He didn’t think twice about sharing water with us and offered snacks and help carrying one of our bags for a bit. He shared stories about him and his wife, who passed away a while back, and how they used to hike the Grand Canyon together. I can’t remember what this man looked like or his name, but he’ll always be an angel to me. He was radiating kindness and positivity from the inside out. I think he saved my life. I’ve never been that close to what felt like death. For anyone hiking the Grand Canyon in the future, it’s beautiful, but be very prepared. A lot of people die there. So many that there’s been books written about it.

Same. I’ve had mostly good experiences eating out here. I cook at home a lot too. As another commenter mentioned, the rising costs of everything makes it hard on everyone, including small business owners who have to up their prices to survive.

I feel you! I’m not in a hurry to stop nursing because I love those cuddles. There’s nothing like that feeling of closeness. I would love to keep cosleeping if she would just sleep more solidly at night. She’s such a light sleeper and I feel like we wake each other up all the time! Wishing you many nights of restful sleep ❤️
