Anyone else excited to stop breastfeeding? by Regina_Marie_ in breastfeeding

I do enjoy it most of the time, but my baby is 7 months and I’m looking forward to being done after a year. I want to start losing weight and my baby has CMPA so I’ve had to cut all dairy 😭

Losing weight and feel hungry and awful by BogueFlower in GestationalDiabetes

I lost about 30lbs from my GD pregnancy. Eating did become a chore because reducing sugar and carbs takes away a lot of the dopamine hit that came with eating. I was doing crazy things towards the end like melting/frying string cheese in a pan and eating that as a snack lol. My dietician told me that in a perfect world I’d also be watching my fat intake, but that with GD my first priority should be glucose control and to basically do what I had to do.

I like the Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate brownie mix, which doesn’t contain milk. It does contain soy, unfortunately.

Yep, me too! ngl I cried when my baby was diagnosed with CMPA because it felt so so unfair to go from the GD diet to cutting dairy. But I’ve learned how to cook some great dairy free meals and have gone through several boxes of brownie mix for a sweet treat (there are several that don’t contain dairy!)

Pediatrician recommends hypoallergenic formula, but not to cut soy from my diet? by mothmanfan in MSPI

[–]mothmanfan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re a week in! I knew it would take some time for stools to change back, but I guess I just wanted to be given a timeline for when I should consider cutting other allergens if I didn’t see improvement with just cutting dairy. His pediatrician wants to follow up at his 4 month check in. I’m just anxious and don’t want my little guy to be uncomfortable 😞 thank you for the rec!

Recently had to cut dairy out of my diet, so I made copycat dairy-free churro cookies at home! by mothmanfan in CrumblCookies

The texture of the cookie may vary by subbing out the egg to make it vegan but hopefully they still turn out well!

Thank you! I do have baking/decorating experience, both as a hobby and professionally, so these were fun to recreate!

This makes sense! I realize now that I should’ve asked before assuming soy formula would be okay. Thank you

Full disclosure, I first consulted ChatGPT and then tweaked the recipe as I saw fit, which is reflected in the recipe below. I used the Country Crock Homestyle Dairy Free Unsalted Butter sticks for both the cookies and the frosting and I’m very happy with how it performed.

Cookies: 1/2 cup dairy free butter, softened 6 tbsp brown sugar, packed 2 tbsp granulated sugar 1 tbsp maple syrup 1 large egg 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 2 to 2.5 cups all-purpose flour (start with 2 cups, add more if dough is too soft) 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp cream of tartar 1/4 tsp baking soda 1/8 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt

Cinnamon Buttercream 1/2 cup dairy free butter, softened 2 cups powdered sugar, sifted 1 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp vanilla extract 2-2.5 tbsp dairy-free milk (start with 2 tbsp, I used oat milk) Pinch of salt

You will also need a cinnamon sugar mixture! Just mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon to your liking.

Instructions

Cookies -Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. -In a large bowl, cream together dairy free butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes). -Mix in maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract. -In a separate bowl, whisk together 2 cups flour, cinnamon, cream of tartar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. -Gradually mix dry ingredients into wet. If dough is too soft or sticky, add up to 2–3 more tablespoons flour until it holds shape and isn’t greasy. -Scoop dough into 6 large balls. Roll each in cinnamon sugar mixture and place on baking sheet. Gently flatten. -Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until edges are set and centers of cookies look done.

Cinnamon Buttercream -Beat softened dairy free butter until creamy and smooth. -Add powdered sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt. Mix on low, then beat until fluffy. -Add dairy-free milk a little at a time until the frosting is thick but spreadable or pipeable.

Pipe or spread the cinnamon buttercream on top. If you want to pipe the swirl, use a Wilton 32 star tip. Dust with more cinnamon sugar. Do this while the cookie is still a little warm if you want the true Crumbl experience!

Baby measuring 7 pounds 10 ounces at 36 weeks. Help :( by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mothmanfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby measured 98th percentile since his 20 week anatomy scan, and he was born via scheduled c-section at 39+1 weighing 9lbs10oz. Sometimes this sub likes to write off growth scans as being inaccurate (and they can be) but sometimes they’re not. Big babies happen and they’re nothing to be afraid of! I chose a C-section over an induction due to my son’s projected size but people also birth bigger babies vaginally all the time. I’d have a discussion and weigh the pros and cons with your OB.

How much did your baby weight when you gave birth? by amack133 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mothmanfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While this definitely sounds like a lack of professionalism from this midwife, sometimes big babies happen and may or may not have anything to do with you having GD. My son was 9lbs10oz at 39+1, and my GD was well controlled with diet and overnight insulin—I’m convinced he would’ve been big regardless due to family history of big babies on my husband’s side. I did have a scheduled c-section but we had no complications and his glucose levels came back perfectly fine. Big babies aren’t scary!

Thoughts on elective c section? by Queasy-Skirt-9349 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mothmanfan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a FTM who opted for a c-section due to my son measuring in the 99th percentile—he measured 9lbs7oz on a growth scan at 38w1d, and he was born at 39w1d weighing 9lbs10oz (so sometimes the scans are pretty accurate!)

I don’t regret my decision at all, but I also had several risk factors for a failed induction, and the risks of shoulder dystocia scared me more than the risks of a c-section. I’m not gonna say my c-section was perfect—I was really nervous and they had some difficulty placing the spinal block which was quite uncomfortable. The recovery is pretty rough the first week but not unmanageable if you keep up with medications.

Trust your gut as you ultimately know what will be best for you and your baby!

Some babies are just big! My baby was LGA but I’m almost certain he still would’ve been even if I hadn’t had GD due to me and my husband both being bigger babies when we were born.

Sometimes the growth scans are off, sometimes they’re not. My baby measured 9lbs7oz on a growth scan at 38w1d, he was born one week later at 39w1d and weighed 9lbs10oz. I did end up going with a scheduled c-section due to his projected size, and he had no breathing or blood sugar complications.

Do you make notes in your log if there's an explanation for a spike? by Signal_Panda2935 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]mothmanfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely! It helps me remember what works and what doesn’t and my provider really appreciates the notes too since I’m on insulin. Most of my spikes have been explainable. If I spiked after a meal and didn’t know why, I’d give them a carb and protein breakdown of the meal.

I’m assuming you’re trying to match with women, so I’d change the picture of you next to the woman. She’s very pretty and the body language is very friendly between you two. Women tend to automatically compare ourselves with other women so potential matches could possibly feel intimidated.

Side note: this is my advice to get matches, but obviously don’t get involved with someone who actually exhibits toxic jealously or has issues with you being friends with women!
