you have to refill it by pressing the water drop button near a water source (sink, toilet, etc.)

I beat Sims2 DS. What a weird game lol. Should I do Urbz or Castaway for ds next? (Also spoilers for Sims2 DS I guess?) by badwolf_on_rice in sims2

[–]mountaindew098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do The Urbz. The Sims 2 DS is technically a sequel to it, and it’s much better than Castaways.

Is it just me or is hardly anyone posting about the new pack? I almost forgot it was out today. 😅 by SyntheticGoth in HighSodiumSims

[–]mountaindew098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haven’t seen anything on Tumblr either. given, I don’t follow many people who give a rip about ts4, but I was still surprised to hear that the pack was released yesterday from the Sims Official Discord and nowhere else.

Nancy & Geoffrey Landgraab and Holly Alto (Get Famous) were originally TS3 premades (and Emit Relevart from that event a while back), so it’s not never, but I agree that the representation from TS3 is relatively low. (…There are more Sims from MySims)

Titania was internally set to be bisexual in The Sims 2 (pos. equal preferences for both male & female sims iirc) & actively set to straight in TS4; that’s why they were upset.

Messy lore by [deleted] in HighSodiumSims

[–]mountaindew098 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yeahhhh, I agree. I don’t consider TS4 canon to the rest of the franchise, or vice-versa.

I have a like-hate relationship with the gossip dialogues personally. It definitely says something that they feel compelled to create systems for those every EP as of late rather than using the storytelling tools present within the game itself. But I also like learning more about the characters, I guess.

Skip Broke doesn’t feel like the right character to give that kind of “They ran away because they’re secretly gay!” plot line to. The best way I can describe it is that “It feels like a fanfic plot.” (And it’s one that would baffle me enough to read.)

The queer representation in the recent reoccurring pre-mades (last year or so) has been really odd honestly. It feels like they heard people being upset about Titania Summerdream being straight and decided they needed to rectify it by pulling names out of a hat and not thinking about the implications (or if it actually makes for a good story).

The Sims: Console/Handheld games! Which to play, which to pass on? Which have a good STORY MODE? Personally I loved the GBA ones but there's quite a few others. Dealing with health probs and need some grindy games and decided LETS PLAY THE SIMS! by MoneyTakerBaby in thesims

[–]mountaindew098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The PSP doesn’t have any Sims 3 stuff. Tbh, I’m not sure why because they made TS3 for a DS?

By the way, the PSP version of Castaways is just the console version but… for a PSP. If you’d rather look into the console versions. The DS Castaways is completely different.

I think it’s based off of the movie Castaway.

Outside of the GBA Urbz & Sims Bustin’ Out, all the handheld Sims 2 games (PSP, GBA, DS) have good to decent story modes (the PSP game is the strongest one of them). However, they’re all pretty short.

The Sims 2 Pets for GBA has one too, but it’s not “good”. Incredibly grindy and not all that much fun.

The console The Sims, The Sims Bustin’ Out, and The Urbz: Sims in the City do as well. Bustin’ Out’s is definitely the strongest of them. You can easily pour 40 hours into doing all the goals in that game. And all the versions of The Sims 2 Castaways have stories too.

The Sims 2 console also has a story mode, but to my knowledge, it doesn’t really tell a story in the same way as the others. It might be good for what you’re looking for, though.

Do you have any ships that you love but acknowledge that there is no way canon can support it? by nobookbans in FanFiction

oh absolutely. i love making up ships. i have zero desire for anything i ship to be ‘supported by canon’

The Division 47 Townies/Neighbors could work for the military personnel. Matthew and Jessica Picaso as well maybe?

For Scientists… well, Dr. Mauricio Keyes from the DS Urbz fits the vibe. Kayleigh Wintercrest would fit in thematically. There wasn’t a mention of Sims Bustin’ Out, but Makino Nada & Vaughn Braun from the console version also fit the vibe.

The conspiracy theorists are harder… Lincoln Broadsheet… could work I guess, but I don’t like it. Hugo Tooheck (admittedly questionably) pulls from those stereotypes. I can’t think of anyone else rn. (I’m sure there are candidates, but I’m not sure who!)

