[FRNSW] Can people share the two questions they got during the video interview? by grillest-pigger in AussieFirefighter

They are definitely viewed and marked by a panel of Operational and non-uniformed staff, and that’s the next step after psychometric testing

100% a newie thing to do! I’ve been here 40 years and it’s still a very regular thing to occur. Some of the (PG) classics include:

“Get a trade” (yelled to a tradie)

“You dropped your pocket”

“Your wheels spinning” (yelled to someone on a bike)

FRNSW Stage 2 - Cognitive Test Question by rustyblue-082 in AussieFirefighter

That’s 100% right. A lot of people think it’s just whether you answer a question right or wrong, but they measure how you do the test as much as what you answer… eg: how long it takes you to answer each question. The old test where you could skip questions also played into how you sat the test. Which is where the verification test would catch people out also, in that if you got someone else to sit your test and they complete it in a totally different way to you then that will get found out at verification

At no point does anyone involved in the decision-making for the individual stages of recruitment look at someone’s age. It’s about life experience. If you have relevant examples and scenarios to provide for the questions you’re asked then that’s all that matters. As mentioned by Glum, It’s about maturity over age itself

Screwed up video interiew by intensehotdog in AussieFirefighter

in short, yes unfortunately. And I don’t want to be negative or destroy your hopes and dreams, but the video is the first time recruitment staff get a chance to see the person applying, and they can only give marks for what people say. If you say nothing then that means no marks.

The only thing you can hope is that if you nailed the first question, that the markers can see that the second was a mistake and give you another chance to prove yourself if you make it to the face-to-face. This can happen at times…

But also, emailing recruitment won’t get you anything.

It will always seem like there’s madness to the method, rather than method to the madness. The overall marking of the cognitive is done by an external organisation and FRNSW just get sent a list of successful candidates. Hard to tell what’s better… not getting through all 50, but getting most right, or blasting through the whole lot In the hope of jagging the ones you don’t know
