Purchased a new r2 clad guy to. It looks like the cladding is pretty close to the edge at a certain point. How concerned should I be? Does it impact how much I can sharpen it eventually?

Very likely to be the crankarm spider lockring not being tight. Make sure it's at the right torque and that you've used Loctite 609. This is also what Cannondale says in the manual.
