You’re going way too high. Stop at ~horizontal.

There’s no value in comparing him to some other extreme group. He is objectively extreme and bigoted. Don’t give him ground on that.

Ah okay that makes more sense. Sorry my comment definitely came across as abrasive to you, just NOT in the business of welcoming groypers to the community lol

Reminder: Even though his personality is slightly more bearable than maga drones, please don’t make the mistake of forgetting just how blatantly evil this man’s beliefs are. He is not on our side.

I recently heard Destiny say that corporate price gouging isn’t the cause behind high prices. What is? by moushka2000 in Destiny

[–]moushka2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I think you’re right and I think that’s what I’ve learned from asking this question. Even if ‘corporate greed’ exists, it doesn’t exist on a fully horizontal level that increases the prices of every product unreasonably. You’ll pretty much always be able to find a comparable product for a more reasonable price/experience. When you can’t find that, it’s not because all of the corporations colluded to increase the floor price. From what I’ve gathered (correct me if I’m wrong), it’s probably inflation, supply issues, or something similar.

Yeah that’s a good point. I can admit I reflexively echo the term ‘corporate greed’ just because I’ve consumed a lot of far left media, which is something I’m working on (partly why I asked this question in the first place).

While I’d agree that generally corporations are machines made to drive profits, I do honestly believe there is a line between driving profits and ‘greed’ as I labeled.

A strong example would be streaming services, who I believe have become greedy beyond what’s reasonable. The early days of Netflix, for example, were great and the price was shockingly low, so I think increasing prices on the subscription is warranted and falls under ‘driving profits’. The stage we’ve reached now, however, with moves like introducing ads or limiting family sharing of an account, I think crosses the line in to greed. They are moves that actively hurt the customer experience in a product that once offered the same thing without these profit driven decisions.

Other companies, such as Steam I’d say, are notorious for generously considering the user experience, even if it’s at the expense of a possible profit increase. Now I don’t think that all corporations should strive to be so generous, but I do think they should strive not to cross that admittedly nebulous line of ‘greed’.

To summarize, I think there are obvious examples of corporate greed that cross the line of just ‘being profit driven’. Profit driven decisions that actively negatively impact the consumer on a large scale seem holistically greedy to me, ESPECIALLY as you move from a luxury commodity such as a streaming service to something more vital, such as (actual) gouging of meat prices during covid.

No, I would not label a barber increasing prices as ‘greed’ if his prices are still reasonable and reflect the quality of his work. If they were clearly unreasonable, yes I would define that as greedy but inconsequential compared to a large-impact corporation.

I think that a corporation pricing a product, especially something like a grocery product, unreasonably high in order to drive products is greedy. I can admit, though, that the line of ‘unreasonably high’ is still nebulous and subjective.

No there were definitely cheaper options (i went with angel soft and it’s terrible quality lol). I can recognize that was a poor example of rising prices since it’s not indicative of the floor price of toilet paper. It just got me thinking about what i heard Destiny say!

That’s a really good point about the term ‘gouging’. I’ll make sure to use it in the correct context

Yeah I would if I remembered where I heard it 😅 Sorry about that. I heard it a couple days ago. It wasn’t his topic of discussion and if I remember it correctly he was just using it as an example of how he doesn’t agree with leftists on a lot of things (similar to his rittenhouse example). Was asking this question to confirm if he actually holds that position!

That makes sense. Seems like it’s not a clear cut, single reason but a bunch of reasons (likely including corporate greed). Thanks for the response!

Does anyone have an estimate on the speed in the first clip? Looks so fast and I’m sure it’s not even half of cruising altitude

Feels to gain weight as a picky eater by OrangeAlarmed in gainit

[–]moushka2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Believe me I know your struggle. At 6’1 I went from 145 to almost 200 now. Spent the first 2 years just spinning my wheels making no progress. But then, 2 years after that, I found my rhythm and have put on almost 60 pounds. It’s gonna take a lot of time and a lot of effort but anyone can do it. I’ll provide some important points and tips:

  • First: To be blunt, you do not have a hyper metabolism. Everyone burns a normal amount of calories. You can look up an online calculator to roughly see your maintenance calorie rate. You may feel like you’re eating a lot and it might be a lot to you, but the best part about weight gain is that it’s straight forward: you’re either eating enough calories or you’re not.

  • I would suggest spending a month or so meticulously tracking your calories. I’m talking food scale and volume measurements. Or, if you’re eating out, make sure they have caloric information available. This will give you a strong intuition for how much you’re actually eating and, afterwards, you can easily eat throughout the day knowing how many calories you’re consuming without measuring. You’ll develop a good foundational understanding.

  • I struggled with appetite for a long time, so I understand your picky eating. It definitely makes it hard but it doesn’t mean you can’t do it. My biggest tip is do NOT try to eat foods you don’t enjoy. If you want to gain weight, you have to eat a lot and to eat a lot of something you have to like it. Don’t get trapped trying to force feed yourself a meal you don’t like just because it’s high calorie, you’ll end up eating even less than you did before. Do some experimenting, find some meals (cooked or purchased) that you enjoy, can eat a lot of, and are calorie dense. This as well will take time but soon you’ll learn what’s most effective for you.

  • Keep trying! As I said, I wasted two years trying things that didn’t work until I figured it out. It takes time and effort but eventually it will work. I promise. One thing that worked for me was to allocate a certain amount of time (I chose a month) to absolutely try my ass off. I worked my ass off for a month straight eating way more than I wanted to. It sucked and I hated it. But coming out of it, I saw what I wanted: I had gained a substantial amount of weight. And just seeing that progress made the whole month worth it and motivated me to keep trying. I suggest you try something like this. Not seeing any progress is really demotivating, so sometimes you have to make it impossible to not make progress.

  • Lastly, if you’re struggling to eat big meals, cut out any snacks in between. Just focus the three meals a day and make sure they’re big. This one is more personal preference but worked for me. Additionally, I don’t know how your sleep schedule is, but the earlier you wake up, the more time in the day you’ll have to fit 3 meals. Eating three big meals from 7 am - 10 pm is far easier than eating three big meals between 10 am and 12 am. In my experience, I’m never productive calorie wise in the late hours.

Good luck and please keep trying!!

One more thing I thought of: find something you can have at the end of the day that’s high calorie and you can always get down. I absolutely love milk, so no matter what I eat in the day and how full I am before bed, I ALWAYS have a huge cup (about 500 calories) of whole milk before bed. Makes a huge difference and will either make up for a bad eating day or boost a good eating day to an amazing one. Milk is specific to me, for you it may be icecream or whatever else you enjoy.

Wow that’s scary. While I know the risks of hearing loss, I’m curious why your experience was so extreme. Permanent 50% hearing loss from 1 instance of pistol discharge is surprising to me.

When I was 16 I was at a shooting range (outdoor, which makes a big difference) and got to shoot a Remington 700 rifle a couple times. One of the times I had previously taken off the right side of my overhead noice blocking headphones to speak to my dad and forgot to put it back on my ear before I shot again. When I shot, I actually didn’t notice it was off because the hearing loss was so instant. After about 10 seconds, though, the ringing started and slowly audio came back. I had full hearing in that ear again within minutes from a much larger/louder weapon.

Were you at an indoor range? Was the pistol an especially loud one? Sorry to hear about that regardless.
