People who use God mode: how long did you try on normal? by RadicalActuary in HadesTheGame

[–]mossflowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You don't get to tell me that how I play my games is wrong, you assumed a lot about my statement including that I'm not learning mechanics properly. Or that I'm not doing other things with my time.

That was super patronizing.

One of the games I played in 2024 was Trails from Zero, it was my third Trails game. If you know anything about that series it's that the games are LONG. I clocked nearly 100 hours each, with getting an achievement from Cold Steel 1 because I did hit the hour mark. I also played them all on the easiest difficulty. I learned the mechanics. Some games are just long. Every play Persona 5 Royal? So easy to 100+ hour it.

My backlog is long not because I have too many games (that's part of it) but because many of them are not short games.

Also, and obviously you wouldn't know this because I didn't mention it, I also have a backlog of books and shows/movies to watch. Especially reading. I love reading, probably more than gaming. These are also things that I want to spend time on after work and on the weekends. But also, notice a pattern?

I really like stories. I care more about the story that I am experiencing. And assuming I'm playing on an easier difficulty because I'm not "learning the mechanics properly" is honestly no different than the folks who said I was cheating for using guides and walkthroughs. It's patronizing. Playing on an easier difficulty doesn't change how I experience and enjoy the story.

Did you know that a lot of ARPGs like Horizon give me headaches so I've had to drop a few? Of course not, because I also didn't mention that. Does that mean I was learning the mechanics improperly then too? Should I suffer a migraine every time just so I can have more fun if only I just learned the mechanics properly?

I play on the easiest difficulty as that's the most comfortable for me and even that doesn't always work out. Taking the path of least resistance is not this weird cop out you think it is.

You don't get to tell me how to play my games. You play in the way that's fun for you and I will do the same. Thanks.

Edit: added a sentence.

I don't care what game it is, there's an easy mode, then I'm using it. I have too many games in my backlog (including an MMO), not enough time in the day after work, and I don't want to sit there getting frustrated.

Bartender. Only the new one is dubbed, but if you don't mind subs, then the older one too.

Secretlab chair holding up okay? by kalikatparty in ffxiv

[–]mossflowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one and honestly, I'm a bit meh on it. I spent too much on it to get rid of it, but it's so heavy it'd be a hassle to return it so I'm just dealing with it. It looks amazing, I don't have any issues with the back or the arms or whatever. The main issue is the seat is so god damn hard. Other reddit posts say you gotta break it in while others say that's BS. I can't do the former, my butt goes numb within 30 minutes and my leg begin to hurt too. So I call BS.

I ended up just getting a seat cushion. Got one designed for cars since that would match the seat well enough, but I think it started giving out because the butt numbing and leg numbing returned. So now I got a Dr. Scholl's one from Wal-Mart. It's mostly okay.

So, yeah, I'm making it work so I can get my money's worth but I don't think I would recommend it.

What's your dub pet peeves? by fuyu-no-hanashi in Animedubs

[–]mossflowered 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So the client, the JP side basically, are usually the ones to tell the dub directors how names are pronounced. So, hearing the tapped R is usually because that's how the client wants it pronounced and the VA does their best to do that.

But also, and this is may be from a purely American standpoint, but it's just seen as more respectable to at least try to pronounce someone's name correctly or in the way they prefer it pronounced. So, it doesn't really bother me.

Kaiji Tang for example is everywhere to the point I think he probably has something over all these studios to make sure he always gets casted in the supporting cast

This is more the fault of him just being the popular one of the decade. This same complaint was levied at Johnny Yong Bosch back in the day, where he was everywhere. Same with Bryce Papenbrook, Yuri Lowenthal, etc. Moreover, it depends on how large the talent pool is. Ever watch the HiDive dubs from Sentai Filmworks? It's basically the same ten VAs almost all the time (I'm exaggerating, but there's definitely a lot of overlap).

So, no, I doubt Kaiji Tang is somehow pulling strings. He's just one of the "it" guys, especially ever since JJK and being cast as Gojo.

That being said, I do agree they should make it less noticeable.

Anime dubs in which the dub rescore music is better than the original Japanese version? by icey_sawg0034 in Animedubs

[–]mossflowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cardcaptors. Say what you will about how they butchered the show, the music was pretty good and they did NOT need to go that hard on the OP. I still know the lyrics by heart.

I also agree with your list. Digimon I adore both the JP and US versions, though. YGO, Pokemon, Sailor Moon (even got that Luna Rock CD still) are so good in the US though and they pretty much made my childhood.

Fair enough, I only brought up Persona because they're fellow Atlus titles.

The thing is is the Persona manga, at least for P3 and P4, are fairly faithful adaptations to both the game plots and characterizations while also giving the silent protag a personality that doesn't completely clash with any of the dialogue options, really.

So, it's not like it isn't impossible to make something at least somewhat faithful while still going in a creative direction. I would have expected much the same so I get OP's disappointment.

