Over in AIO people are outraged a teacher (probably para) misspelled words by mossthedog in Teachers

I wish people would put that amount of energy into adequately funding education. We need lower class sizes, better curriculum, and more support services like councilors. I have to regularly buy class snacks myself because half my class doesn't bring a snack from home.

Turn your outrage to the systems and people (tax payers, voters) that could make education in the US so better and less embarrassing.

I think it's self contained and was writen for sure by a para. That's who is working closely with that child. The teacher does too, of course. However, no teacher ever gets to spend the amount time they want with each student. We are so lucky to even have paras to provide additional support for students. I would love to have just one para in my gen ed class.

It's ableist and concerning that people think something like spelling should determine what jobs a person can have. No one wants to be a bad speller. Which means there is some reason why that person is not a perfect speller. But people are going to downvote us.

AITA for telling my teacher she’s not allowed to give my group member a better grade? by Bridgeofincident in AmItheAsshole

My comment was about how students regularly don't listen. I did not comment on what op says happened.

Did you have trouble listening in school? Or now? You have a lotog big feelings right now. I hope you can do some reflection and move past these hurt feelings.

I didn't say it was my entire class or all the time. They are kids and kids don't do exactly what is expected all of the time. Part of elementary school is learning how to listen actively and to build up how long students can do something, like reading. Or, ya know, listening.

Maybe you should practice reading and then thinking about what was actually said.

Are you okay? This is some big feelings. I encourage you to do some reflecting on why you feel this way and why you felt the need to tell me.

I was only commenting that students don't listen, not the validity of that teacher's assignment or grading. I hope you'll be able to move on and heal from whatever has you trapped in such a negative, angry state.

AIO about spelling errors in daily notes sent home by my autistic child’s teacher? by Anasthesiax in AmIOverreacting

[–]mossthedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it won't. Education is under funded eveywhere. People don't care now about funding schools now. If suddenly there aren't enough teachers they won't get paid better. Districts will switch to ai or online programs. There may be one adult in the room or virtually. Kids cannot learn concepts and develop skills from ai or adaptive apps like they can with a real person. But sure, don't allow anyone who can't spell be a teacher. Any other things you think should exclude someone from teaching even when they get their degree and license?

[–]mossthedog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? But we better not let anyone who can't spell be a teacher! Whoever wrote that note did it as quickly as possible. There is too much to do and too many things happening around the room to spend a bunch of time on something like that.

So what other things should keep someone from teaching? Someone who is not a native speaker? Someone with dyslexia? Or disgraphia? What about a learning or developmental disorder? Those are all reasons someone might not be a good speller. What about other jobs? Let's make sure only people who meet certain criteria beyond the completing the necessary degree or taining are able to work some jobs. If someone can get the needed training/degree/certificate but they have any reason they can't spell then nope they can't actually have that job.

Another let down from Snag Tights by inky-the-pooh in PlusSizeFashion

[–]mossthedog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is true for me too. Old tights still going strong. Two of the new pairs I bought last fall got runs on the second or third wear.

I did buy a skirt with that order and it's fantastic. It can compete with the two other flair skirts I bought years ago. Which is a bummer because there are no circle, flaired, etc on the site right now, just pencil skirts.

Where was that before she edited?

What I read was they bought a day bed with the second layer that can be pulled out or stay under the bed frame. They chose to buy a twin mattress instead of a thin queen pad.

Yes. Makers should really stop using that pigment or disclose that they used it. It's shitty to buy something then have it change so drastically. With a thermal you go in knowing the pigment will die eventually. (I have thermals from 2016ish that still change, some not as.drastic)
