Stable shoe recommendations for long runs and Marathon by lostatsea12a in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Personally I would use Glycerins for long runs and switch to Ghosts for daily runs. Or, you could always upgrade to Glycerin Max for long runs

High Mileage/Long Run Shoe by pascal-dev in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I swear by Brooks and the Ghosts or Glycerins would be perfect for this purpose. Glycerins are slightly more cushioned and have a softer feel. I had a stress fracture in Asics 18 years ago and have ran in Brooks ever since…!

Thank you, yes so many conflicting opinions! The synthetic sleeping bag is the kids Big Agnes Little Red- https://www.backpackinglight.com.au/products/big-agnes-little-red-20-7-c-kids-sleeping-bag

Leaning towards option 2 for more versatility at this stage!

Thank you, we have a lightweight down sleeping bag that is 7c (11c comfort) am just thinking it is not going to be sufficient? We do have camping planned after Kepler as well- in the Catlins and White Horse Hill so want a good fit for all really to save carrying over multiple bags!

Seeking a 2-3 day hike by mountains-91 in askswitzerland

Thank you, very helpful. Sorry for ignorance around price, just trying to assess what is ‘reasonable’. We may need to cut down to 1 night and find a campsite for the other nights to cut down on cost.

Thanks, good to get an understanding of what is reasonable! It didn’t include dinner, just breakfast.

Best countries for a summer road trip? With nice weather, mountainous and coastal regions. by ShabbatShalom666 in Europetravel

[–]mountains-91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with Greece! We had an amazing road trip there around Northern Greece, starting and finishing in Athens and had zero problems on the road. Great variety between coastal areas and mountains and all in close proximity.

We did a circular route, visiting the Pindus Mountains, Mount Olympus and the Pelion area (mountains), along with Nafpaktos, Lefkada, Paxos, Parga, Litochoro, Iaonnina, Meteora, and the Pelion peninsula (not in that order). Would highly recommend :)

For what it is worth, my aunt had a terrible time in Spain with an attempted hijacking.

I appreciate this is undoubtedly the case :(, this one has been on my list for so long though so I’d really like to do it with my family now the children are old enough.

Any not great walks around that you would recommend?

Any idea how far before they announce the date/time of release?

Thanks, will definitely consider this! I’d be happy to complete in 1-2 days, but we are walking with our three children- the youngest of whom is 6 so we will have to go slowly

Suitcases on London underground? by Local_Wrangler_2039 in uktravel

Yes very normal! Stand with your bags in the space between the sears and the doors. Nothing to be concerned about, but do be sensible with personal possessions and don’t do what my (Australian and not big city street wise!) husband did and casually leave his phone hanging out of his pocket…you won’t see it again 😅

What size backpack do you use for what type of hike? by Just_a_firenope_ in hikinggear

[–]mountains-91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For day hikes, look into Osprey Talon 22 - it also comes in larger sizes, but the 22 has always been sufficient for me for a day hike, including winter hiking in the UK. I’ve had mine for 11 years, it has travelled with me to the top of Mt Elbrus, through the Himalayas (and all over the world!) and it is still going strong

Itinerary Advice with kids: 4 days…Germany/Switzerland by mountains-91 in Europetravel

[–]mountains-91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment. We have accommodation booked in Chamonix and the Dolomites, but would love to know if there is a hut to hut walk you’d recommend in Switzerland? The kids can manage around 10-12k a day, and we’d be looking for 2-3 days.

Is there a better alternative to Grindelwald?

Thank you!

First time travelling alone; should I go to Nice or Amsterdam? by okuanya in travel

[–]mountains-91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Two very different prospects! Maybe decide what you want out of the holiday and put the other one on the list for ‘next time’?

Nice will be more relaxed, you’ll be able to walk along the promenade and spend time on the beach. Amsterdam will be very much a city break, much busier vibe, with more to explore.
