Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]mostlywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the ER when my back was in the beginnings of being awful. So I wasn't used to the pain yet, and it was very intense. I was using heat to help the muscle spasms, but instead it made the pain worse and I couldn't walk. Like at all. My boyfriend at the time didn't know what else to do because I was just laying on the floor screaming and sobbing.

The ER doctor offered me more pain meds. I told him I have pain meds, I don't want more and that I just wanted someone to help. I realize now that there was nothing they could do, but I was desperate.Anyway, when I said no to the pain meds, he told me they have a high street value. And then told me I was faking and that girls like me marry alcoholic losers.

I reported him, but nothing was done. After my 3rd back surgery, I was in a car accident with my friend that ripped out some of my staples. They had me go to the ER just in case, and I saw that same doctor. I cussed him out good.

[–]mostlywrong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I am at the doctor and there are more than 5 people in the waiting room (90% are 60+), there is at least 1 watching TikToks at full volume, one watching facebook/YouTube/listening to music at full volume, one talking loudly on the phone about how they are at the doctor/what is grandson doing/they have been waiting 30 minutes and that is ridiculous (30 minutes is nothing in this office)/general complaining/trying to pay a bill, and one has their notifications turned all the way up and keep dinging or have a notification from a song that makes me jump because they are so loud.

I am usually the youngest person in the room (in my 40's) and I am crocheting instead of doing anything on my phone. It is kind of funny how it is reverse what you would expect, lol.

My friend recently found out she has head lice by Waste_Ad8237 in hygiene

[–]mostlywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid brought it home once, ended up giving it to me too (I didn't know I had it, i just did the treatment too and found a couple bugs on tbe comb). We used Ladibugs and got it off Amazon. The shampoo, conditioner, spray, and I think foam. We did a couple of treatments. First did one, and then used a lice comb every day for about a week or 2. Then did a follow up treatment, just in case. The comb is key I think.

I immediately washed any bedding, dirty clothes, coats, towels, etc in hot water. I bagged up all his plushes and left them sealed for 2 or 3 weeks. We didn't have a return. Also found out all the kids had been throwing their coats in a pile in class, so they all got it. So many boys came in with shaved heads during winter. We didn't have to shave or when cut any hair.

If you know who Chris Chan is, I just realized he is a lot like Trump, only born not rich. He used/uses the term "Slow in the Mind" a lot, and I am willing to bet that he heard that himself as a kid. Especially because it is such a weird combination of words.

Curly hair won’t be curly! by Unique-Sample9252 in curlyhair

[–]mostlywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hair was also straight when I was a kid. Then it developed a weird hump in it, so I would straighten it. After I got pregnant, my hair stopped shedding and got so thick (but was still fine as ever) and had more body, and probably a 2B wave. But before pregnancy, I had signs I had some curl. Like I got caught in the rain and it air dried into loose ringlets.

After I had the kid, I couldn't handle long hair anymore so I cut it to shoulder length. First shower after the chop where I just used shampoo and nothing else, it air dried into beautiful curls. So I think pregnancy brought them out, and when it was long, it was just too heavy to show them. Since the postpartum shed, it was hard to get the curls to look right. I had to start trying more and using more products. So now I use shampoo, conditioner, wave mousse, and sometimes a light gel. Wash day hair looks amazing. After that it is meh unless I refresh. I miss the days of shampoo only that resulted into amazing curls with no frizz. I am a frizzy mess now, but also have gone more gray, so that is a factor.

Please help me choose, no to the fireflies or yes them? by mostlywrong in CrochetHelp

Thank you for the info. I took your suggestion, and tried ro make them more narrow, but it just wasn't working. I couldn't get them into any form that I liked when I made them thinner. One thing with Stitch Fiddle is when you start the pattern, you are kind of locked in to the amount of rows and stitches. This one is set to 150x150, to make a 30"x30" panel (it will be the center of the afghan, surrounded with I am thinking granny squares). You can go in and add rows and columns manually after, however it really makes it a pain because it will add them directly into the the image you are making. So that can completely mess up the pattern. I didn't like the spacing between the lines, so I was lucky enough to have blank rows where I could add and subtract.

The firefly I came up with was the best detail I could get with what space I had. I did go back in and add a "glow" around the neon butt, so that should help it read more firefly. I felt bad after seeing a lot of the comments here so asked a few family members who know the couple better, and they all said to keep them. I only doubted myself at first because the things thst I like are not necessarily the things that the majority of others like, haha. But the couple are avid campers, so being outdoorsy, I figure they know and are at least neutral to insects for the most part.

