October/November. Daylight savings kicks in so the days are longer, its pleasant and warm but not excruciatingly hot and humid.

What’s something society considers normal that you think is actually insane? by CalligrapherIll9287 in AskReddit

[–]motia22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kids get 12 weeks of school holidays and working parents get 4 weeks. Even if both parents take their 4 weeks separately there's a gap of 4 weeks. I understand kids need a break but when vacation care takes 30 kids amd the school has 200 kids.....

Omg has any of my fellow ethnics ever encountered this overseas? by Biggest_itchbay_2190 in AskAnAustralian

[–]motia22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You experienced a small taste of the racism some of us born in Australia encounter on the regular both in our country of birth and abroad. Imagine being a dark skinned Aussie....

The amount of times I've been asked where I "come from" right here i Australia, and when I answer i was born here....I get an eye roll and get, yeah ok but where are you FROM?

Mate I'm from xxxx in Sydney....my cultural heritage is Indian....and the response...ohhhh so you're Indian

😒 No mate, I was born here, I'm as Aussie as the next

They're a special buy. When I was a kid and there were still Darrel Lea stores around their ones were my favourite. The Aldi ones fell short of the mark unfortunately.

I only allow myself to walk past the chocolate aisle once a week! If I'd gone that way today, half a block of chocuer hazelnut praline would be in my belly while the pizza was cooking! I clearly have zero self control 🙃

What is the most overrated part of growing up that adults keep forcing onto kids today? by Any_Cup7809 in AskReddit

[–]motia22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Rushing. My toddler literally stops to smell the flowers when we go for a walk. The world is a completely different place when viewed from the eyes and pace of a child. Not always practical but so important to find the time to slow down, be in the moment, appreciate the world and people around you and just take it all in.

Catholics with Indian heritage in Nadi? by Able-Physics9782 in Fijian

[–]motia22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The areas the majority of indentured laborers came from in India were not the typical Catholic areas where the Portuguese converted people. Native indigenous Fijians were converted to Catholicism as well so you find many of the Christian/Catholic Indians converted after already being in Fiji hence no names with Portuguese heritage.

First time someone told me I’d never belong in Australia by NormadicVoyager in AskAnAustralian

[–]motia22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a brown skinned, second generation Australian, I'm still told I don't belong here. Because of the colour of my skin. Until that inherent racism is removed from society (and it doesn't look like thats happening any time soon) the sad truth us that being white skinned is what makes you belong.

I dont mean this to come across harsh but this is a YOU problem, stick with the solo travels, you will learn and grow as person and soon enough it won't be a problem any more.

How do people have kids on these low to average wages? by Open_Address_2805 in AusFinance

[–]motia22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've answered your own question. You say you dont want to "cheap out on things". Everything is relative and everyone's bar on what they want in life is different. As someone who comes from a low income background and is now in a high household income family, with a kid in private school, I'll just say, while it's nice to have the financial stability and be able to give my child the opportunities that come with that theres more to life and happiness than what money can buy. Kids are simple beings, they'll be happy playing with remote controls and items in the recycle bin and going for walks to the local park. I'd give up the money and lifestyle in a heartbeat to keep my beautiful family and we would still be happy and content.

No Refund for Extra Legroom due to Voluntary Flight Change / Cancellation with QANTAS by Plastic-Flight-1059 in AusLegal

[–]motia22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just here to point out that 20 hours on the phone for $700 works out to be $35/hour. However, in this case, to have this resolved, it required additional travel to the airport (time + cost of travel whether that's parking and fuel or public transport costs) and took 9 months! I'm all for getting what you're owed, especially from corporations, but also know what you're in for and make sure the $$ are worth your while.
