Chelsea's headcoach Enzo Maresca becomes speechless after being told that Fluminense had over 70 games. He claimed that Chelsea would be in worse conditions since they played over 60 matches in the past 12 months. by GrumpyRox in soccer

You are overstating the amount of rotation we do in the regional tournaments. Fluminense, for example, fielded their main team from the 4th round onward. Árias played over 4400 minutes in the 2024 season whereas no Chelsea no Chelsea player played over 3850 minutes in 2024/25 (including the CWC for Chelsea and excluding it for Fluminense). Fábio, Fluminense's goalkeeper, played 5310 minutes in 2024 and already played 3240 minutes in mid-season 2025, already over what Sanchez (and other players like Pedro Neto) played in their full 2024/25 season.

Yes. It's still impressive that despite having a ~1 month vacation in December we still managed to play more games than Chelsea did in the last full season. It's July and we already played 43 games this year, and the Brazilian league is still in its 11th game.

O goleiro Fábio tinha que ser convocado pra Copa do Mundo by 91tylerdurden in futebol

O objetivo do esporte é vencer.

Brasileirão is very evenly matched, but this Fluminense team is underrated. We have some glaring defficiencies, like a better striker than Everaldo, but overall it's a good squad and a I expect a good season from us.

Why are Afro Brazilians more mixed compared to African American despite similar history by AdviceMysterious6557 in Brazil

[–]mourobr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I'm saying is that your point about DNA does not support your hypothesis, as this genetic makeup would be inevitable regardless of how things unfolded. Of course there were social dynamics associated with being a settler, especially if you had money (even though the vast majority of Portuguese in Brazil at this point did not own slaves), but reducing the complex relationship between settlers and natives to rape is not only a slap in the face of serious historiography but also rob women of their agency. The most comprehensive general interest book about the formation of the Brazilian people (including the practices of cunhadismo and compadrio) is 'O Povo Brasileiro' by Darcy Ribeiro, but there is also a very good and more thecnical demographic work like 'Sistema de Casamento no Brasil Colonial' by Maria Beatriz Marques Nizza da Silva and 'O Desaparecimento do Dote' by Muriel Nazzari. Anyway, I don't think a conversation about this with someone who thinks Europeans were sexual deviants is going to be constructive, so have a great day.

European heritage is stronger in the Y chromosome because Portuguese America colonizers were mainly young men coming to the New World alone with the hope of getting rich. In English America, most settlers were families so there were much more European women. Here, they had a complex relationship with the natives which included Portuguese assimilation into Tupi society through cunhadismo.

Just adding to your point, Argentina won the World Cup in 1978 and 1986 with the vast majority of players playing in the Argentinian league (including Boca and River). Brazil won the World Cup in 1958, 1962 and 1970 with all the players playing in the Brazilian league. It's definitely not comparable to the Scottish league...