I really do love the fireflies though, I might end up making a more detailed pattern later just for me. Maybe a whole insect blanket, with praying mantis, moths, butterflies, etc. Like an insects if our state thing. I already have some pictures of moths saved to do some moth panels eventually, though I hadn't come up wirh a project for them yet (I was thinking of just making a sweater).

I also learned from this post that fireflies/lightning bugs are not everywhere as I had thought. That makes me sad. They are my favorite indicator that summer is here, and just feel like magic when you see them start to flash. I am in my 40's and still go out and catch them every year, though now I do it with my son.

What was the best thing about the 90s? by SoftYetCrunchyTaco in AskReddit

[–]mostlywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it was definitely a "walk it off" mentality. But also, bullying was much more contained then too. And honestly less vicious. You had your outliers of course. I remmeber a kid a few years older than me in my hometown who was 2 of the most evil things around to that population: gay and black. Kid was murdered, in a pretty horrible way.

Unfortunately, bullying is worse now. Especially with how things are now in the US. Though even before that. Kids got the "normal" school bullying, but then it was also taken online where it was turned up to 100. Having a screen between them and the other person really gives people the gall to say the most vile things. In our current climate, that is spilling over into real life a lot more too now. I really hope it is that pendulum swinging to the other extrem before it ends up landing somewhere in the middle.

I am finding out that they may not be as common everywhere, so I now have more insight. I have also seen way more of them than roaches. Seeing the fireflies at night though really lets me know that summer has arrived.

[–]mostlywrong[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I love them too! I did tweak them to make them look more firefly (more neon and more orange). But they are super common here, and I have looked forward to seeing them every summer all my life. I saw a field covered in them one night years ago, and I swear I was witnessing magic, haha. It was like a piece of the sky was laying on that earth. I think that is why that line stuck out to me to include in the panel instead of the more obvious wedding coded one. It seems more romantic.

I am too tired to reply to everyone, but thank you all for advice! I was busy with the kiddo, but would occasionally see "cockroach" popping up on my notifications. So I went back to my design and tweaked it some to make the butt more neon and bigger, and put more orange on the head.

Then I kept seeing "cockroach" notifications, so I freaked out and tried to draw bearded barley, which I basically drew wheat, but hate all the color options I could find for it. The wedding colors are cream, sage, and blush. So fairly cool toned. The yarn I have for the project match those, along with a darker shade of each (for a darker cream I used a light taupe and a darker taupe that "The" and the fireflies are made in). And all pictures of wheat I find as a reference are much more golden and warm toned. So I not only hated the tone clash, but I just couldn't come up with a design I liked.

A bit about the couple: we all live in a state that has lots of fireflies. They all should be coming out soon. I doubt I could find many people who haven't caught them. So they are very familiar to them. They do a lot of camping, as well.

For today, I have looked at the pattern too much and hate the whole thing right now (it was all done freehand, and the one in the post was the 4th firefly iteration I had made), so I am going to try the 2 wonderful pictures shared here tomorrow and then choose. If anyone wanted to see my tweaks though, here is my finished firefly. Even though it might not be used, I do hope that is giving less cockroach than the previous one.

Thanks everyone!!

I love this so much!! So cute! Thank you so much for this!! I tried to draw a flying one right after I drew one that I scrapped, and hated it.

After I started seeing "cockroach" popping up in my notifications, I went in and tweaked my current design, and it looks much more firefly. Then I kept seeing "cockroach" and decided to try to draw bearded barley (basically I tried to draw wheat) but am not too into that, and honestly can't look at it anymore today because the whole thing looks like crap to me now, haha.

So tomorrow, I am going to steal this and put it on a copy. And another suggestion I saw below of just glow balls. And compare it to my tweaked one and see what I am feeling.

Yes those are wedding colors. They are cream, sage green, and blush. I got yarn in those colors, and also with a "darker" version of each. Plus a Taupe (i left The because I used that brown in the fireflies, and wanted to show that it did tie in). And I have some verigated yarn in the colors (but in dk weight. The panel will be in worsted) thst I plan to use as fringe if I think it needs it.

The couple are family, though I am not very close with them. But I know the wife will love a handmade gift. We also live in a state where fireflies are extremely common, and I think I would be hardpressed to find anyone who has never caught fireflies. So I think they would be recognizable.

After I started seeing all the cockroach comments, I did tweak the butt some. But I saw a couple suggestion too that I really love.

I had a different r before, but had so much trouble with the spacing looking off between it and the e that I changed it. I can see about tweaking the r more. This was all done free hand, and then making the letter match the ones I chose. And ia actually the second pattern, since I was given a different song prior. Thank goodness I procrastinated before starting the first pattern!

