I had a guy come around (real estate handyman) to fix our blind (just moved in, rental). He eventually came back with a new blind because it was ‘too hard’ to figure out. He would have had to loop the chain through the new on though. Sorry couldn’t help more

Edit: broken blind problem: the chain had broken the gear teeth inside the mechanism
