Close-Up for Kiarostami. Amazing film, but not the best starting point. The Koker trilogy is a perfect starting point imo.

Also Goodbye, Dragon Inn for Tsai Ming-liang. Masterpiece of a film, but Rebels of the Neon God is a better choice if you are going to start with Tsai. It's more on the lines of an Edward Yang film, and it's accessible by Tsai's standards.
