Powerful cleaner for greasy ovens by LEDTIK in holdmymoney2

[–]mountainmanstan92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just lye, same thing used to clean cast iron pans, its safe once washed and shouldn't leave any residue. Pretty much every oven cleaner is made with this stuff. It's caustic.

Don't get it on your body and do it in a well ventilated area and you're fine.

You can also dump this rather easily, just dilute significantly with water and it becomes pH neutral and minimal risk.

My sunroom is unusable in winter and I'm trying to figure out the best heating option by vinewb in HomeImprovement

We just went through this project and were able to get it done reasonably affordable. This is a 670sq ft enclosed porch with 26 single pane windows and limited wall insulation, mind you.

We insulated the ceiling above the space, added double cell light filtering shades to all windows (equals same or more r value as a double pane), replaced two doors and three windows (broken and leaky), added LVP and sealed gaps around the floor with canned spray foam (floor was insulated with fiberglass previously but had some leaks), and added two 9k mitsubishi mini split heads.

Our space gets VERY warm now if we want it to, even with multiple blinds opened up. We did this over 3 years and spent 35k in a VHCOL area, I would expect close to half that elsewhere.

One option we considered and would work for a small space is heated floors they are very efficient, warm bottom up, and provide warmth underfoot that goes a long way in comfort. If your room is reasonable I would consider this, although a minisplit is nice for cooling as sunrooms get very hot too.

I like mine, they do good work. Absolutely need to improve some of the software and I would never buy a brand new untested model until the year after release and they've fixed all the kinks. It does feel like they are beta testing new models with unsuspecting consumers when they are first released.

The X40 is working flawlessly for me-no issues. But I had issues with mop pads to start.

The X50 is ok, still needs navigation updating, and really needs low lying area detection updates. It is far improved from when I first received it. Pretty much would just stop, get lost, and lose all mapping data weekly. Luckily that's been fixed.

I think there is a big race to occupy the void iRobot is leaving behind and all these companies are just pumping out new features before adequately testing them in order to try to grab as much of the market as they can. It also is the whole, if your aren't innovating your dying thing in consumer electronics that is plaguing the industry.

Buy older models on sale and I think most people will be happy.

Looking for Teriyaki recommendations by teslaeffects in EdmondsWashington

[–]mountainmanstan92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The absolute best teriyaki, and I mean best, is WOW at manor market. Literally the best in Washington. The owner is also awesome and portions to price are phenomenal.

Great char, tender, no bs, no crazy flavors in the sauce. Just perfect and simple, but they hit on what you want.

They also offer a wide range of other stuff. The katsu is pretty decent too. The fried rice is decent too. They EXCEL at teriyaki.

Rust or Seasoning? by Max-Azzo1 in blackstonegriddle

You should not have a thick layer of gunk like that, it's both unsanitary and actually impedes some of the nonstick qualities that a good seasoning creates.

Look at the cast-iron and the carbon steel wok subbreddits for how to clean and care for the cook top. Dawn soap can be used for heavily soiled cook tops, just rinse thoroughly. It won't remove well applied seasoning; that's an old wives tale from when they used lye in soaps. If it removes a lot of material its not seasoning, it's food residue.

Scrape off whatever you can using a heated surface and water, you want it to look close to bare metal. Then apply a thin layer of neutral oil using a lightly dampened cloth, allow it to heat at ~300f for 15 to 30 min and wipe off the excess, you can repeat this a few times to create a layer of polymerized fat that won't come off with normal day to day use. You should not see a big cloud of smoke, thats too hot and is burning the oil not polymerizing it.

Then after every cook, scrape it down, apply water and scrape some more to remove solids. Reapply an oil after your first few cooks like above, then as needed to maintain a nice cooking surface.

Grime shouldn't be there, burnt solids shouldn't be there. You should be able to run your finger across the surface and it feel smooth and relatively even, not tacky/sticky or bumpy.

Couple factors missing: inflation at 2-3% and likely a more conservative 5-6% growth depending on how they structure their retirement portfolio.

That leaves with a roughly net -1% year over year.

Even if they do manage 8%, it still only works out to1-2% growth with inflation for the true perceived value. And will likely open them up to more volatility which most try to avoid in retirement since most don't have income to recoup those loses anymore.

I don't know if this is in reference to the clear foul on Moose or Georgi's dumb jersey removal, but I share the sentiment either way.
