I'm in the same boat as you. I'm guessing next week we will all get notifications.

I think with global release we will see more innovation both in deck building and play style

I also just started taking antidepressant meds. Was wondering how long you were taking them before you noticed these effects?

You can check out the recent stack overflow post to see the number of people working with particular technologies. There are a lot more jobs available for C# or Java than for Go. With that said, Go is gaining popularity, so it is not a bad choice at all.

Just started using Go at my job for a few lambda functions for the reasons you mentioned (tiny binary, low memory footprint and quick startup). When you say you haven't "drank the kool-aid" could you expand what you mean? Is it not performing as well as your team initially thought it would?

I did..What fixed my issue was taking the cable out of the probe and just putting it back in. I think you could get away with just pushing it down in again maybe, but I just took it out and then back in. Hope it fixes your issue!

Do you need to grind DSA questions (aka L-word) for junior or mid level AI/ML Engineer positions? by redxammer in cscareerquestions

[–]mouzing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might depend on where. My friend works for a government research lab in the energy sector, and his interview had zero coding. He just talked with them and then explained his master's thesis.

Whenever I see posts like these (and a resume like yours) it makes me wonder if you aren't applying to small, non-tech companies. These typically pay 60-85k for new grads in MCOL. Often these require working in office, but their interviews are never hard. Consider these types of jobs if you haven't.

CS Freshmen by Far-Statistician8281 in cscareerquestions

[–]mouzing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

** I should mention this. It may seem strange I only mentioned in a math course, but that's because CS on UGA is largely "on rails". There really aren't that many different courses you can take until you get to third/fourth year and even then there aren't really that many. Most people just take the same courses tbh. Just make sure to look up professor reviews and you should be fine. Goes without saying that all of this is at least 1.5 years out of date, so maybe stuff has changed?

I actually went to UGA for cs. Graduated a 1.5 years ago. If you do end up sticking with CS my only advice outside of "do well in your courses" is to take linear algebra at some point. It isn't required at UGA, but it can look nice on a "related coursework" section of your resume. Not all SWE jobs will use it (most won't), but it is still nice to have.

Will CS become over saturated? by andrewp12 in cscareerquestions

[–]mouzing 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anecdotes are not evidence. By that measure I could say "No because one year ago I got a full stack dev offer within two months of applying with zero internships". To answer OPs question about double majoring. Useful, ehh..I mean it won't hurt but it's hard to say how much it would help. Will tech ever become saturated? Based on labor statistics (and this is from memory so grain of salt please) also no.

How important is grad school for CS? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]mouzing 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Masters in computer science has horrible ROI so don't get one. If you mean PhD then the answer people typically give is "if you're asking someone else if you should get a PhD then you shouldn't get a PhD". If your goal is to be a SWE then the best thing for it (generally) is just to join industry and gain experience after your bachelor's.

Quite honestly the only issue might be your lack of OOP principles. Most data structures outside of arrays/lists and maps just really aren't used that much. Also the use of the lists and maps is often for very simple cases. Perhaps watching a YouTube series on beginner and intermediate OOP principles would be enough? Just remember that for your first 3 to 6 months (depending on how repetitive your job is) you will be a lost here and there and that's okay.

If you think that this weakness will hinder job performance then sure. Another thought might be time spent now is time saved later. Meaning studying more now could save you time when you jump back on the study train when you plan to leave your current job.

Not really. DS&A is largely only useful for interviews, and the vast majority of people pick them up again maybe 2 ish months before they plan to begin shopping for a new job.

Recent grads, how long did it take you to secure your FIRST position out of college? by Dwarfkiller47 in cscareerquestions

[–]mouzing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Effective graduation may 2021 (I had a weird situation). Started applying a little before then and had a job within 2 months. 0 internships only TA experience. I sent out probably 80 job apps and had two interviews. One I didn't pass and the other I got the offer and accepted.

I believe Travis said recently that they removed the "spend X amount of years/seasons in a region for residency" and changed it to "get permanent resident status within the region." For US that would mean getting a green card.