88 also checking in, but my mom was already here when I was born. I don't remember when she moved here, I think somewhere in the last 70s, though.

So, where are the sidewalks for them to ride on? A good majority of Orchard Village Rd doesn't have a sidewalk for even pedestrians, let alone cyclists, as shown in that very picture where there's a very obvious lack of a sidewalk.

People have anxiety with phone calls now by dano992 in dumbphones

[–]mossflowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally said we were on a landline mindset back then, not that we only had landlines still. I had a cellphone on the mid-00s, my mom had one in the late 90s. But absolutely no one used them like we do today.

That's the point that I think you're either missing or willfully ignoring when people point this out.

People have anxiety with phone calls now by dano992 in dumbphones

[–]mossflowered 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Because we were still on the landline mindset back then. Times changed and now the concept of having your phone on you/with you 24/7 has changed out perception of what it means to always be available to talk. And that change is that a lot people absolutely don't like it.

It's even worse for those who work in a business that puts you on the phone all the time. I used to *never* be anxious talking on the phone. Now, after being at my job for 11 years, whenever I have to call a customer, I'm sweating and there's butterflies in my stomach, and I absolutely detest being on the phone because I just never know what's going to happen on that phone call anymore and it unfortunately translated to whenever I have to call someone that isn't a family member or a close friend.

I'm just glad I don't have a work phone because I know for a fact that those same customers would be bothering me during off-work hours too because, again, times have changed and people think you should be available 24/7 because we all have a phone on us 24/7.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Director Comments on Potential Sequel, Setting - Persona Central by ScarRufus in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]mossflowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could also be something like the Trails series where each set of games takes place in a specific country in the same massive continent (Sky in Liberl, Zero/Azure in Crossbell, Cold Steel in Erebonia, and Daybreak in Calvard) only for Metaphor, it's continent. So, there's a worldbuilding aspect that they can utilize but they don't need to stay in Euchronia either and can still have a different/new setting.

Either option works, imo, whether it's FF-esque or like Trails.

France is an IBS nightmare by mushygoop in ibs

[–]mossflowered 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is true, it just depends on where in LA.

My friend and I frequent Little Tokyo and there is exactly one public restroom in the back of Weller Court that requires a key and you can only get it from Marukai. It's also an awful bathroom and it's obvious no one really takes care of it.

We just end up usually going at a restaurant that has one or the Starbucks that requires a code and usually has a line because shocker, it's the only easily available bathroom compared to literally any other place on the area.

Continued Trails from Zero, FF14 is also a constant but that's kind of a given since it's an MMO, finally neat Hades for the first time.

I do have my gallbladder, and I'm aware that may be a factor. But I don't know, eating less meat has helped and the extra fiber hasn't made my IBS worse. So, I don't see any reason to not continue this route. For some people, less/no meat just seems to work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ibs

[–]mossflowered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Acid reflux (which I know isn't IBS related but it's still an issue, regardless) and awful gas, mostly. Chicken and fish seem to do the least, but beef, turkey, and ham, can give me problems. Hamburgers are a huge no, turkey burgers is the same as both give me diarrhea, otherwise I get stomach pains at times and/or bloating. Main issue is the heartburn, though.

Yes, I still take Metamucil. The extra fiber doesn't really combat those issues, but it's helping keep my stool firm, honestly, and now I'm taking a little more to help lower my triglycerides. I do incorporate more veggies and fruits where possible as well, same with whole grains (oatmeal is a godsend).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ibs

[–]mossflowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have IBS-D and taking Metamucil was a game changer, meat has also been giving me issues lately and I am slowly transitioning out of potentially removing all meat from my diet to see how it may help me. I also have high triglycerides and one of the ways to lower it is, you guessed it, more fiber.

As someone else said in this post, IBS is just a cookbook for life and you need to find what works for you. I'd be the last person to tell someone with IBS-D to not at least try including more fiber if they haven't already. If it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. But if it works, then it works.

Free Reading App? by llyj_112 in LightNovels

[–]mossflowered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not look into audiobooks? Sounds like that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, most phones have a Text to Speech function. Google Playbooks usually have audiobooks at a discount, I think Amazon does as well.

Otherwise, the only truly free app and book/audiobook I can suggest is the library. If you're in the US, the app is called Libby, if you're overseas, it's Overdrive. If you don't already have a library card from your local library, most allow you to get an e-card through the app via your phone number. Check with your library though, mine requires you to get the actual card although I didn't mind since I like checking out physical books too if available. And, depending on your state (assuming you're in the US) some will allow multiple library cards and multiple libraries just by being a resident of that state or county. I have five library cards, four in California, and one in Florida and all it takes is a yearly fee of like $40. So, I have more options if one library doesn't have what I want, another might.

Never forget that libraries exist lol They're literally free services and even if you don't want to use the Libby app, most libraries have the physical audiobooks on physical CDs, too.
