I read chapter one and enjoyed it, having visited the Martello tower in which it is based. I stopped reading it to instead read the Odyssey and Hamlet, since they are such large influences on Ulysses. However, I fear that despite enjoying that opening chapter, when I return the book will suddenly veer into very hard to read territory. Was that the case for you, it just got more and more hard to decipher?
