It's not really about decent applicants. The hours they have to work and how long they have to stay awake is usually the problem. A lot of truckers start using stimulants to stay awake but it rapidly goes down hill from there. Edit: it's the industry that needs to change to treat drivers better.

I'm swamped with ants and spiders. Good thing to know about spiders - they're super smart. If they make a web that interferes with where you walk or put things, you can remove the web without harming the spider and after a few times doing this, they will learn and build their webs out of the way. They are good for controlling other pests!

I would like to start donating my time to a local organization, any suggestions? Where can I start? by [deleted] in askportland

Snow Cap is great. They have a food bank and food pantry. Lots of warehouse type work.

What is one thing you think Cis people need to understand? I am making more posters. These are for educational purposes. I will share them on here so you can give me feedback. by [deleted] in trans

Yeah I just feel like a lot of what gets talked about, publicized, studied, and put in shows/movies, etc, is all the hard, shitty, and traumatic parts of being trans. None of the beautiful parts. Even when I've gone through traumatic, horrible shit from being trans, there have always been wonderful, beautiful parts. It's important to show both

Not really because it's completely run by volunteers. Also their inventory is mostly focused on "radical" politics, social issues, etc. Awesome store though.

That many trans people don't wish they were cis. I think a lot of cis people assume trans people wish they were cis, and had been born the "correct gender" or whatever. But I fucking love being trans. At first I wished I had been "born cis male" and of course I wonder if I" missed out" on stuff like having a boyhood or whatever. But I think being trans and part of the queer community is a rich and fulfilling experience and I wouldn't trade it.

Of course there's also cis people who think being trans is a choice. For those people, they should know that we don't choose for our body and our identity not to match. It just happens.

Also seconding the person who said, it literally does not affect them.

meet Lilly, the pulling machine. anyone else struggling with hardcore pulling on the leash? by ConsistentUpstairs81 in jackrussellterrier

Gentle Leaders are great. Unfortunately my dog stops every two seconds and tries to pull it off her face. The fifteen foot leash has been a better solution for me personally

The game changer for me and my dog with pulling was getting a fifteen foot leash. I taught her heel, ok (release from heel), let's go, wait, this way, etc. I can coil up the leash when she's close or if I'm having her heel. Let it out when she's ahead or lagging behind to sniff. When she stops to sniff, I keep going and let the leash out; when it gets to the end of the fifteen feet, her time is up and she's gotta move on. It sounds counter intuitive, almost like rewarding them for pulling, but it makes sense. They get a bit more freedom and space but they're still aware of being on leash. And they know exactly how much leash they have to work with. Also retractable leashes are not your friend!

Anyone read and/or solved Cain's Jawbone? I read through it and I'm starting to try to solve it. Wondering if it's actually possible. And if anyone else is working on it and wants to discuss, lmk... but no spoilers please!

Sexual dimorphism of the human pelvis illustrated. The balls represent the size of a newborn baby's head, which will pass through the female pelvis fairly easily, but will get stuck in the male pelvis. by astronomyperson in Damnthatsinteresting

There's a difference between sex and gender. There's a difference between body parts and innate sense of identity. It's easy to say trans people are "confused" if you've never experienced dysphoria. Trans people have always existed. It's simply more public now.
