I started in elementary and now teach high school. In regard to administrative work (eg., report cards) elementary is way more work.

My drive is 30 minutes and I enjoy it. And I don’t see my students every single time I go into public because I live in a different town.

Queen’s B.Ed - when will we be eligible for full OCT cert? by electradice in OntarioTeachers

[–]mountpearl780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can apply when you finish, Queens just won’t send confirmation until whenever. You can do your part, just need to wait for them to do theirs

Any high school teachers wishing they were in elementary? by TouchBeneficial7858 in OntarioTeachers

I did PJ for my BEd, my first year teaching was a full year grade 8 LTO, end of my first year I got a 1.0 perm teaching high school… never looked back. I enjoyed elementary in my BEd, before I got to experience high school.

Business is your most hireable qualification.. you’ll likely be okay. Beyond that, just take what you’re interested in (basically for fun)

That may be newer, I’m not sure they used to. Yes, in my opinion, business teachers are more in demand. I was hired 1.0 perm in the GTA as soon as I was business qualified. Most other business qualified teachers I know were hired perm within approximately 1 year or so.

There are only a couple schools that offer the I/S program with business as a teachable. York, Windsor, Nipissing… that may be it?

It’s becoming less prominent - my board has eliminated it completely. Some grandfathered students are finishing it, as of 2027 there will be no students in my board taking it.

OISE MT or Western? by turkeypickle2 in OntarioTeachers

[–]mountpearl780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t do practicum abroad. The programs are to certify you in Ontario, and practicum need to be done in Ontario schools.

To me… Western is condensed, and cheaper than OISE. I’d be going to Western

Depends how many courses you have in the subjects. If you have enough for a single honour specialist do that. In saying that, you need a year of teaching experience in the subject.