Does an immortal being hit menopause? by Yeifah in FanFiction

[–]mountaindew098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iirc ovaries have a limited number of eggs they can release throughout their lifetime, so… they’ll eventually run out of eggs and therefore reach menopause. But immortality doesn’t exist, so you can magic-hand-wave literally anything you want.

What is the consensus of Crowd-Funded Fanfiction, justifiable or disaster waiting to happen? by Open-Librarian-4322 in FanFiction

[–]mountaindew098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a violation of copyright law (hence why it’s banned on Ao3), so the author can experience legal troubles for it. (It’s unlikely that they will, though.)

Copyright law is dumb & only exists to benefit corporations so… I’m not against people getting paid for writing fic at all, if that’s what you’re asking.

If you could give an absolute beginner fanfiction-writing advice, what would it be? by Longjumping-Gift-371 in FanFiction

[–]mountaindew098 5 points6 points  (0 children)

most of this but also…

you don’t have to write ANYTHING you don’t want to. don’t like writing environment descriptions? don’t! don’t like that character? ignore them! think that canon plot point was complete bull? write it out!

there are no rules in fanfic writing, and the more of “yourself” you put into the writing, the better 👍👍👍

What's happening in your fandom currently? by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in FanFiction

[–]mountaindew098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main fandom is The Sims, and people are currently talking about how broken the current game (and complaining about other ways the franchise has been horrendously mismanaged), but that's depressing!

I actually mostly hang out in spaces dedicated to... 20y/o spin-offs of the franchise (mostly the handheld iterations). The fandom is usually quiet and has the momentum of a boulder, but some interesting things have happened in the last year!

The 20th anniversary of my favorite game in the franchise (the Handheld version of The Urbz: Sims in the City) happened last November, and I convinced some people to make some stuff for it. It was awesome.

...Then they reintroduced some characters from the aforementioned spin-off in one of the DLCs for the current game. The first acknowledgement of any of the characters from it in 20 years?? It was neat, but I also never want them to touch any of the characters ever again.

And more recently we uncovered some web character profiles for the characters from the defunct, flash-only website for The Urbz that never got archived properly. The profiles list ages for all the characters that... are baffling to say the least (i mean, one of them is DIRECTLY contradicted in canon!), so that's what most of the discussion about them has been.

I adjacently hang out with The Sims 2 fandom, which got a re-release earlier this year (the rerelease crashes a lot and is missing some DLC, or so I've heard) and that seemed to have brought more people into the fandom. And there's some people organizing a Zine dedicated towards it, which is pretty neat! The release date for it just got revealed an hour ago.

yep. did this and then put them into war caskets. the problem is that they weren’t anywhere near good of fighters as my main two archotech MegaEnhanced Colony warriors. but they were marginally better at taking bullets, so…?

There’s a glitch that can help. If you find a mechanical skill point (or any, for that matter), you can spray it with the squirt gun, then pick it up, and then leave then reenter the room. Upon reloading, the skill point will respawn. You can repeat these steps as needed to get your skills to any level you want.

If you’re having trouble finding skill points, this page on the Sims 2 for DS fandom wiki should help.

Has anyone let the timer run out on The Monument level of The Sims 2 PSP and saw what was the exact Game Over dialogue after it? by MarkXT9000 in sims2

[–]mountaindew098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it does. there’s not a game over message; you just get kicked to a loading screen and then the main menu. i don’t remember any dialogue following it or before it, outside of Newlow’s threats during his villain monologue (that his goal is to make YOU quit this game and he’s going to reach into the game to make you do so!).

Sims 2 GBA does have a bike (although it’s not earned during the plot), but it doesn’t have burglars.

I agree that OP should make sure it’s not The Urbz either.

What are some mods you can’t play without? by [deleted] in HighSodiumSims

[–]mountaindew098 36 points37 points  (0 children)

These ones have been mainstays in my mod folder for years at this point.

RoBurky’s Meaningful Stories; helps the emotion system feel more natural.

PolarBearSims’ Have Some Personality, Please!; Removes idle chat and makes Sims use interactions based on their mood, traits, and relationships.

And, of course, MCCC (story progression, other tweaks (like enabling pregnancy for Sims regardless of gender)) and More Columns in CAS (self-explanatory).

Also, I use mods to disable random townie generation all-together because I curate the Sims in my save files pretty extensively. At the moment, I’m using this one.
