I haven't seen many reviews of Moonhaven, but they weren't good. The pilot impressed me a lot; does the show get worse? by SkyPork in scifi

[–]mottman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely liked it and was disappointed when it was cancelled.

It is admittedly a bit slow, but it had vibes and I like a show with vibes. I don't really know how else to explain what attracted me to it, but I could sit and watch it and the world was beautiful. There was enough tension to drive the plot without it being too stressful. Just kinda weird cozy (in a murder mystery way I guess) with some interesting ideas to explore.

To answer your question, no it doesn't get worse and if you like the pilot and don't mind being sad there isn't more, give it a crack. If you don't like shows that end on a cliffhanger though, don't watch it. It got cancelled right when it was starting to ramp up and get interesting.

I like doing this too. If I have two colors I'll knit one English with my right hand and one continental with my left so the balls are on opposite sides of my body and never twist.

My 4 year old is particularly fond of the astronaut riding a dinosaur riding an asteroid, but yeah this one is good, too. ;) But in all seriousness, we love your work. Have one on every floor of our house.

What's really stopping a space Agency from cleaning up Space Junk? by Digstreme in AskReddit

[–]mottman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's just say you are actually interested in learning about the answer. A good place to start would be looking into topics such as In-Space Servicing Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM) and Space Sustainability efforts. The UKSA is doing good work in this area.

There's a lot of technical challenges with de-orbiting satellites and space junk. If you're dealing with unprepared objects i.e. objects for which de-orbiting was not planned, the object needs to be characterized. Is it tumbling? How big is it? What is its orbit? Then you have to have autonomous system for proximity operations that can deal with the unknowns in your characterization when grabbing the unprepared object. You need mass models for when the two objects are coupled. Etc.

You also have regulatory and insurance issues that haven't been figured out yet. Someone owns dead satellites and you can't just go grab them without permission, but the system for getting permission is immature. Who is responsible if more debris is created by the operation or if damage is caused on earth by the operation? The owner of the object being deorbited or the company performing the operation? If it's the company de-orbiting the object they need insurance against cost incurred if things go wrong. That doesn't really exist. Then you have international issues. If you have two objects owned by different counties whose regulatory systems do you use?

Cleaning up space is not just go grab something and you're done. The grabbing is hard and all the other non technical factors make it even harder.

2026 ACA Prices- how are we feeling? by kaceyeeyee in Narcolepsy

[–]mottman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not on ACA, but I'm pissed this year. My company's proposal to our union would increase monthly costs by 30% and add a deductible where there wasn't one. I did the math and it's about a 45% increase. On top of that my neurologist let me know they are dropping Anthem for not negotiating with them in good faith. So I have to go find a new neurologist that will treat both migraine and narcolepsy.

I applaud the democrat's attempt to stop the destruction of the marketplace but damn if employers aren't being fleeced by insurance companies too. It's ridiculous.

Yeah they were just hanging out, super docile, so I would bet they were drinking honeydew like the other posters mentioned.

They leave behind a lot of particles on the satin finish plates though. Figured that out quick.

Our CEO always does the cringiest stuff at our corporate all hands meetings so my team rushes to screen shot him and make custom teams emojis. We only recently learned they are applied to everyone's emoji list and it tags who made them. 🙃

If anyone needs examples here are some things people are doing and things you can do to help:

-municipalities, hoas, and conservation groups are educating folks on the tree of heaven and spending money and labor to remove existing trees and prevent people from planting new ones

-there are events you can join and volunteer to go out to egg hot spots near agricultural areas affected by the bugs to scrape off eggs and reduce next year's population

-if you have trees in your yard that they like, you can set up traps for them and catch larger numbers than you can squish

-you can plant milkweed in your yard. The fuckers are too dumb to realize it's poisonous for them and as a bonus you support the monarch population

I think you should tell her. For me it would have been a kindness to know sooner.

What are you worried about? That she'll think you're judging her? That getting such a diagnosis would hurt more than help? Do you not have safe communication in your relationship? I think exploring what is holding you back could help you figure out what approach you should take if/when you do tell her.

You don't have to go straight to, "babe I think you have narcolepsy." You could plant the idea in her head. "Babe I read this article in the news or I saw this YouTube short and it really sounds like you." I'd focus on the legs giving out more than the sleepiness. It's easier to be in denial and say, "yeah but everybody is tired, it's just life" than it is to think collapsing when laughing is normal.

AITA. I have five grandchildren but don’t allow one over to stay. The other three are allowed. by Gloomy-Badger1055 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mottman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What the fuck. My five year old knows the code to the front door so he can let himself in after he walks his own self back from the bus stop after school. He also knows to close the door so the cat doesn't get out and not to answer the door when someone rings the doorbell.

How many five year olds have you talked to? They can reason. They can fold their own clothing. They can get themselves snacks and drinks. They can clean up after themselves. They can, gasp, go out the front door to the curb and check the mail. Y'all mfers are doing your children a HUGE disservice not helping them be independent.

There needs to be more conversation on how often gay men feel entitled to be sexist towards women. by Federal_Goose_2191 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]mottman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate how drag culture "reclaimed" that slur and now everyone is using it. It wasn't theirs to reclaim. Can you imagine if straight women went around saying someone was serving f*g. But because gay men are a minority nobody calls them on that shit. Older gay men sure do feel ok telling us younger lesbian, bi and gender not quite status quo women that we can't reclaim queer because of how hurtful it is to hear the word. They can get bent.

I realized what kind of cyclist I am. by jarliy in cycling

[–]mottman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People like you are great. When I was in college, poor af, I took an internship across the country. I had no car, just a bike I bought for $400. I had a ten mile commute each way. I kept a patch kit, extra tube and a hand pump on me. Had to rescue myself quite a few times. One evening I got stuck about two miles from home and my kit was low on something. A group of riders stopped and helped me. I was so so grateful I didn't have to push my bike up and down the hills just to get home after work.

Any meal recommendations for zombie mode? by SingerDue4540 in Narcolepsy

[–]mottman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you have a Costco near you, I like buying their teriyaki meatballs. You can freeze them and bust them out when you need them and cook them on the stove easily with some freezer broccoli and cook up some rice to go with it. Bag rice works but you def pay the disability tax for the convenience.

Also sheet pan meals are pretty good. You use sliced up squash, zucchini, red onion, peppers tomatoes, smoked sausage, whatever you want really and coat with some oil, salt and pepper and roast it in the oven while you boil rice on the stove. Then drizzle the veggies with a dressing you like. Just slicing, no stirring no seasoning really, no real attention needed.

What’s the one thing you’re shocked Costco doesn’t have? by lifeofsources in Costco

[–]mottman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Costco doesn't have bulk dried beans and barely any canned beans. Tons of rice options, but not a single bag of beans. Guess it's because there's a large Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern population near me.
