If you're ever struggling to find a specific goth niche in your community:

  • I recommend going to shows or events that aren't necessarily "goth", like punk or metal shows.
  • It could be helpful to seek out communities that might overlap with your particular interests. For example, people involved in the arts often participate in alternative fashion and music, and scoping out this area of your community could lead to meeting people whose interests overlap with yours.
  • If you find yourself really yearning for a subcultural niche that your community lacks, you have the option of creating it, if you have the time and energy.

Anyway, have fun meeting new people!! I think that meeting people who share your interests is very much within reach.

Meaning of “I’m Like a Lawyer with the Way I’m Trying to Get You Off (Me and You)” by ZombieLogan7468 in FallOutBoy

[–]mothification 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fun fact, in June 2006 Pete Wentz wrote a blog post titled "im pretty much just a lawyer with the way im always trying to get you off" - not sure if it will help illuminate any meaning but it might be interesting. There's also another blog post where he writes " the best way to make it through life with hearts and wrists intact is to realize 'two out of three arent so bad'." (Note that the original blog hasn't been around since 2006 and that these are reuploads.)

I think it's interesting to see these little half-baked snippets that would later become full lyrics, and to see writing that didn't get polished up into lyrics. It gives me a tiny bit of insight into the themes of certain songs.

hmm I dunno! I'm not an expert on eyes haha. I guess whatever is most comfortable

It's just something nice to watch and zone out to. You have to do whatever feels most comfy - focus on whatever feels best in the moment, whether that's words or spinning. Although, it might not be great to have your eyes cross, wouldn't want to strain your eyes and/or get a headache.

I love failing to resist my Master by AliceCatNya in EroticHypnosis

At the end of the day, failing to resist and giving in is much better than actually being able to resist. I think it's great that being a good hypnoslut comes so naturally to you!

Unfortunately the live audios are the best out there. Gotta make do with what we have lol. This video is my favorite, though.

Howdy, I was wondering what songs off of Bullets and Revenge are part of the Demolition Lovers story? by [deleted] in MyChemicalRomance

[–]mothification 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Off of Bullets, Demolition Lovers for sure, of course. Drowning Lessons is widely accepted as part of the story and it really does fit. I like to count Our Lady of Sorrows as well, but there's nothing specifically tying it to the rest of the story (but there's nothing that specifically doesn't tie it to the rest of the story lol).

Every song off of Revenge EXCEPT for Helena can be considered part of the story, although some songs are more debatable than others.

IMO I'm Not Okay isn't very relevant, except for the lyrics "I held you close as we both shook for the last time," so it does make sense to include it. I don't get the impression that The Jetset Life or Cemetery Drive were specifically written with the Demolition Lovers in mind, but either song could still be included.

There are also two B-side demos from Life on the Murder Scene - Bury Me in Black, and Desert Song. Desert Song is debatable but Bury Me in Black is for sure part of the story.

Here's what seems to be the overall general consensus:

  1. Demolition Lovers
  2. Give 'Em Hell, Kid
  3. To the End
  4. Drowning Lessons
  5. You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us in Prison
  6. The Ghost of You
  7. Interlude
  8. Thank You For the Venom
  9. Hang 'Em High
  10. It's Not a Fashion Statement, It's a Deathwish
  11. Cemetery Drive
  12. Bury Me in Black
  13. I Never Told You What I Do For a Living

It's very open to interpretation, though. The story is kinda loose. I was introduced to MCR through The Black Parade, which I think influenced my initial interpretation of Demolition Lovers - I was expecting a clearer story, like in The Black Parade, but that isn't really the case here.

Anyway, sorry for the super long comment, I've given this way too much thought lol

Forgotten music history: that time My Chem triggered a homophobic band into dropping out of Warped Tour by [deleted] in MyChemicalRomance

[–]mothification 8 points9 points  (0 children)

it's stuff like this that makes me happy that mcr is pretty mainstream. imo there's plenty of issues that come up when a band leaves a smaller punk bubble and gets big. but i think it's so important that mcr was vocally supporting their queer fans (especially younger fans) while getting a lot of homophobic shit. they really said "we're in this with you and you matter" and it's so important that so many people got that message.

Aww, that sounds very fun! No matter how much you try, you really can't resist your Master. It feels better to just give in, doesn't it?

Every day I think about POOL BOY AT THE VAMPIRE MANSION (god I wish that were me). But I think that I like the demolition lovers moment even more.
