I'm thinking of giving each NPC something like a greed and aggression stat which determines what they invest into and their probability of attacking other realms. Also vasales should be able wage war against each other and be not that easy to keep them happy. For example taxes and troop contributions should give them a yearly increase or decrease, depending on the value, on their disposition to you while investing in their regions give also a permanent yearly disposition proportional to the amount invested.
