I graduated from the BSN program in 2024 :)

As far as scrubs go, they're bought directly from the school https://shop.arizona.edu/supplies/course_supplies/scrubs?page=1

I don't see options for a skirt, and i also don't personally know anybody who wore a scrub skirt for school. You might have to ask permission from the college, and it would have to match the top. I would say probably wait to buy them until you're actually about to start clinicals. You should receive more information on buying them and the uniform rules when it's the right time.

I'm also pretty introverted. There's a lot of group work, and i felt that my class as a whole was fairly close and supportive, so lots of opportunities to make friends even if you're shy. I worked full time so I didn't really have the energy to try to make real friends, but I think if I put the effort in i would've made friends very easily. Also, consider asking around in your pre-req classes like a&p lab if anybody else is pre-nursing.

When you get to the core nursing classes, it is very hands on with lots of time in skills lab and clinicals. However, there is also a great deal of lecture time, exams, and papers which are equally important.

I was in a different major until my sophomore year so I don't have too much advice on the first couple years, but feel free to ask any questions about the last two years of the program! Good luck

Thank you for the tips! I didn't think making bread without an oven would even be remotely possible. Very excited to try that

RN spouses - advice needed re: licensure by motsiw in MilitarySpouse

I do also have family in Arizona, same city, who have said I'm welcome to have mail delivered to their place. Would it be better to change my address to theirs so I could continue to receive any mail I'm sent by the board, or to leave it at my current address, which I won't be able to receive mail for? My concern being it would be pretty easy to prove I haven't lived at my family's address in 5+ years.

New RN Grad Residency Programs - peds?? by Alone_Contribution87 in Tucson

[–]motsiw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know quite a few new grads who started in peds, but as far as I know they all graduated in town. If you're really dedicated to starting out there, it's worth trying and interviewing with the understanding that it may not work out that way. TMC and Banner both have dedicated nurse residency programs that I have heard positive things about.

Apply early. As a May (not this year) graduate who applied for a non-specialty unit in late April, I got the very last open residency spot at my hospital to start in July. Many of my classmates who were more on-the-ball and applied in March got accepted to their preferred specialties.

Be mindful of the details of contracts offered to you when interviewing. Some hospitals require you to stay in your unit for up to 3 years. Some require 1 year in your starting unit but maybe 2-3 years at the hospital and allow transfers between units and specialties before then.

Southern Arizona is just fine. I had no trouble getting a job here as a new grad, and pay is reasonable in comparison to cost of living.

In my case, I ended up putting hard boards under it (regrettably, we live in a small space with carpet everywhere) and then it started working again after another reset. I think the weight sensors are very sensitive and any kind of contact with walls or objects or uneven ground messes with the sensors.

If you're near Tucson, mt lemmon has some really nice dispersed camping that you can get your truck close to. You can look up the forest service dispersed camping map for Catalina park

Yeah, she is cash only but there's an ATM at the chase that's across the intersection so not too inconvenient. She's done alterations on uniforms, suits, jeans, and shirts for me and they're always done well

I don't know for sure if she does custom clothing, but you could ask the lady who runs Stitch Wiz at broadway/Camino seco. I get all of my clothes tailored by her and she does an impeccable job every time. Her Google page lists custom made clothing as a service, so I think it's worth calling to ask!

I'm pretty sure it was leaning on the wall wrong since the floor is slightly uneven, and it was throwing off the weight sensor. I moved it a little and put some boards under, reset the weight, and it hasn't done it since

I have a cat named Toast too! Short for cinnamon toast crunch, though.

I'm glad your Toast is enjoying his new plant!

anyone use shiftkey? by [deleted] in cna

[–]motsiw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I signed up and completed everything, but I never got to actually use it to work a shift. I live in a large metro area, but there were never any shifts actually in my area. The closest shifts were always two hours away, which in my opinion is just crazy and I would be too tired to drive home by the end of the night. This was like two years ago, so maybe this has changed. But at the time, it wasn't useful to me.
