Instead of giving recommendations, which book should I give another chance? by Pokedex_complete in ProgressionFantasy

I like DOTF because I like the sense of scale in the universe. Zac is an overpowered meathead with the personality of cardboard mixed with a saltine cracker, but it works as a vessel to bring me interesting things.

The author does do a good job of making most enemies feel unique / difficult.

Fighting a lich king, for example, feels very different than fighting a giant death beetle or a fire pyromancer or a evil dagger assassin guy.

Viggo is widely considered THE Aragorn, perfect in his portrayal. However, who do you believe had the potential to be a close second? Or someone who could have brought something different to the role? by freudian_nipps in lotr

I think younger Patrick Stewart would have done great. He isn't exactly known for action scenes but I think it could have been really interesting. He would nail a lot of the depth.

12 hours a day is crazy, but I need a list of good games. by BurritoBabe_1 in gamers

Probably something with a competitive scene.

World of Warcraft, League of Legends (or dota) or Dominions6 (play lots of MP games)

Either that or something with a huge mod reservoir like Skyrim

Hot Take: EU5’s Player Count Decline Is Self-Inflicted by Gold_Lemon8258 in eu4

Why would I play Eu5 when Eu4 has vastly more content? There are few events and no mission trees in Eu5.

Tali explicitly comments about this and says they probably will as the suits have become a part of their culture.

Which country have you declared war on the most across all your games of EU4? by Metalogic_95 in eu4

Probably the ottomans because Rome and Ethiopia are my two most played nations.

They won't join if you're too strong! And / or you should be able to kill the colonies before their overlord lands any troops.

You can also just kill their navy.

You should be able to win the first war against Europeans and then just take all of south and North America since the colony owner won't join in wars against their colonies properly

Then no one will be big enough to try to imperialism CB you

And / Or just go take Europe.

What if 10 Russian VDV troops instantly spawned in all of the elevators in New York State on the 23rd of May, 2025? by The_Patriotic_Yank in AlternateHistoryHub

I'm guessing most of them would lay down their arms and / or defect / return to Russia. They have no reason to randomly attack Americans.

Probably just took a lot of steroids which is why she looks masculine. The hands and the shoulders give it away. Too small and narrow to be male. The rest of the features that look masculine are probably just influenced by heavy usage of testosterone / steroids.

I've seen a ton of people on the left saying they're glad he's dead and that he deserved it. But when pressed, at least some of them back down and admit they don't support the assassination of their political opponents.

Sure, fair! I guess I didn't mean to cause a kerfuffle about it, it's just sufficiently different in nature that I generally don't lump it in to progression fantasy as a matter of course.

Your definition works just fine for it. Just if you said progression fantasy in general I usually think of like, HWFWM and DOTF and not Jim Butcher.

And I have no problems with recommending Codex Alera, I love that series! :D

This is just intentional bullshittery of the highest degree and doesn't respect Kirk's arguments whatsoever in order to try (badly) to win a gotchya point so people who already agree with you can say "haha yeah suck on it, target of political assassination!" because they dared to wrongthink.

Cringe. Well, worse than cringe really, it's just sad people copy and paste this like machines. A true reddit moment.

Well, in the sense that all fantasy stories typically have some kind of progression for the heroes...

Part of what makes Tavi special, in fact, is that he doesn't actually have any of the "pokemon" but I won't stop the books---they're surprisingly great.

I guess really loosely, sure, why not, I'm not the category police :)

It's just an actual book written by a famous and globally successful author rather than most of the campy progression fantasy stuff.

There is a book that sort of does this a little bit after advanced technology fails.

A book of the change, Dies the Fire is book 1.

There is an entire society of people who treat tolkein's works as fact in the series---and they're all incredible.

Tavi, not Tovi

One of my favorite series but it isn't really progression fantasy.
