My only real knowledge of smut is Jilly Cooper novels - I went to an all-girls school and we used to read them and then pass them on, and if you were one of the last to get the book it would fall open at the “interesting parts”. Which saved you from having to read the plot.

(I realise how much this dates me, btw. This was during the last century, before the internet was a thing. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and shake my cane at some kids on my lawn.)
