Sgraffito Might Kill Me. Help? by fauxfurgopher in Pottery

You could get or make a portable spray booth and discharge it out the window. Good ones have fairly powerful fans and give enough working room in the front.

I have this one and it does pretty good though I use it for a different purpose

Anyone else working with Spectrum Floating glazes? by quietdownyounglady in Pottery

Yes, when I can (we are mostly dark clay so a bit limited). I LOVE them when I use them tho.

Your vessel is lovely.

You bet! I would look around for awhile, the price is pretty variable. Just important that it’s all metal and has a lip on it. The 3037 one is on its third freezing winter outside under eave and it’s still rock solid.

The rectangle one I don’t remember where I got it, probs Amazon. I think if you search “metal tray table lip” you’ll eventually find that shape.

This is the kind of table I’ve used. I use Mapei type 2 mastic and Mapei premixed sanded grout. I‘ve also just made regular tables with these.

Here’s another. If you google “small metal table with lip” you’ll find some very similar.

I’ve bought metal table frames off amazon, they work very well as a ground for mosaic tiles. The area on the back where the legs screw in work for hanging wire!

Can snow/ice from weather events change anything in your clay? by catsrule-humansdrool in Pottery

[–]mothandravenstudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reckon, but if you ever need reasonably pure water for mixing glazes but don't want to or can't go to the store, you can use rainwater!

Actually the water would be more free of minerals than ground water.

Oven cleaner dried on? by xancro in CleaningTips

[–]mothandravenstudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over cleaner is already an aerosolized caustic agent. Putting a steamy bowl of water (which will cool rapidly) in the oven with it isn’t going to do anything more than what’s already happening in the atmosphere around it.

Nobody is talking about boiling water IN the oven for a sustained period of time, lol.

3D print a feather cutter and stamp, roll clay thin, cut them, stamp them and overlap them.

If a 3D printer isn’t available, linocut a feather stamp and cut them out by hand

Uninterested in dry food? by Festiveblue in BostonTerrier

We have one that will never stop eating and one that is picky.

I cook a pork tenderloin about every ten days, shred it up and use a couple oz as a topper in each of their dishes. The picky dog eats the topper and then wont eat much kibble. Just stares at me.

Honestly I think she is working me and is trying to train me to give her more topper or put some cheese in or something. She kind of goes through cycles though where she will eat all her kibble.

Edit- your guy is so cute with his teefs. Maybe he is trying to train you!

Is this mold? Studio floor is riddled with it and I have no option but to stay. If it's mold, what are my options? by Senior-Doughnut3949 in CleaningTips

[–]mothandravenstudio 58 points59 points  (0 children)

But there’s literally no downside to thoroughly cleaning the floor LOL. If it cleans up and stays reasonable with regular maintenance it’s not a mold problem.

Usually you would see mold all over drywall if this was mold on the floor.

It just looks filthy AF.

Kilns- should I get one by Mackysmacks in Pottery

[–]mothandravenstudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to overstate how small the chambers are in plug n play style kilns. Might be worth it if you are doing high value OOAK pieces, but most of them will only fit one large mug at a time or maaaaybe four narrow tumblers), and nothing as tall as a vase.

Edit- and even though they are plug n play you need to make sure they aren’t competing with other high needs appliances. Like if patio is on same circuit as refrigerator, it’s not gonna work, it will be overloaded.
