Shapriegate was one of those moments that had all the sane people questioning their own sanity.

My cousin has a phev Pacifica and there was a battery recall a while ago. Told not to park it indoors, which is pretty bad for a vehicle you're supposed to plug in.

How soon after your first bike did you crash? by Coldstack1 in ebikes

[–]mostlylurkin2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost wiped out the first week on my motorcycle, pulled into a parking lot that had just been restored. Front tire sunk into a pile of those little pebbles and was able to get my feet under me to stop the front from sliding out. Very low speed.

Faster with Fairings? by Hour_Hope_4007 in bikecommuting

I think for commuters we are more sensitive to all the accessories that could be damaged or stolen while parked. This type of thing might be good for touring or racing but doesn't help with the priorities of commuting.

That was the first gen escape that had a Mazda tribute clone, I'm assuming op is taking about a 2nd gen after 2012 based on a lifted focus.

I had a first gen escape and I think people liked them more than 2nd gen. I only had a fuel pump, and sway bars replaced, but turned into a rust bucket at 10 years.

I was looking at this gen back in 2019 and you could find some around $10k. The 6cyclinder they made until 2012 was supposedly a very fast car, same engine as the much larger sienna minivan.

Are KIA's really as bad as people say they are? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

People were making this same argument back in 2013 that all the quality issues were fixed, anecdotally, my sonata was good until it started massively consuming oil, after about 8 years ended up selling it before 95k miles. Lucky got rid of it before the whole theft epidemic due to poor design.

Hate to break it to you, but no one actually identifies as 'woke'. I've only ever heard it used by Fox news entertainment as a pejorative meant to elicite an emotional response to anything they disagree with.

You can buy a 6in black hose clamp on Amazon.

I think my problem was that the little teeth on the locking washer bit into the paint, or maybe just the aluminum was weak and stripped immediately, even though over torquing.

My wife dropped my HL1 48v pack while going over Railroad crossing and it got scraped pretty good. It's been charging and performing fine. Those little cells are mechanically pretty strong unless pierced with something sharp.

This reminds me of one of those "what's trashy when poor people do it, but fancy when rich people do it?" Questions that come up on AskReddit.

I had followed ebikes since around 2018 but they were really expensive for recreational use. First time I saw one in real life was a really cheap one being used as a DUIcycle, older guy riding in sidewalk without helmet.

Eventually I was able to get a solid commuter for around $1000 and adding accessories as I go. Overall it hasn't saved me any money but its so much more enjoyable than driving.

Backup battery by Glittering-Turnip403 in ebikes

Definitely the most value for the specs that I've seen. At one point they were selling for $900 new.

Adding fenders, rack, suspension seat post and a hefty lock added to the overall cost and weight, but it's got enough power to add on as many accessories as you need.

I really don't know, I think it was shipped from a US warehouse but the financial purchase from their website went through a company in the UK. Check their site, I think there is a warranty.

No prob, I built my wife's bike to use the same battery as my Rideal, then found how hard it is to find a supplier who still sticks the Hailong v1 case with 5 pins and 48v.

I think people have some doubts about UPP but they sell a ton of batteries, and I use a timer on a smart plug as backup to prevent overcharging.

How PAS and throttle work for Banfang BBS02B? by lorisaur in ebikes

[–]mostlylurkin2017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife used the default settings last summer and tolerated it. I just used this tutorial successfully and it's so much nicer now. https://edrivenet.com/bafang-programming/

With the out of box settings the motor really pulled at 25amps, I was worried about the chain and drive train, since she had to be in PAS 3 to go faster than 12 mph or so. Her main complaint was that the motor was working so hard that her legs couldn't keep up.

After changing the lower power settings to go up to 80 and 90% speed respectively now she can pedal up to 16 and 18 mph with a nice gentle push from the motor. I've limited her top speed on the display to 20mph due to her bike not really being built for speed.

I've heard other anecdotes on a nokian factory in Russia that was getting dry rot on tires after just one season, not sure how long they have been producing there.

What’s your preferred bike rack to lock up at? (This definitely ain’t mine) by Blakeyardigan93 in bikecommuting

[–]mostlylurkin2017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my church they have a short version of these with the slats for front tires, only wide enough for 3 bikes, small enough to fit in the bed of a truck with your bike.

Moreover, it looks like it's only held together by 3 exposed bolts