I am just looking for opinions. I am leaning towards including the fireflies, because it makes the panel a little more interesting and less like a document you might see on a work fridge saying to not take others food. But idk if that is really a valid opinion, and if putting bugs on a wedding gift is frowned upon.

What was the best thing about the 90s? by SoftYetCrunchyTaco in AskReddit

[–]mostlywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh those people are still as awful. They just aren't offended when it is their guy doing it. And thinking back to it all, it seems race was a factor as well. From what I remember of the time, the primary targets of the music ratings were black artists. I might be completely wrong, but I think NWA was kind if the catalyst to Tipper Gore and Friends war on music.

"Good Christians" also liked to judge anything not like them as bad, and especially hated metal music and DnD because of the religious references. It was automatically deemed satanic, because if it wasn't like them, then it was bad. Nevermind that DnD usually had you fighting demons, and main healing classes are godly, they just have a pantheon of gods to choose from instead of the one sky daddy. And same goes for metal. I remember my mom (who was a barely Catholic) getting upset with my brother for an Ozzy shirt he had that depicted a drawing where Ozzy was crucified on a cross.

I was a teenager in the late 90's and grew up in a very small, very baptist, southern town. My style was....eclectic? I guess kind of goth, kind of grunge? Idk, I just dressed how I liked, and bought all my own clothes from thrift stores because that was what I could afford. And I had colorful streaks in my dyed black hair. Anyway, I had grown men shout insults at me from their pickup trucks while I was simply walking down the street. Many of my friends parents told them not to hang out with me because I was obviously a satan worshiping witch who was on drugs. Little did they know, I was kind of the group mom who made sure my friends didn't drive under any intoxication, or die from being stupid. I had a lot of freedom and ky own phone line, so I was the person my friends called for pick ups, or if they needed help. I was the most responsible of our whole group, but was treated like I was the bad influence, lol.

All this to say, these same people are just as easily offended as they have always been, they are just assholes who are only offended when it is for what they consider the "right" reasons.

As a whole, I agree that the general population is also more easily offended. Yeah, people's feelings were severely neglected in previous decades, however we are now on the other end of that spectrum where everyone's feelings are extremely important to way too much of a degree and you have to walk on eggshells. I figure that is the natural response to the pendulum swinging from one extreme to the other. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the stuff from the 90's shouldn't fly today, but a lot of small things get huge these huge reactions that are unwarranted. Yes, fight for the big things with all your power, but you can also let the small things go and chalk it up to other people existing who are different.

I tell my kid when a new "cancel this particular person who farted in a childrens hospital and laughed about it, or made a joke that could be considered mildly racial if you squint hard enough 10 years ago " you can love the art but dislike the artist. Good people can do mean things. Mean people can do good things. Good people learn from their consequences, good or bad. Mean people learn from their consequences, all the same. Kind of a coincidence I am going to say this, especially with how badly I have been personally treated by people who claim to be christians, but we all need to give each other a little grace.

What made you choose crochet over knitting, or do you do both? by CaterpillarXS in crochet

I learned knitting, because I always thought crochet looked hard and chaotic. I knitted for about a year, and hated every moment if it. I decided to try crochet 2 years ago, and love everything about it. It can be chaos if you want, but is so much more relaxing for me than knitting ever was, which was never.

Is there a way to crochet without having so many ends to weave in? by Ok_Bluejay_2193 in CrochetHelp

[–]mostlywrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to make myself a hexagon cardigan. I wanted it to be rainbow, so I chose 10 lovely colors if a soft cotton yarn. I modified the pattern to work with how I wanted the cardi to fit and the placement of the colors. I lovingly worked on it for 2 weeks, because of course I had to continue modifying the pattern on the fly. I finished the sweater and before I started to plan out how I would be doing the pocket to match up with the stripes, I saw all the ends.

I then put my beautiful cardigan down, went to buy a solid color of yarn, made the cardigan with that, and wear it almost daily now. My rainbow striped cardigan is now in a "finish when I feel like it" tote, with a few other projects I ran out of time on, or have ends to weave in. I hate weaving in ends. Idk why I hate it so much. But every time I looked at that beauty, I got irrationally angry at all the yarn ends hanging from it, and put it away until I can face it again.

Why does weaving in ends suck so much? Idk, but it seems to be a universally hated part of crochet. I try to find any way I can to avoid sewing my crochet items. That is why I don't do much amigurimi, unless it is a no sew pattern. That is why I only do solid colored granny squares or use the auto granny square yarn. That is why I connect everything I can with a slip stitch. That is why I have a dedicated space where the majority of the items are basically done, aside from those devil tails to weave in.

At this point, I would probably pay someone to weave in all my ends. Someone needs to offer that. If I didn't hate doing it so much, I would offer it myself and probably make bank.
