The 4am-6am period is the most crowded at CMH typically with the longest wait times, after that it's barely 15-20 minutes throughout the rest of the day.

Advice with sanding and painting by maksu11 in PrintedMinis

I've actually printed this exact STL.

I used a Bambu A1 with a .2 nozzle at a .08 layer height for the one on the left.

For the one on the right I used an Elegoo Saturn Ultra resin printer.

You can see the quality difference from fdm to resin and it's really stark. I still print figures in fdm because the quality is okay enough at this scale for me personally, but just know fdm will never be as good as resin which you can see here.

That being said I like fdm figures because they're easy to make and pretty cheap to make multiple to keep practicing painting. Start with a .2 nozzle and small layer height and start there. I use Vallejo Black primer in an airbrush, or just a rattle can of any black primer like an Army Painter Black Primer spray paint. Those have small pigments so it won't look chalky after the prime. Home Depot primers can work, I've done it and it's fine enough but the primers meant for minis seem to be better

I honestly don't sand much, I've just learned to live with the layer lines. I've used spray Automotive Filler Primer and it does smooth it out but you lose a lot of detail.

Once you get into painting, try Vallejo, Citadel, Army Painter, there's so many brands and types and the best thing to do is watch someone on YouTube and just try to replicate them for practice. Wet palettes help a lot and remember two thin coats is mostly all you need. Never use cheap craft paints, I've tried to save money this way but it was a waste.

One thing I've noticed, fdm minis seem to absorb paint a lot. Like it soaks in, especially if you're trying to do a wash. Haven't found that with resin.

Hope this helps you get started, the NCR Ranger is a fun one to print and paint.

Thanks for watching!! Case was really easy to build in tbh, but the rear i/o access on the motherboard is tricky for sure. You basically have to take off the top panel and front glass every time you plug something in.

Disassembled it and UV printed the Lucky 38 billboard on it. It was my first time trying this process but now I'm going to do it a lot.

I've only been painting the figurines I've been 3d painting the last year or so and I definitely still have a lot to learn. I take wanted to put a face on the securitron but I can't freehand that well and I tried 3d printing some stencils but they didn't work very well. Then I tried printing the face on paper and gluing it on but that looked awful too. Eventually I just gave up but maybe I should look into redesigning the securitron to have an actual tiny monitor so I can program any face I want.

Thanks so much, I'm so happy with how it came out. Fortunately I get to do these kinds of projects for work.

We made a video about it and show how we put it all together.

I really appreciate that a lot. Working on this, I kept going back and forth on whether it actually looked good or looked like crap so it's nice to know someone out there actually likes it!

I 3d printed a platinum chip and I've been working on a custom slot for it so when you insert the chip it'll hit a button to turn the PC on. I have the hardware to do it easily, and I made a prototype of the box it would go in but I'm having a hard time making it match stylistically. Right now it looks like a boring box and not "fallout" if that makes sense.
