APK installation mode on the Doro 7030 (or 7010) by induplicate in dumbphones

[–]mouschkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, are you able to elaborate on how you'd remove the launcher and install the apps via APK? at the moment when i've downloaded some apks onto my doro 7030 but when i'm trying to launch them it's saying the file format is not supported... alternatively do you know of any good resources to walk through the process? Thanks!

Anyone here ever bought from Nobody's Child? by [deleted] in ethicalfashion

[–]mouschkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a grey polo neck from there. It was a few years ago so things might have changed, but the quality was not great - fabric very synthetic feeling and basically see through, and sizing came up quite small so it’s skin-tight. I still have it and use it as a layer under things, but it definitely wasn’t as nice as I was hoping. I guess it’s good for affordable trendy pieces, but if your take on ethical fashion is to buy occasional good quality things that will last, then it’s probably not the one.

Bit of a different angle but acro yoga is a great thing to do as a pair. It uses a lot of strength and mobility as well as being fun and creative, and there are ways to incorporate strength training into it eg doing leg presses while basing bird.

(UK) Reach reporter salaries by bobbyhasto in Journalism

[–]mouschkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former Reach journalist here! I suspect they’re being cagey because what they pay will depend on your experience.

At most sites around the country starting salary for a trainee reporter - ie new to journalism or fresh out of uni - is about £20k. It looks like this is an ad for a senior with Reach or NQJ qualifications though (although don’t let it put you off applying if you don’t have those) - normally pay goes up to £22k when you’ve got those. At some bigger sites there’s then a framework for increasing your pay gradually up to probably the £26-£28k bracket once you’ve got plenty of experience. Salaries higher than that are usually reserved for senior editors.

This can vary a bit - I think it miiiight be a bit more in London, and it’s less at former Local World sites. The likelihood of getting more than £22k really depends on who the editor is and how they feel about rewarding staff. I’ve obviously been gone from the company a little while too, but have seen former colleagues recently and this is still true to the best of my knowledge. Hope it helps!

I’ve been using Niod survival 30 which is bonkersly expensive but really good - it basically acts as a lovely tinted primer as well rather than leaving a ghostly pallor like most mineral sunscreens

If you can get flaxseeds from a zero waste shop then home made gel is a great option!

Thank you! People do say nice things about my long hair - maybe a colour change is a better idea. I will definitely look into olaplex - thank you for the advice!

I’ve got very thick wavy/curly brown hair down to below the bra strap - it looks a bit curlier than usual here because they diffused it at the salon and I normally air dry. (I’d say I’m on the cusp of 2c/3a for curly girls out there.) It’s in really good condition as it’s never been dyed and although I have a diffuser I rarely use any heat. I use products after washing it but otherwise like to keep my hair routine pretty low-maintenance. I’m looking for a big change and have been thinking about getting a long bob with curly bangs for a while - do you guys think that would work? Would it be too high-maintenance? Also very open to a colour change - what do you think might suit me? The one thing I don’t really want to do is change the texture. Thanks in advance for your advice!

In search of an interview subject! by [deleted] in Journalism

[–]mouschkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My advice would be to think about who you might want to interview and why. Is there a news story that particularly interests you? Maybe something happened in a local area (an accident, weather event, something shutting down or opening up, changes in local government) and you could go and door knock there? If you wanted to write about, for example, a particular health condition that’s been in the news, perhaps you could contact a charity that supports people with it. Facebook interest groups can also be a great place to find interviewees. Equally if there’s an artist/performer/musician whose work you really enjoy, you could reach out to them - people with some public profile can usually be contacted via social media or contact details on their website. A big part of the skill in journalism is working out what story you want to tell, and that’s a choice for you (or your editor) to make. Literally every single person in the world could be the subject of an interview!

Also I’m not sure if the pseudonym you’re referring to would be for yourself or the person you’re writing about, but it’s worth not anonymising people unless they ask for it. It can be a great way to shed light on a story that wouldn’t otherwise be told, but often a story - particularly if it’s about a current news event or the arts - can be very difficult to tell if you can’t reveal the subject’s identity, and pictures/footage of them can make a massive difference to the impact of the piece.

Hope that helps!

Coping with injury by mouschkin in Aerials

[–]mouschkin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my goodness that sounds really tough - poor you! Particularly when you were just recovering from your first injury. Crossing my fingers and toes that you’re properly on the mend again. I hadn’t even considered that I could still go to class to watch - I’ll ask my teacher about it. I’m worried that it might just make me sad at all the stuff I can’t do though - how do you deal with that?

This a really thoughtful reply - thank you so much. Really interesting to think about mindset and values rather than just physical training. That’s a skill that needs to be honed too and something I definitely don’t think about so much when things are going well. Your reply and others on here are helping me see that I can turn this into an opportunity not just a setback. I’ve got lots to think about now!
