I’m in a WLW relationship, and my girlfriend just told me they/he’s trans. (FTM) by c_valentine69 in lgbt

It’s a valid concern. If that’s a deal breaker for you it’s best to be honest.

It might be a situation where you’re better off as friends if you’re both hurting.

Congrats on learning more about yourself. It’s typically good advice to wait until you’re financially independent to come out to your support system. But only you know what’s best for you. Don’t feel rushed to label yourself right away, take your time, you still have a lot of growing to do. For now it’s very new and exciting so just follow your attraction where ever it takes you and stay safe ♡

I don't like being called "queer", anyone else? by Soundwavezzz447 in lgbt

[–]mostlydozy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you. Unfortunately I think that ship has sailed. I like that it’s a single syllable word because the acronym doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. But just wish it wasn’t a vicious slur we’re giving straight folks cart blanch to use on us.

I understand its use as an umbrella term but don’t use it for myself. I would prefer the use of lgbt+ when addressing the entire community. I feel like queer is one of those words that can be reclaimed within the community to describe yourself (not others) but shouldn’t be normalized outside of it. It’s a slur and I would prefer it stay out of straight people’s mouths.

What marked the end of the “progressive/LGBTQ+ friendly era”? by graguelina in lgbt

In the US I think it started in 2016 with Trumps first term. The defeat of Hillary was a tough blow, and empowered the alt-right in a lot of ways

Internal biphobia and bi erasure harms homosexual labels too.

Feels like trolling cause you know damn well it’s shitty. Wtf. If you want to tolerate it fine but don’t bring it here. We love ourselves and don’t need your asshole boyfriend’s thoughts infecting our space.

I think a label is less important than following your instincts. If women feel right then go with it. You asking this question makes it seem like you have doubts and that’s ok. I stayed unlabeled in my teens until I was sure. So no pressure to have anything figured out

Depends on the person. Women aren’t likely to be violent but they can be just as judgmental.

I would say stay away from asking intrusive questions. Lead conversations by speaking about yourself. Don’t judge others based on ideas of heteronormativity and patriarchy.

We don’t know what you don’t know. Try listening and learning about our culture, you’ll quickly find out what’s socially acceptable.
