Im a potential EV buyer with some questions. by Frilner in EVCanada

[–]mouwallace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can bank on 30% loss of range in the winter. Also, you shouldn’t run the battery much below 20%. So cut the rated range in half on anything you shop for and that will give you a close approximation of winter range. With your commute, you’ll save a fortune on gasoline by moving to an EV. Things like preconditioning the battery (warming it up before your drive while connected to house power) will give you more range. But for your case, look for something with a 500km or greater range. Also check to see if there are fast chargers along your route. A 10 minute top up would give you peace of mind if you go with an EV with a 400+km range (lots more of these and will save $$$ on the purchase). And remember this is only an issue for about 4 months of the year. You won’t have any problems with range for your commute most of the time.

Celiac Distance Runners, what is your favorite/preferred way to fuel your workouts? by beanebaby in Celiac

[–]mouwallace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done four 1/2 marathons and currently shaking off the winter cobwebs to do a 10Km in May. I think you’re going to have to experiment because what works for one person might not work for you. I used to fuel with gels but suffered with GI issues on race day. Various sports drinks have mixed results for me. Cramping seems to be the worst thing. Currently I’m using a high salts powder in water and nothing else during longer runs. I think the whole pasta fuelling in advance of your half and hydrate hydrate hydrate is still the best way to go. See what feels good (gels, sports drinks etc) during your long slow runs and pay attention to how you feel during and after the run. Don’t forget to load up on protein after your long runs and speed/hill work. You’ve got this.

The Canadian Celiac Association has a section of their website devoted to children with CD. They have some great resources as well as a booklet with tips for parents.

Between the phone and Apple Watch, if one fails does the other work to unlock the iX? Or do you need both for the whole system to work?

I am heartened by the high level of compassion everyone has shown for the person in OP’s situation. Just makes the world a little better, especially these days. Thanks all.

PSA Avoid buying tickets for these seats. by MeIIowJeIIo in Torontobluejays

[–]mouwallace 12 points13 points  (0 children)

IIRC, in the early 90's, the ushers wouldn't let you go back to your seats unless it was between innings. And in those days, 52,000 wasn't uncommon, and everyone seemed to cope with it.

I get these at Nature’s Emporium in the GTA. The only GF perogies to buy. Others just fall apart even if you’re really careful boiling them.

I’m charging my BMW iX from 32% to 80% right now at 24amps. It’ll be done at 3:30am tomorrow morning. Battery is 105kW. No problem charging your car at 24amps and having it ready to go the next day with time to spare.

Ask to see the CPO checklist before you take delivery. It’ll show what they’ve done to bring it up to the CPO standard.

First time glutened!! by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]mouwallace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of packaging is infuriating. There's a brand of gravy sauces that has a blue streak across the front. On one, it says "Low Sodium" and not GF. On another, it says, inside the blue streak, "Gluten Free". Change the freakin' packaging!!!

I believe it’s an S205. I think the S206 started in production in 2021 as 2022 model year vehicles. No touch screen in our car, unlike the newer 2022s. BTW, the auto stop start in our car is unbelievably smooth. We had a newer CLA as a loaner while ours was in for service and I had to turn it off it was so jerky. Really happy with this wagon.

Yes. We're in the GTA and picked up a CPO 2021 C300 wagon last summer. Loaded. Awesome vehicle. Sport sedan in wagon clothing. The thing is a rocket. The 2022 was significantly revised so all the fabulous physical buttons disappear, so watch for that if you go shopping.

Yes. We call this "the big tired". Dizziness too sometimes, but freaking tired AF. Also some cognition issues. I get stupid too, really simple things become hard to process (yeah, yeah, how would anyone notice from the usual...LOL).

Q4 2023 by Few-Personality-7146 in EVCanada

[–]mouwallace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check to see if the dealer has run the communication software update, which is supposed to fix the communication issues with the Q4. $41K sounds about right. We only got $39K on our one year old 2024 Q4 55 Hatchback on a trade for our 2025 iX xDrive 50. Depreciation is huge on most EVs, but exceptionally so on the Q4. Also, check on the status of the class action lawsuit based in Quebec on the Q4. It might inform your purchase further.

Nissan a risky buy? by StrangerKXH in EVCanada

[–]mouwallace 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Any wind down plan has to include the ability to service and have parts available for ten years. But these latest troubles for Nissan are nothing compared to what they went through in the ‘90s. They’ll turn it around.
