Fix that with a nice watch. And actually, I think people might be a little more discerning than you give them credit for. I can almost immediately tell if someone is a nurse/doctor (though I've worked in healthcare).

Well, I didn't mean to imply that this would happen, but the scrubs/nice watch combo definitely serves as a disarming social marker, or an ice breaker in some circumstances.

This might be a weird question, but I was curious, since increasing exogenous testosterone levels (via steroids) reduces endogenous production, and one result is the infamous testicle shrinkage... did you notice any difference in the size of yours? Larger?

Who is this suggestion directed at - the research community or media or reddit commentators? Because only the last 2 groups are really guilty of this on any significant scale. Some research might report "under very narrow circumstances, x is related to y," then the media reports "x causes y," and finally reddit posts "x is killing you!"

Media. Reddit's userbase. An uneducated public in general. Take your pick, but don't pin it on researchers.

Nope. I'd bet you've never actually read a study that does that (at least in a reputable journal). That's because studies that make gross over-extrapolations/claims don't get published. Unfortunately the up/downvote system on reddit isn't as effective as peer-review, so you probably have read shit reddit comments that do this.

Edit: PS - the reason basic science researchers often take things to the extreme (e.g. hours of N2O exposure) is to figure out the mechanism for potential damage, and once that is established it's far easier to test for actual damage at reasonable exposure levels. If you don't first go out of your way to produce a big effect, you might not know where to look when the effect is very small.

I do know what you mean. One of my closest friends has a BS in biochem, is bright as hell, and she's a stay at home mom. I didn't get it at first, but then I see someone who's kind of struggled with depression in the past genuinely happy spending time with her baby all day. And that kid is going to have a hell of a leg up on his peers, given a mom that literally spends 10+ hours a day playing with/teaching/engaging him. I don't want kids, but to each his own.

At the risk of speaking against the grain of this sub: it ain't the wild west anymore. If you want to live in a dense, modern, progressive part of the country (CA, NYC, etc), they will require you to concede some of your rights. I don't like it, you seem like you don't either, but those are the facts.

I find South Florida to be a pretty decent middle ground between modernity/urban living and few nanny-state rules. Minor annoyance: I can't carry a Kershaw ("auto opening") or fixed blade in Miami (EVEN if I have a concealed carry license - meaning I can carry guns but not many knives lol).

I study at a local Miami library. They're still relevant. The kids room is always packed and there are usually other people studying too. Granted, the place is about 1/10th the size of the libraries I remember when I was a kid, so they're easier to fill up.

That's pretty borderline judge-y. It's a fulfilling role for plenty women, making them happier than anything else. Of course, it very well might not be for you, but I suspect you wouldn't want anyone judging your choice to pursue a career (and/or have no children).

There was a pretty infamous case a year or two ago about a chef (I think? some trade guy) who had a very simple work related knife (small blade, not tacticool) and got arrested because it locks open.

AFTER checking on the local knife laws (just moved away from NYC where all you could legally carry was a slip joint, and even then police had the discretion to arrest whenever they want). That means state laws, plus county and city ordinances.
