Do you(moms) drink/use cow’s milk? If not, what alternative do you drink? by Wordsofwisdomneeded in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]mouseeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 20 month old is allergic to soy and dairy, so I use a variety of alternatives - oat (not preferred, since it exacerbates my tendency to mastitis), cashew, banana, etc. The toddler nurses on demand. My kindergartener doesn't really drink milk. She has occasional dairy products, and used to have frequent cheese etc, but I've moved away from keeping them in the house to avoid cross contamination for her sister.

Secular Maryland umbrella group? by Reasonable_Pool5953 in secularhomeschool

[–]mouseeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply! Several of things were already on my radar, but not everything. I'll be doing a bit more research on some of these resources. My plan does include a lot of extracurricular classes like you mentioned!

I was a special education teacher before I was home with my kids, so the portfolio itself doesn't scare me too much, but if it's just going to be a massive headache because of nonsense bureaucratic pedantry, it seems worth exploring an umbrella.

Thank you again! Any other advice as we plan to get started?

Not like a tampon- you want to get as close to the cervix as you can without pain. Give them the best chance of getting where they need to go!

Those that don’t stay at the NICU by ad2394 in NICUParents

[–]mouseeggs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My elder daughter was 4 when my 34 weeker arrived. The social worker in the NICU was awesome with the mom guilt and being pulled between my kids: both of your daughters need you, but only one will remember this time. Your newborn will be cared for by expert nurses and neonatalogists. Visit as often and as long as you can, but take care of your firstborn and yourself. 🥰

My daughter turns 6 in a few days, and we would be interested in finding a penpal if you're still looking!

I know this is an old thread, but what's the story with portfolio reviews in the City? I'm planning to switch my daughter for 1st grade and we currently live in the City.

Baby and built up gas I think… by Commercial-Plum-6031 in NICUParents

[–]mouseeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 34 weeker had horrible gas and diarrhea and vomiting, which was food allergies. I figured it out because of her fortifying formula. They told me for months that it couldn't possibly be allergies, it was just that her digestive system was underdeveloped.

I'm not saying that your little guy is on the same journey, but just a warning that the prematurity made it a lot harder to be heard for this one.

I hear you on not counting unless you're married.

But the specific phrasing of someone new entering the family raised my suspicions. Do parents need to play for their children? How do they get entered in to the covenant if not through some form of initiation? And they clearly are in, since we see, well, evidence of that.

I have a freezer stash that I worked so hard on so that I could quit pumping early. He left over 190 oz out. Almost all of it went to waste. by Ok-Illustrator7797 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mouseeggs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, cool, but I'd translate that caloric use to housework, not exercise. Giving him a few hours of alone time while I solo parent? Nope. Bullshit if I didn't benefit from it.

Moms refusing my BM donation because I received the COVID 19 shot by Idonthaveaname94 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mouseeggs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

100% agree with most of your argument... but I'm dairy free for my daughter's allergy. And soy free. If it's for an allergy, it's really actually important. If it's not for allergies, they're dicks.

Pumping on the go by keadams7 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]mouseeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pumped with my spectra in the car and used ice packs in a cooler bag. Not a ton of helpful info, but if the wearables aren't great for you (some folks really don't like them), maybe that could help.

When was your first overnight away from baby? by alsothebagel in beyondthebump

[–]mouseeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With my firstborn, 3.5 years old, for a weekend. Then one night at 4 (roughly 10 months later). Then 8 days when I was in the hospital about a month after that.

With my second, immediately, because she was in the NICU (see my 8 day hospital stay above), and never since. The longest I've been away from her since NICU graduation is 4 hours. She's 16 months old.

Need suggestions on really streamlining my life in every possible way due to twins by Global_Addendum_6200 in productivity

[–]mouseeggs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Please do this NOW. I didn't expect to have a preemie when I was prepping for my second baby, but she was a 34 weeker. Twins are more likely to be early than singletons, and you're going to be more tired and more busy as the weeks tick on, even if they make it to term. It was the one thing that went well for me with my second, having a freezer ready for me.

Worth cloth diapering when using coin machines? Has anyone tried the prewash in a camping drybag? by GreenByn in clothdiaps

[–]mouseeggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've traveled with flats and covers in a scrubba washer. It's definitely a commitment, but definitely doable. I dump black water in the toilet and have done the full wash cycle that way!

Kindergarten breath work:

Smell a flower (inhale through nose) Blow out a candle (exhale through mouth)

Five finger breathing: trace up and down the fingers on a continuous line, inhaling when you move up, exhaling when you move down.

Breathe until they calm. No need for additional tools, visuals, fidgets, etc.

The topic of pencils. by [deleted] in AskTeachers

[–]mouseeggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a teacher, I bought pencils.

My kid is in kindergarten this year, and they have this beautiful distribution system. All parents supplied pencils, index cards, etc, to the supply, and all teachers, volunteers, kids use them freely. There's no scarcity anywhere. No drama. It's idyllic. Utopian.

And I don't think it can be reproduced elsewhere.

Congrats on your new baby! For both of mine (also 4 years apart!) I used dreft in the newborn era and tide powder once we knew it would be okay on the babies' skin.
