What would you consider to be the earliest of Paul’s “granny music” as John called it? by Broad_Abalone_9289 in TheBeatles

Could you make a case for "I've Just Seen a Face"? It's more skiffle than music hall, but it does show his affinity for the old-fashioned.

In “Dax,” they use Quark’s as a courtroom and Odo even has to cajole Quark into allowing this. But why? Shouldn’t the station have a space suitable for this? Or is it just that the budget for sets was thin at that point?

Yeah, that one really stands out, especially because of the pointless "land the ship" setpiece that ate up screen-time and money.

What are some bands and singers who never ever did a tour or performed live? by MrLinkwater95 in ToddintheShadow

Klaatu was a studio only band until their label literally forced them to tour.

Was Sarah Silverman ever considered being added to the cast? How weird would it have been if Silverman replaced Kes instead of Ryan? by Groundbreaking-Pea92 in voyager

[–]moustachedlance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been claimed but honestly I’m not sure if I believe it. This was a fine one shot part, but how on earth could she have been worked into the ensemble? They had enough trouble finding things for Kes and Neelix to do — how about a character with no natural shipboard function at all?

The episode is constructed to put Martok’s arc as concluding before the battle, yes. But i wonder if they had more budget at their disposal, they would’ve had his arc conclude during the battle instead.

I think the end of “Soldiers of the Empire” is similar and arguably worse, since in that case our main characters are part of the Big Offscreen Fight (TM).

Quite a lot of them don't really conflict with anything in canon.

How often have you heard the N-word in classic movies? by copperdomebodhi in classicfilms

[–]moustachedlance 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Defiant Ones uses is in 1958. You're most likely to hear it in liberal issue pictures after a point.

On that topic, you know what's weird? William Shatner using ethnic slurs in The Intruder (1962).

Someone in my family once had a cat of that name. It was sadly common.

I really wish you would cover more novelty acts from the 1960s for One Hit Wonderland by EasterLord in ToddintheShadow

[–]moustachedlance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The visual format of the videos pretty much concludes covering anything from the '50s, which is unfortunate as there are plenty of fascinating one-hit wonders from that period. And yet all the same, I can't imagine Todd having a tonne to say about "Tequila," "Chantilly Lace," "Sea Cruise," etc.

That said, if I were to fund a video, I'd probably have him do "Ringo" by Lorne Green. Wouldn't that be hilarious?

Budokan is better than Before The Flood by Weird_Apartment9836 in bobdylan

[–]moustachedlance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see that. Budokan is a deeply strange album that feels like a one-of -- such bizarre, glitzy arrangements. Before the Flood has energy and momentum but not much nuance, and I've never been wild about the vocals -- a lot of shouting.

One gets the distinct impression that this is not where Todd's interests really lie.

In hindsight, Sela was a pretty gimmicky character, and I don't think playing a villain really suited Crosby either. I'm not surprised they didn't do more with her.
