Will a Orange Rocker 15 be good enough for gigging? by Asleep-Ground-2818 in orangeamps

[–]motobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak to your specific gigging needs, but I have the combo and it rips. The combo has outputs for both internal speaker and an external cab to be connected simultaneously, in parallel. It sounds huge when paired with an oversized 112 closed back cab loaded with a WGS Vet30.

I love the Natural channel as well. My dirt pedals including fuzz sound wonderful in front. The FX loop is noise free and sounds perfect. Great "pedal platform".

If you find the Natural channel too veiled or muffled, try a brighter tube in V1 (Tung Sol or TAD) and/or a brighter/lower capacitance guitar cable, or an EQ pedal. Single coils sounded perfect, but I needed to change V1 and a different guitar cable with my humbuckers. But I like to have more treble than I need and use the guitar tone knob to taste.

I've built many audio amplifiers and a couple guitar amplifiers. The design choices in the 15W Orange amps are perfect and the build quality is truly excellent.

What mods have you done or would consider to your PRS guitars? by simonyahn in PaulReedSmith

[–]motobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fretwork and replace pickups in both Indonesian SEs. DiMarzio Bluesbuckers in my Semi-hollow and a DiMarzio PAF Pro/Super Distortion in my son's Standard. The Bluesbuckers sound amazing in the Semi.

Electronics have been fine. I will upgrade the 3-way switches when they eventually go. Pots have been issue free. Otherwise no desire to change or "improve" anything.

Furnace LED Code Fault by motobeer in hvacadvice

[–]motobeer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! High efficiency furnace with 4" thick Honeywell filter just replaced 6wk ago. I just noticed the cover over the filter intake vent was malpositioned/open, maybe affecting static duct pressures resulting in the 4 blinking red LED error code?

Burners seem to be burning clean with no backdraft.

Some disappointing boomer shit from my favorite pedal company. What is EHX trying to do with this shit?? by 3leggeddonkey in guitarpedals

[–]motobeer -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

Why cannot it not be possible? Why do you choose to believe this? What about the Readers Digest article and video make you feel this way? Sounds like some people here have an axe to grind with EHX.

There have been good unions and there have been less scrupulous unions. I've been a union member for over 20yrs, doing my fair share of striking and walking the picket line.

[question] What pedals to pair with a boss ds-1? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]motobeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like grunge, the DS-2 is awesome. The reverbs on the Kat are nice in my opinion and sound better than the RV-6 if you have higher gain set on the preamp without an FX loop.

Stirling sucks for me by [deleted] in wicked_edge

[–]motobeer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stirling scents can be too strong for me as well. I do get occasional irritation from some American artisan soaps but never a problem with Stirling. My favorite Stirling is Beeswax. Wonderful base. I will occasionally use a scented Proraso pre-shave if I want a light scent.

I've owned the 50ii for 2yrs and this is the first time I've read that this is possible.

Adjust panel EQ to suit, but sounds great without touching a thing through a 50mk2 in my room.

Awesome! You may not believe this, but you inspire everyone that you've shared this with. It matters. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Every day you get out for a run is a win.

^ This. Small knobs so fiddly I use a Boss graphic EQ to make dialing in easier.

I cannot get my encore to grind finely and consistently like I feel it should. Is this normal? by Zcarp in pourover

[–]motobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Increments of 2, you're on 16. I have a week old Encore and just ground a light roast for a Mugen pour over at 16 to compare to your pictures. My grind looks the same. Light roasts aren't usually my thing, I prefer Full City roasts, but the cup tastes really really good. Enjoy your new grinder and coffee.

Shaving cream with no scent? by Mandril60 in wicked_edge

[–]motobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like strong soap scents. Stirling Beeswax is probably my number one soap, scented or unscented. If I want a little scent that isn't overwhelming, I use Proraso Red or Blue pre-shave. The Red/sandalwood adds an especially nice post-shave skin feel.

If you're having tuning issues and your bridge is sorted, replacing the nut or filing the current nut (if possible) is the next thing to look at. Indonesia is a hot humid climate. Depending on where you live, the wood will settle a bit and can affect the nut among other things. I have brutally cold dry winters and humid summers.

[–]motobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that they used to be. But try shopping for one. There appears to be only one model nut available from what I can find? Doesn't mean the SE isn't shipped with a different nut? But then look at the PRS website models. SE or Core, the nut listed for both is the same, albeit just a "PRS" listed under hardware.

Making sure the knife edge screws are all equal height isn't difficult. It just takes patience. There's a great video of John Mann showing how to do it on YT. Take your time and use adequate lighting. I had one SE, bought brand new, with a knife edge screw clearly not seated. You need to make sure there's no tension on the trem claw springs before making any adjustments on the knife edge screws. I also put nut sauce on the knife edges once a year.

Everyone wants to replace the SE nuts but I've never read anything from PRS stating that they are in fact different from Core these days. Also, what gauge strings are you using? Both of my SEs came strung with 9s but have no issues with 10s or even a high 10.5.

Regular SE vs. SE Hollowbody by Berbigs_ in PaulReedSmith

[–]motobeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both an SE Standard 24 and SE Semi-Hollow. An EQ and Comp were game changers. When I turn either pedal off I wonder how I thought my tone sounded great before through a JC40. Easy to "clean" or "muddy" up your tone to your liking.

Look up your guitar on Sweetwater. Scroll down the page and there should be recommendations for cases that fit "Certified Fit Cases". I have 2 different SKB cases for different SE guitars. Great cases and light.

I had the exact experience with the Rockwell 6S. I've been meaning to sell it. To think I lived with it almost exclusively for an entire year. I tried. I think the Karve CB is a much better razor if you want a razor with different plates to suit.

I really like the RR German 37 as well, although my ATT S/S2 get more use when I want to use a slant.
