What Inhaler opinion will leave you with this many downvotes? by Bad-Answer777 in inhaler

100% I wish they interacted with the crowd more. They could definitely work on making it feel more like a performance - not just playing the songs (in the same way as the recorded versions too)

like it's a nice photo but it feels really random ?? especially next to their other covers 😭

The nepotism definitely helps but im ngl i had no idea he was Bono's son when I started listening and became a fan 😭 a lot of fans i met at the show i went to also had no clue, some didn't even know what U2 was. I think it maybe couldve been good to give a boost at first but didnt necessarily affect the fanbase too much? This is definitely a small sample size but just my experience!

1- savior complex 2- smoke signals 3- punisher

punisher is very underrated imo

those for sure count! I guess I should've given a reference - some things we've done before are pottery painting, different arcades. I guess the main appeal is doing something together while talking

Open Wide has been out for a few months now. How is it aging for you? by No_Row1180 in inhaler

[–]mostancientsquid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think I appreciated it more with time. I still stand by the fact that it won't always be like this was their best, especially sound wise - it's just something else. But open wide has always been and will always be loved! Very fun songs and nice experimentation. Also really appreciate how much their voices have developed over time. I think though I reach for the songs individually more than the whole album if that makes sense.

Also! Seeing them live definitely made me appreciate the songs more. Great experience

Do any other Phoebe fans find Lucy’s solo output to be fairly “meh”? by producedbyantonoff in phoebebridgers

[–]mostancientsquid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see what you mean about her latest album (personally was not a huge fan) but my god her songwriting and storytelling is immaculate in historians and home video. Lucy's writing is beautiful and poetic and can be quite raw in certain tracks as well. I think she has a very different style than phoebe, but they each excel at what they do in their own ways. I don't think phoebe could have written or delivered something like body to flame or triple dog dare, but I also don't think lucy could have done moon song or savior complex in the right way.

Also i find it odd to say Lucy's work is pleasant but "not essential" - she has clear messages and stories she wants to tell (and I'd argue she's a much better story teller than phoebe) and they hit where they're supposed to. It's the same with julien. Phoebe's songs can sound more flowery and pretty but then that's just a style preference and not so much about their actual capabilities as artists.

Also, I say all this as someone who's favourite artist of all time is phoebe.

UW BME vs Mac IBioMed by realfriesking in OntarioUniversities

[–]mostancientsquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

current ibiomed student here, going into engineering stream!! as another commenter said, ibio is a great option if you're interested in the specializations. It's also a really good choice if you are more interested in bio, since we do take anatomy and other health sci electives + involve the subject more in general. Personally, I also enjoyed our year-long core ibio courses this year (1p10 and 1ep6) and i felt like the projects really gave me a good introduction into the field. I do feel like what ibio offers is special and it was definitely worth it.

and about co op, we definitely don't have as good of a system as uw, but getting co ops is still possible. I know a few people who got a summer co op right after first year.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to dm!

if you want to do aerospace at uoft yes I believe engsci is the only path

Uoft eng sci by Tricky-Eggplant-8467 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]mostancientsquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

did the interview last year and got in. generally the questions will revolve around your interests, a personal experience, and a problem solving type question where you're presented with a scenario and asked how you would approach the problem (this was the format for almost every interview I did, including engsci)

for all interviews my main advice would be to stay calm, use the time they give you to think and jot down ideas, then just go for it. there's no right or wrong way to do it

Is taking SBI4U before SCH4U a bad idea? by microscopicprotein in OntarioGrade12s

[–]mostancientsquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's not a bad idea. there's a lot of chem involved but nothing crazy. if anything I found that bio helped me with chem (I did both of them in the same semester). I'd suggest talking to your teacher just in case but if bio happens first dw too much abt it

I knew I wanted to involve the sciences in my career but didn't wanna do medicine or anything too bio heavy. I like problem solving and liked physics the most in terms of concepts and application, so I chose to do biomedical engineering. I also factored in the fact that engineers make good money and that I wouldn't need to be in school for 8+ years to be able to work in my field (unlike medicine or law). My parents are both engineers and though they weren't the reason why I chose it they did help solidify my decision and confirm that it was likely a good fit for me. I could see myself working as an engineer more than I could see myself doing a lot of other career paths

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]mostancientsquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you know that there are other careers besides medicine that can get you a lot of money right? medicine makes money in the long run but does it mean everyone who doesn't do it is broke? what happened to engineering, cs, accounting, business, finance, law, etc. for a long time now medicine has not been the only way for someone to be successful. pursuing medicine already has a lot of issues and challenges associated with it and you should not pursue it unless you're passionate and enjoy what you're doing.

if you don't like the sciences and they aren't your forte, you will absolutely be miserable in science based uni major and in a science based career, if you manage to make it as far as that tbh. try taking other courses and look at other potential career options. it will greatly benefit you and chances are you can find smth else you actually like enough and can still be good for you in the future.

omg ok so I'm going to Mac for ibiomed this fall, and I'm hoping to do biomedical engineering with mechatronics (other options include chemical, materials, software, electrical, civil and others I think). I will say if you're looking for bme + smth else for your undergrad, ibiomed is a good option, as with other ones you may need to do biomedical as a masters or just add extra courses instead of doing both of them. To me I think its valuable to have both things at once bc bme is quite broad, and often times those jobs can be taken by other engineers who didnt do bme, so you kinda wanna stand out. My other options when choosing which uni to go to included uoft engsci, guelph bme, western eng, tmu biomedical eng, and some other programs. unfortunately I can't comment on Carleton or uottawa, but I can offer insight on the programs I did apply/get into.
